  1. anybody got a good copy for sale? i.e not off center, prefer to pay small profit to somebody, and not take the chance on an off center copy.. was the same on those Florescent smogg 45's, only bought the LP for the 45, and its reversed labels... Mal
  2. I like this, obviously by the semi original group, but if you like interpretations of Curtis mayfields work try 'the carter baron' by Oddisee, fabulous track.... I'll be picking this up as soon as the shops open Monday... Mal.c
  3. Just yesterday left something on the thread for Mary Love, so this really does come as a shock. I'm obviously not alone, but Ive been a Bobby Bland fan from the very start of my love for Soul Music, ever since a mates mum sold me the 'Piece of Gold' LP as school. My only regret has been that the one occasion he came over to play at then Albert Hall, with Van Morrison, I didn't make the effort to see him live. He will be sorely missed by all, but personally his music has been such a constant in my life... Lades and Gentlemen, here's the man! I mean the man! The Sensational, The Incomparable, The Dynamic... Bobby, 'Bobby' Bland !!! Rest in Peace Bobby... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhiOzqISD-w
  4. Really Sad news, her singing 'baby I'll come' at the Kent records anniversary will stay with my wife and I for ever, a special day in our memory. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends... From two life long fans of her music. Malcolm & Liza Collins
  5. Will he be singing with a live band at any or all of above? Mal
  6. I just got mine from Amazon this morning, all of the above then!!! very enjoyable and its been really fun waiting for the release, what makes Northern soul fun, from a music point of view... Only down side, we have to wait a year for Vol 2.. well done Ady and all at Kent / Ace, a job well done... Ps question, the Gamblers Blues track, Tim Brown gave a strange comment when he auctioned an Acetate of this track late last year, he mentioned it was highly unlikely that the track would ever be released due to legal wrangling, I have no idea what that actually relates to, but its obviously its not the case, but his recent Tim Brown speaks column mentions a deal he did with the source, which did not include that track?? what that all about Mal.C

Found a scan of the Midnight Johnny Acetate, I assume the unreleased version Pete mentioned..

when would you say that got released? M
  9. Mal C commented on Pete S's article in Source Archives
when I bought it, somebody dated it to early seventies, as the logo its on wasn't in use in 64, so it couldn't have been re issued a month later... I'll scan it and you can make your minds up, I've had this track twice, but never on this Logo, so think it's a pretty rare thing.

Midnight Johnny got a later release, or re release on Gordy, same cat release number but deffo a decade or so later, I'll scan it and post up. M
  11. I started a thread some months ago on tunes I'd missed, no longer being a regular at the 100 club, so these are it!!!! Wondered whether the 3. Gamblers Blues - Nancy Wilcox is the same as that acetate Tim brown auctioned some months ago, his comment on that disc was something along the lines of its unlikely to ever be issued or licenced, for one reason or another... Mal
  12. One of the singles is interesting, somebody said Unissued, or unreleased? Well, this did come out in fast and slow versions, the later on Ru Jac from Baltimore, so is this a third recording of this song by Winfield, or was the Fast version always an unreleased one? Winfield Parker - I Love You Just The Same Mal.C

He was true great wasn't he. His Time Peace album is pretty much been played every day in our house, such is our love for the songs, especially his version of 'Theme from Spartacus'. I count myself lucky to have seen him live on that tour, and his presence in this World will be certainly missed. RIP Terry Callier Mal.C.
  17. is that the techno side, of course your right, the lesser of the two, I bought my copy when it came out for £2.99 from HMV in Brum, my golly music as good as this for literally pennies.. i'm surprised this did not make the above anni release, or did it? Mal
  18. I used to licence allot of images to acid jazz for some of their later releases, anyhow I 'd made a call the one day and the receptionist answers the phone, and guess what he name was? Ann Sexton, and she had no idea why I nearly fell of my seat... I've often thought somebody must have taken her on, but maybe never told her......??? laughs favourite track by a country mile, the utterly Brilliant: Earthy Powers - by Man Called Adam, what a record.... Mal.C
  19. just watched some of this, it aint half bad.... but what the hell is Phil Jupitus wearing btw? if I'd have done it I'd have gone to a decent nighter and interviewed people there, and outside the venue, then cut the relevant 'History' in.. make sure the presenter is seen having a drink, and in the receipt of some nice records, then at least well know he made an effort...
  20. I think the inclusion of Phill Jupitus says it all, that said I haven't yet seen it, and I have to say I can listen to Robert Elms any time of the day.. I think the thing with these shows is the format they insist on sticking to, ok its its an archive heavy factual programme made from a diminishing pool of original content, which can only generally be illustrated with a splattering of talking heads, but if you want to see how well a programme of this genre can be made, look no further that Flame TV's ' Pump up the Volume' commissioned by channel four back in 2001/2, without doubt the best series on a scene I've seen. I think something along the lines of actually following some people to a nighter, with the history running parallel says allot more the viewer, there are tons of ways you can tell the story make it allot more engaging. You can pretty much guarantee they didn't bother thinking about that, and stuck to the same old..
  21. I listen to the Richard Searling interview with Frank all the time, and in a way its kind of lead me to know him, obviously I don't and have never met him, but I'm really shocked by this news. Indeed an absolute legend in the history of Pop Music, all my condolences to his family and friends. Malcolm
  22. I licensed allot of News Int content into this, Headlines, pages from the stable of newspapers that kind of thing. Looks to be a really good doco, there was allot of praise for the director Kevin Macdonald.
