  1. This is one of those 'Just noticed' things. Tim Brown has a 45 for auction just now by 'Daniel Madison' called 'It Dont Matter baby' was checking it out on YT and noticed a really early 45 by the The Madison Brothers entitled 'Whats the Matter Baby'. They don't sound a like to me at all, but thats not to say its not one of the brothers with a re written lyrics on an old song? wonder if anybody recognises these, they look very obscure, was daniel part of the Madison Brothers? Tim's Auction Blurb : VERY obscure Macon, Georgia release from the totally unknown Daniel Madison revealing an excellent midtempo number. Flip it over to find ‘Funky Popcorn’ which has enough funk for Funk fans but enough buzz for Northern fans too. a bit tentative, but thats what this site is all about right...? joining the dots
  2. I have listend a few of these Eddie, they are very good...
  3. Cheers Ken, great article, I'll have to read it twice, but when I saw it I thought oh Christ, its that version of "It Ain't Necessarily So" agiain! I can rememeber listening to an old mod version of that standard aound a mates haouse in the eighties on tape he had, never been able to track it down, i though some years ago it was Miles Greyson... not on You tube so I cant confirm... with an organ in the background, and almost spoken vocal, as Ive said mod record, but very good track. that whole thing is a head fuck for me, that bloody record!! wish I could find it...! thanks for the article...
  4. Like those Rod, knew the one, not the other... I guess what Im asking for here is the more soulful side of Group Harmony or Doo Wop as allot call it. Not all of those records selected for the LP "Under the street lamp" were really early sixties, but the LP had a sound to it... as time has gone on we know more about these groups, but back then that LP was a revelation for allot of folks, I collected them all, but I still put the Lp on and listen through... SS did a few more CD's in the 9ts as well, with stuff like 'The Executive Four - You Are' Lumar, 'The Limelights - You Don't Love Me Anymore' Uncle ,The Appreciations - No No No' Aware and so on... I got a copy of 'The Ambassadors – Too Young For Me' on Fleet not long ago, a serious bit of Group Harmony that... thats the stuff Im looking for...
  5. I addition to this, has anybody got some good tracks suggestions? along the lines of the Caersars, the true tones, Ambers, Steelers, Classics... Im mad on this again this week, such a cool track Mal
  6. Hi foilks, wonder if anybody has any recorded radio shows that played all thet great early group Harmony stuff? remember there being mention of 'Hy Lit, WSNI' cassets on a certain Lp you will all know that came out on Soul Supply in the 8ts, I'd love to track some down. So this is original early sixties shows not selections put together on Mixcloud in recent times... Do these things exist? Mal
  7. I think that article started well, it peaked my interest, but the selection on Spotify was slightly at odds with the labels and tracks they were talking about. If your gonna push the brilliance of John and Wierdist and Executive Four you dont start your play list with PP Arnold and finish with the snake...
  8. He's a big soul fan Ewen, used to chat to him in the Brighton Uni dark rooms about soul music and photography...he's a very good photographer...
  9. I'm sorry, that Helena Furguson is absolutely awful. had the singer heard the original before they recorded it?

  12. About 300 or so in a card sleeve, more with a slip sleeve…
  13. dont auction set sale items simple... as for the rest the only one that I used to hate was a closed auction, but then sometimes if you are buying from outside the collectrs scene, those auctions can be a tad different...
  14. Here you go, I added an LP shelf to the right, then another left facing on the other alcove, if you get my meaning...and there was enough room to get an LP across the lot on the bottom, out of shot...
  15. Ive used the 'Billy' they had em in yellow a few years back, which looked cool... remmeber to geta few extra shelves pieces though as rthey only supply 4/5, you will need more if you want ceiling to floor.
  16. Noticed that, thought Larry Wright was cheap really given the silly money folks pay for some common records… but things like Contenders (Edge), still out there for what forty quid…
  17. Cant add another version Lee, but the Thee Midniters seem to have had a bash at every other song as far as I can see, was it on Whittier Records?
  18. Rememeber the 'Dream Team' 45s on Gregory that was played, and everybody got very excited about, then then a load turned up, and some folks got stung. I do wonder sometimes when things like this happen quickly, that there maybe some copies out there poised to come onto the market... and that is not Judgement of the seller and dealer, I would not in a million years say something bad about folks I know of, but dont know personally. But this happens...
  19. Hi folks, anybody got this one, must be good condition, prefer a demo Ruby Johnson - When My Love Comes Down / Volt mal
  20. these were from a place in Toronto I went to, they had multiple Motown releases in 25 count boxes, all original...bought a couple boxes, which I left as is, its a shame to split them up really..
