  1. Rodger, Thanks for seeing my lad the other night. He'll never get near collecting them all, but I bet he has a bloody good try. We can read all we want about Whitby and the bad side of the scene, but your kindness, and willingness to put yourself out as you did on Wednesday night shows just what a brilliant scene we have. Guys like you, Dave Moore and Dave Fergie, who have GIVEN my lad records, CDs and kind advice, and the Rachels, Steve Cato's and the rest, who have driven him around, and looked after him in what can be an intimidating environment to newbies, have my full and total respect.

Why leave it to non -existant litigation. There will be no litigation unless KR can answer the questions about the extra wristbands. Maybe he found them on the grassy knoll?
  3. Pete, I've got hold of Joe. He will be in touch. Brian

Dave, Don't know if it my ISP (AOL) but when I click to play a record from the new record review I am directed to MSN search engine? Any advice? (All the other reviews play). Count me in for the mag as I am sacking Chatbusters which has gone unbelievably crap. Whats the best way to pay? Brian
  5. Qiute an aggressive reply to someone who was only trying to let us all know that OUR music was on a NATIONAL radio show?
  6. The Tops for me, just about, but at their peak the Tempts were amazing, particularly the David lead tracks. The Tempts DVD is brilliant and I also found it moving. I was just listening to the Tops and the Tempts last night, with a glass of Glenlivet, on a Bose music system and I said to my wife, "Does life get any better than this"? I often say to people, how did Berry Gordy do it? The Tops, Tempts, Miracles, Supremes, Stevie, Martha, Marvin, Tammi, Contours, Originals, and all the others, along with Norman Whitfield, Valerie, H-D-H, Funk Bros etc. etc. all at once on the same company, at the same time. We don't know how lucky we were and still are!!!!!!!! Dave Moore and Roger Williams. You are out and out Top Guys. Thanks. He is absolutely over the moon. He is like a kid at Christmas. Thanks again.
  7. Pete, I bump into Joe now and again. I'll try to get hold of him and get him to latch onto the website. ATB Brian B (Burnley)
  8. Re my response to Phil (Quinvy) I've just had a PM from a guy who might not want me to name him, but his avatar is a dodging cat, that has totally restored my faith in the scene. Dan, brilliant reply, Pete, brilliant reply Roger, Thanks.
  9. Phil, From your earlier post, why God help our scene because people want to own and listen to records they simply cannot afford so they buy CDs or boots? You say who is really passionate about our scene? My son is 25 and is totally passionate about the scene, the records and the people. He is also £13000 in debt following university. He wants to collect records. His birthday was yesterday and he got some money. He rang me last night saying he had £50 to buy some sounds and where can he get them from. Am I to tell this passionate kid, the future of the scene, NOT to go to E Bay, not to go to TBR? How did you start buying Phil? Boots, listening to illicit live recordings? My heart was almost breaking, what can he buy for £50?
  10. Mick the Fed, Burnley Mecca Sunday nights 69 - 71. A Rosko looka likey who played all the top Wheel sounds . What a guy.

It might be me, and probably is, but how the bloody hell do I play all these video clips that Pete and others have been posting from You tube and other places? I'm on broadband at work and dial up at home. Are the clips the same as those 2 DVDs that have been knocking about for the last couple of years? Thanks, Brian B

How did you get time off from the day job in Ibiza?
  13. Hi Steve, I was referring to an earlier reply that mentioned Richard and Russ calling a record Modern. They did not mean Modern then in the 70s, the way we mean "modern" as a descriptive term for a genre of music. ATB, Brian
  14. Never liked "Modern" Soul. Just can't see what it has to do with Northern Soul. However the context Richard and Russ put Modern into was the correct use of the word, meaning, I guess, recorded now, being played now. This is not the context we put Modern soul into nowadays. We mean not 60ts, not Motown, not R&B, not a floater, not a beat ballad, but Northern that doesn't fit into any of those categories.

Always loved this . First heard it on a tape someone did for me who went down the wheel. Finally got a copy in 76. Absolute class, as is I've Lost You. Having said that, Because of you takes some beating!
  16. Mark, She will be advised to sue the club, even though it may be your responsibility. If she sues you, with no insurance, she may get a couple of grand, that she has to go to court for, and you might pay that at a tenner a week. She sues the club through vicarious responsibility, ie, their club, their dance floor and they have public liability insurance, she gets £10k, paid in one lump sum, and probably never sees a court. They then put signs up saying careful, the floor may be slippy. Thye also ban talc, and all the other good things. Rest assured mate, you ain't gonna get sued!
  17. Pete, I envy you. Having known of a record, but not playing it or hearing it thinking it is something else.... Then 30 years later you hear and think wow!! Must be a unique situation for a record thats not the rarest in the world? I'm sure Carl Willingham used to play it, as well as Contract on Love? Always been a big fan of Stevie's 60s stuff. Saw him live in Manchester in 71. Believe it or not, I was disappointed as he had just hit the Wonderlove phase, and just did a brief medley of his 60s stuff, but what a voice. His version of I hear a Symphony is my favourite ever sound, and thats after 36 years on the northern scene.

Hey Mark, Don't forget me mate!
  19. Burnley has a Neptune Street and a Brunswick St. I once tried to nick the Neptune St sign before going down Wigan one night. I was stood on Fuse's shoulders trying to knock the sign down with a branch. Ended up with minor concussion.
  20. Mark my words. If some enterprising DJ has the balls to play Mr Magic Man by Wilson Pickett, I guarantee it will become a major floor filler. This is me who said Brazil would score 4 against Japan, and that Italy would beat Germany 2-0. Somebody play it. You'll be on a winner. Think it was on RCA?

Marsha Gee!!!! Wow, haven't heard this out in years.
  22. Wasn't there a great debate at one time as to whether This is Northern Soul Vol 3 on Grapevine was ever released? I know it was, cos I've got one, but there was some discussion on this a few years ago.
  23. Brilliant Paul!
  24. Derek, I've PMd you. Brian
  25. Derek, Sorry about this, but I knew a Click Duerden, does that help?
