What Other Music Floats Your Boat?
None! Tried over the years to listen to other forms of music, but every night without fail its at least an hour of Northern and Motown for me. The harder I try to listen to other music the less I like it.

Ever Changed Your Mind About A Record?
2 for me, 1 in the same circumstances, now on my DJ, heard it, now love it..... Salvation by Robert Thomas. The other is the Temptations Forever in My Heart. Hated it for years, heard it on holiday 5 years ago. Guess what, Temptations now my favourite group after the Hesitations. How could I have hated these 2 records for so long?

Whats Your Ns Claim To Fame ?
Holding Brenda Holloways hand whilst we sang Starting the Hurt All Over Again to each other when she sang live in Burnley a few years ago. Also met Tony MOrley (Leeds, Burnley, Villa) backstage at Wigan in the mid 70s.

What's Your Favourite Motown Compilation Lp?
The one with the blue cover, is it Volume 8. Anyway it has Its So Hard Being A Loser by the Contours on it. Saw it in Manchester a few weeks ago for £30 in poor condition. Love the Contours track. I have it on Gordy and English. What is it worth and does it get played? It was spun regularly at the Wheel.

Best Northern Compilation
Dayo, Once again I fully agree with you! Some cracking tracks but 2 or 3 ridiculous additions. Best ever compilation has to be any of the early Kent LPs that really hit the spot. Out on the Floor on Inferno also took some beating. (How come Gloria Jones Tainted Love never gets played just because some halfwit decides to make money out of the northern scene?)

Live In Concert
--> QUOTE(mark.b @ Jan 23 2006, 07:59 PM) link for the soul act it would have to be the temptations at manchester free trade hall mid 70's it was awesome my friend worked on the door so got in for nothing the did two shows a mattinee and an evening show how many groups would do that now. mark Mark, Saw the Tempts at the Free Trade Hall in 72. Was it the same tour? In the era of 69 to 72 I saw the following, all in Manchester! 4 Tops twice at the Odeon! Temps Carla Thomas Stevie Wonder in 71 Bill Withers at the CIS Jnr Walker Jimmy Ruffin Jimmy Helms prior to his hits Steinways in Nelson, thinking they were the Drifters! Plus all the usual at the Casino, Tommy Hunt, Jnr again, Betty Wright etc.etc. Who would I like to see most. Believe this or not, I never saw Diana and the Supremes. Would love to see them doing a Motown spot, without the schmaltzy show records. Awesome! Saw the Funk Bros at the Apollo in Mancland last year. Unforgettable!!!!

This Is The Best Dj Spot Ever
I was also there that night. Still got the badge and the tape. Can still remember driving there in a mini bus with the Burnley crew. Fuse is now no longer with us, Dewi is in Australia. Great times with some fantastic people. Only ever saw one fight inside, actually got it on tape! The place was buzzing. What a night, what a venue!

Influences
Paul, Do you remember getting up one Saturday morning and I was just about to play Whats Wrong With Me Baby by the Invitations on the Dyno Voice demo? You said is it new, I said I bought it last night. Your next question was is it the original and have you got the Drifter yet. You were eight years old, so you were into it sooner than you thought! Great to meet Steve and Reg on Saturday. Brilliant night, absolutely top class records all night.

Let's Hear It For The Drummer
Dayo, Great thread. I know you mentioned the Motown greats, Benny, Pistol etc, but what about the drumming on Only Your Love Can Save Me by the Marvelettes? Awesome. Digging Roy H out now for TPIC. Can't say I've noticed before.

Favourite Oldie
Just look back through this thread and think how lucky we are to have these records in our lives. Pity the people who have never heard them. We may fall out over the music, but how good is it?!!!!!!!

Requests For Tracks On Official Cds ?
Spoke on line to NR over the weekend. He has the leagle eagles snooping round him over this very issue. I agree, there is no right answer, but the lawyers only see the £ signs, not the ethical and moral issues.

Ghost In My House Played At Stoke - New Years Eve
Hope we have the same inquest next time a white artist's record is played at a northern soul night........ Might then start to call it No Soul Source? Massive in its day, underplayed now.

- Northern Version Of An Old Classic
Well Stuart, thats me sleeping soundly tonight knowing you don't revere anyone. Love to see you or FB standing at the bar next to Robert Knight at Soul Trip USA and not talking to him cos he's crap, or cos you don't revere anyone.- Northern Version Of An Old Classic
Why is Robert Knight "Crap"? Everlasting Love (copied by Love Affair) - massive at the Wheel Love on a Mountain Top - massive at the Torch Branded - massive at Wigan. He did Somewhere on his LP. Even that was good. You may not like his music, but I think Crap is out of order. We need to respect and revere "our" artists, not disrespect them.- Things You Never See
