  1. Robert Pruter doesn't know much more if anything more than what he wrote in his Chicago Soul book. He said he should have asked more questions about him during his interviews in writing the book.
  2. No, CD only. Shake Hands With A Dreamer (William Weatherspoon-James Dean-Stanley McMullen) published Jobete 15-Feb-67 Jimmy Ruffin; recorded Hitsville-GW, completed 24-Jan-67 ; produced by William Weatherspoon, James Dean 12-Jan-04; CD (M): Motown 981 2006 Jimmy Ruffin - The Ultimate Motown Collection [UK]
  3. Very little about him in it mate, just that he died sometime in the 70s, Shirley Wahls recorded his demos, Why Am I Crying being one such demo originally. She did such a good job they recorded it on her. 65000 it sold in Chicago alone according to Shirley. He gets a mention on three pages for his songwriting, that is about it.
  4. The Durand Jones Lp dropped this week, limited purple press, looks cool. 😎
  5. He died in the 70s, Was more a producer and songwriter than recording artist. He wrote Why Am I Crying for Shirley Wahls.
  6. Discogs isn't always right
  7. The Gloria is a boot taken from the Lp if I remember rightly
  8. I was there and still no wiser
  9. Really? Ady’s weekender? I’ve never heard of her let alone remember seeing her there Djing.
  10. Kings Hall isn’t full these days, most all-nighters struggle for numbers these days, the regular scene is about 3-400 strong tops, mainstram scene gets the numbers at weekenders but a regalar niter will definitely struggle. One off, you already have a divvy delight at Butlins. You have to see some of the videos and you try your best to disassociate yourself with the scene.
  11. And vice versa
  12. Forgive me for asking but who is DJ Honey?
  13. What and fill it wth divs? It already exists 7000 at butlins 🙄
  14. Do you have any echoes for sale
  15. After the above group he sang in a group with Sam and Candy Shuman, Candy and the Red Hots. Then Sam left to be in a group with his with his brothers in a goup called The Brothers Four. One of the brothers, Moses, left. They then recruited two others and then John Ellison. This was then the Soul Brothers Six. Moses came back briefly to make it The Soul Brothers Six Plus One until one of the brothers drafted and they became six.
  16. In John Ellison’s (auto)biography he talks of a mixed race group a white guy called Johnny DiTondo was forming, two white, two black. The two black being John Ellison and Houston Armstrong (drummer nicknamed Sam) they called themselves the Satan’s Four and were popular round Rochester apparently for a while. They practised in Johnny’s basement and Johnny’s father amanaged them on the road. Maybe this Johnny put something to vinyl once Soul Brothers Six hit big with Some Kinda Wonderful?
  17. That's Jesse James, pretty obvious really.

  21. Dean Anderson and Gez are joined for the Sound of Soul Radio Show on the 21st February 2019 by Coventry's Tim Fletcher. Coming from Coventry Tim has been around the Soul and Mod scene for more years than he would like to admit. An avid collector of black music Tim's tastes span across several genres including the ska, early reggae and rocksteady music of the original Mods and Rude boys of the days.
  22. The Soul Brothers Six had been around four years when they recorded their first disc. The one who apparently bailed must have done almost immediately so by the time they were recording they were six and had been for a while. I will check the autobiography of John Ellison to be sure. I seem to remember they were only 5 when he joined but will check. I still can't see any logic as to why they would record as Johnny & The Soul Brothers when they had already been a popular club act and were just starting to record. Unless it was released without their knowledge maybe? If indeed it was them. Will have a listen to sound files over the weekend.
  23. Jobete probably leased the song to Jesse, it makes the company money that wouldn’t otherwise be made Imguess. Many jobete songs on small labels as you well know.
