  1. I've just picked up A House On Fire - The Rise And Fall Of Philadelphia Soul. Not read it yet as astill reading a previous book but from the snippets I've read it looks a very good read. Chicago Soul by Robert Pruter is one of the best books you can buy.
  2. Your right about the Philips Intentions, the group along with Dennis included his brother Ronald, Brian Humble & Jack Valatti plus some others too as there are seven members in the photo. The Intensions on Moneytown included LJ Johnson, Venus Mayes and a Young Punkin' Maybe Boba can add more to this.
  3. ta mate
  4. I reckon it was in Rushden, Castaways where we met although we'd been in same venues prior to that of course but we didn't know each other really before then. I stopped at Gary and Floyds that night. Next few weeks, Lowton, Skeggy at end of month, Burnley later in month, doubt I'll make it there tonight. Quite a busy few weeks to be honest. See you soon hopefully mate!
  5. Can someone send me a good quality MP3 of Try A Little Harder. Ta very muchly
  6. It's not that easy to find either. Some turned up couple years back but haven't they all dried up and disappeared into collections? Have seen it all prices from £600 upwards but like I said doesn't turn up like it was.
  7. I thought it was about 300 to 350 nowadays depending on which one you bought? Like Mark says, used to be loads about at one time. Some prices coming down, some going up, swings and roundabouts
  8. Look forward to the interview. I've the last two shows to catch up with yet.
  9. thats what I said/meant Boba but looking at it it reads differently
  10. The cd used to be on his website for about $10. Will warn you it is shite....including the remade My Life.
  11. The flip to It's The Last Time Around is pretty good as well, One More Time.

was talking about this once and it was said that Rock Candy had only the one side recorded and nothing for the t'other side. So the Contemplations was stuck on the t'other side and the name changes so that they had two sides.
  13. Intensions on The Uptite/Uptown/Kent different group to the Moneytown/Bleu Light/USA group. The flip Just Can't Win is a version of the Mandells I Just Can't Win, diffrent backing though. Think the backing to the Mandells is used about 4 times, on The Intensions I Love You on Blue Light for one.
  14. True gent, time for anyone and everyone, well most great taste in records and knew just what the floor wanted.
  15. you'll get the hang of it soon enough Kimbo. Hope Lisa and your good self keeping well. Hope to see you soon.

I didn't say you should ignore popsike or e-bay Rod. I said they aren't always the best indicator of current prices...there's a slight difference there in what I said and what you are saying I said! Too often I see the popsike prices given as the price for records and many times they are way off the current valuation, some use popsike as a bible for prices. Now if a record has sold for £150 and others also willing to pay the price, only a month ago then that is a better indicator of the price to me than a popsike valuation from March 2006 ($208) and £115 December 2006 (the two ebay sales popsike lists).

i've seen other copies for three figures as well in recent times. They didn't appear to be around for long either. I agree it is flavour of the month but isn't it the case with plenty of records that are indemand, the price goes up and some more than willing to pay that price.
  19. There was a good account given once aboujt this scrap on maybe the old Soul Talk/Soul Source e-mail list or over on the RSF. Sure it was said someone came up from behind ther record sales table, from under the table and stuck the nut on this Wigan player? Made me laugh when I read it. Could have been Ady who wrote about it
  20. I blame alcohol, especially with the all night licenses now and late bars. One time you never saw alcohol at a nighter. There's always been trouble between soulies but thankfully by and large it is kept away from the vernues. There's plenty of trouble lots don't see or hear about that hapopens behind the scenes.

not so long ago it probably was, remember passing on one not so long ago for around that price and again bit later at £75 in favour of other records. Been a couple recently. Listed one on here few weeks ago for Andy D for £150, it went.
  22. Righteous Brothers - Souled Out
  23. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in Record Wants
doubt you will get it cheaper than a ton, more like £150 now. popsike and ebay not always the best indicator of the value of a record.
  24. was a top ten hit in the states. On US Congress.
  25. I've a feeling both tracks on the PC are the same with one incorrectly named
