  1. Can any conclusions be drawn from the fact that the Doris Willingham US release on Jay Boy was distributed by London Records in the US ?
  2. Anybody help a poor soul ? Still looking ....
  3. Still looking folks - can't be that difficult can it ?
  4. Would any kind soul out there like to fix me up with a nice copy please ? Would prefer that you quote a straight price ... rather than a "make me an offer" ... Thanks !
  5. Funny that ... someone with a very similar name to Dean Johnson is now going to be spinning it in Perth Western Australia !!!!
  6. The copy just finished on ebay has gone to Perth, Western Australia
  7. Did any of you see that US movie "Shag" from the 90s and how badly it portrayed the Beach Music scene ???
  8. I don't think nearly enough credit has ever been given to all those white LA producers, arrangers, writers from the early 70s like Michael Omartian, Steve Barri, Dennis Lambert & Brian Potter and the great work they did with soul acts like The Four Tops, Tavares and host of others as well as Bobby Bland.
  9. Has some nice person out there got one that they would like to part with ? Also I would prefer not to be asked to "make an offer " ... please just let me know what you want for it ... Many thanks
  10. Anyone have one of those white label jobs or any other vinyl issue of it on a seven ?
  11. And what about those giants of soul music , The Who , getting into the RnB chart with "My Generation" !!!
  12. One would think 289 quid for Tony Troutman is reasonably cheap , yeah ?
  13. Larrry Saunders on black Capitol - on what planet was that issued ?!
  14. Copy sold in last few days on ebay for $415 US 70s Soul 45 ARISTOCRATS Let's Get Together Now WARNER BRO...
  15. John, Surely Otis Clay's "The Only Way Is Up" LP was released, promoted and marketed in the early 80's in the US & Japan as a new, contemporary release even though certain tracks had previously been released on other labels several years earlier ... while the Sandra Wright LP was very obviously a compilation originating in the UK on Demon Records of previously released and newly discovered material , and it was clearly marketed as such , wasn't it ? Not that any of that matters as far as the musical quality is concerned ... they are both great LPs of course !!! In fact, and I've said it before on here several times, the only way to play out Otis Clay's "The Only Way Is Up" is off the said original LP because the sound quality is so unbelievably good, loud and clear, and it doesn't have the nasty hiss and jump at the start which most the 45's seem to have. And YES... it is absolutely OK to play the original LP ahead of the original 45 ... even at an OVO event !!!
  16. Bob , on the Chicago Steppers scene, is there much of a focus on collecting original vinyl ? Do the events consist of DJs playing vinyl or do they have pre-programmed music on the sound system ?
  17. 100% correct Jocko - the longer sets will always sort out the ten bob DJ's (and also the ebay cheque book DJs) from the real DJs who not only have the depth and breadth in their record collections, but also the knowledge and ability to work a crowd.
  18. Only ever seen this as a 12" . Does it exist as a 7" ? If so , has any kind person got one to sell ?!!! Thanks !!!
  19. The market around the world for soul and funk LPs from the 6Ts through to the mid 80's is as strong as it ever was, especially younger collectors in their twenties and thirties outside of the UK who are discovering the great wide world of soul with an open miind. You're of course talking about the strange and very closeted world of northern soul and probably the same 10 or so LPs that get mentioned every time LPs and northern soul are mentioned in the same breath ie Metros, Hesitations, Tempests, Exciters etc.
  20. The track "More Love ..." also appeared on an original various artist gospel LP that Checker issued in the US in '67 ... I have the LP filed away here somewhere ... We've had a few threads on here with this theme but there really are a number of great tracks just perfect for the Northern scene on many of the Chess gospel series of releases (with full instrumentation too - not just piano bass and drums) like the now well known "Since I've Been Born Again" by Martha Bass.
  21. Sorry Ted that's what I meant to say !!!
  22. https://www.popsike.com/Bobby-Kline-on-MB-records-1001/110823289563.html Some interesting comments made by this ebay seller regarding the processes at the pressing plant where this record was made and possibly expalining why the labels are sometimes found to be reversed ...
  23. Is Sam publicly contactable ?!
  24. Thanks but I'm after the original vinyl 7" on Arpco.
