Going to Kestrel Rooms this month to make my first pilgrimage to that special place to see what all the fuss is about. I'll wear a blue carnation so you can spot me and say hello if you are going.

Peggy March .. Ns .... No Way
Never lost the respect for the old guard from the pre-Wigan era. Sceneman posted on the "Your first exposure to NS" thread on 27 February about him going to the Scene Club in London in 1963 and seeing British RnB bands live there.......right where it all started. It seems that some people who came later than Wigan have a real chip on their shoulder and can't resist sticking the boot in. You don't see the "gay gordons / happy clappers / norman soul trousers / WC boys" slagging off their predecessors or their music. It was a fashion/club/dance culture first and foremost and not an anorak/internet troll fraternity......no wonder some people prefer to live in the past.

The reference to the attendance was meant to be in response to the original post seeking info from promoters to help guage what's on offer at their events and how successful in terms of numbers they have been. Totally agree that you don't have to have a full house to have a good time.

Should Fill The Floor
Speaking as a 50+ punter, I have to pace myself when I'm dancing and just 'cos I don't dance to a record doesn't mean I don't know or don't like it...its usually because I'm taking a break to get my breath back. Went to an event recently when the DJ got a bit knarked 'cos a couple of great records were met with apparent disinterest by the floor but afterwards, I heard the group next to me comment on how good his set was, they were just too busy catching up with each other and having a jar to get off their bums at that particular time.

I only started using the site for event information and like most people, I would have thought, I want to see what's on nationwide and the new version allows me to do that just fine. If I want to look up a particular event its easy enough to just go on that type of event, e.g. upcoming / allnighters" and narrow down the search.....isn't it?

Just a thought on this, without entering the debate on the lay out of the SC website, what if the promoters quote the attendance numbers from their last event in each new post? Some may submit bogus figures I know but, armed with that information and a look at the DJ sets in the "events : playlists" section would give you a better idea of what to expect or what went on at a particular event?

The Thinking Man's Oldies (Episode Five) It's A Monster
Never say never. Hate it when" DJ's talk too much anyway. By the way, just seen "come on and live" on a play list from 100 club this month, talk of the devil!

Still got to get round to listening to number 4 yet !!!!!!!!!! (on mobile broad band at the minute). Fabulous jades - come on and live, (Rika ?) can't remember hearing that out since BITD, still got a pressing somewhere, slight split but still plays...(should I be embarrassed to admit that?) Great stuff thanks again for sharing.

Paul Anka... Cant Help Loving You
Definition of the underground soul snob....."Nobby Zerdovitt" ................someone who pooh-pooh's the bedrock tunes that set the basis of the whole "scene" , slags off anyone who likes retro fashions and simply goes to soul nights for a good night out and to dance to the high tempo dance music of his choice ................and yet raves about stuff of the likes of Mike & Ray's - if only you knew and The Sandpipers - lonely too long.........now that's 60's pop music that really should stay underground!!!! (no offence to the guys who unearthed those tracks, just my opinion as a punter)

Talcum Powder
You don't "need" talk to dance if the floor's good and I agree I don't remember seeing it on the floor at WC. I'm a shuffler (that's feet not fingers) and I danced front, back middle and sides of the floor downstairs anywhere there was enough space really. But when the floor's sticky, a little talc makes it easier to dance the way I do. Went to the Ritz dayer last September and the floor was almost impossible to dance on in places, uneven boards and proper sticky 'cos of all the ale that got spilled on it at a previous live band event. I would have struggled even more without the talc. Real shame as I was expecting that fantastic raised floor of old which was one of the best I'd ever had the pleasure to bounce on but the building's interior has been totally rearranged and that old floor has sadly gone for good. Good luck to all you top dancer's who don't need it, got to go now 'cos I'm off out dancin' so...........who's got the talc?
