The rise of the 'NEW' soulie and the soul revolution.
Seen plenty of lads in the 'old days' necking their gear before going into my favourite basement nighter and then hitting the bar hard for the short time it was still serving beer ... and then complaining bitterly after the rapid intake of 4 or five pints that their gear was rubbish ... they never did learn bless them ...

The rise of the 'NEW' soulie and the soul revolution.
Been biting my tongue too long ... Peggy March is as bad a pop tune today as it was when I first heard it 37 years ago , thought it was shite then and think it's shite now ... sorry if that offends the old-timers but it's just my opinion ... glad I started my journey "on the scene" just as the backlash against this purile lazy pop drivel started and the 'new guard' started digging a bit deeper for the real thing ...

Or the new stampers used for the 'reissue' were also done by Artisan which would be logical. What we need are nice clean images of the deadwax details of the Trans-American and Trans pressings to see if they were both from the same plates or two different masters. No doubt they were from the original master-tape but whether labels kept all the old stampers in an archive is another question , as they are pretty delicate and wear out quite quickly I'd guess that they were binned after use and new ones cut as required ... especially some 8 years later as with this 45 ... ?

Michel is his given name I think . The "Trans" pressings from '75 also have the Artisan stamp , leastways mine has it leading to me believing it to be a legit 45 , but have been told umpteen times by umpteen 'experts' over the 30-odd years I've had it that it's a boot pressed up for the scene by the label owner at the request of the light-fingered one ... so it's a bit of a grey area still in my mind ...

Guess I need to learn to type with more than one finger ...

It is not a snare drum and sticks it just looks that way , ( it's just the "A" of Artisan and a record ) , and it is NOT the mark of the pressing plant , it is the mark of the mastering company Artisan ( as stated earlier by Karl ) and the stamp is their company logo ... The "Trans" copies are boots/unofficial pressings.

W/D booted.- If the term northern soul had not come about ?
Sorry to rain on your parade but that poster is advertising a gig in Aylesbury , Bucks ... i.e. down South , by a band from Oldham ... i.e Oop North , a band who predominantly perfomed cover versions of soul tunes , only natural for them to be billed as a "Northern Soul and Action Group". Had the typesetter not given the word 'northern' a capital letter it would be be easier read as intended , in other words "a top Soul and Action Group from the north" ...- Information wanted please
It's a 'James' someone if that's any help ... ?- my Northern Soul Moan
That's got to be the most beautifully crafted post I've had the good fortune to read here on Soul Source , thank you Tim ...- my Northern Soul Moan
And it's such a giveaway regarding the punter's history , it's always the 'returnees' that use Johnson's , as they have a cupboard full of it after dragging up their fistful of ugly brats , they don't even know that plain unstinky talc exists ...- my Northern Soul Moan
Always loved those types that wander onto the floor , squirt half a bottle of that godawful stinky Johnson's Baby Powder on the floor then promptly wander off to the bar ....- my Northern Soul Moan
Let's be honest , at most of the Mickey Mouse oldies nostalgia nights that blight the calendar these days you can regularly see twenty people on the floor looking as though they are all listening/dancing to twenty different tunes , most concentrating hard to remember the Norvern Soul steps that they saw on YT the night before , regardless of the actual tempo , very few seem to actually be 'feeling' the tune or reacting in anyway emotionally towards it ... thankfully I avoid these nights nowadays and stick to the proper nighters that feed my needs , i.e. something that makes my ears prick up and start asking " what was that that was just spun ... ?" - Cecil Washington - Prophonics
