  2. this is a re-post By Chris Rizik, soultracks.
  3. coincidence... i was just cleaning up some filles. There was a rumpus about who "owned the band name" on this single; Joe Vargo ( who dis-associated himself from the band) or Jimmy Mann. It didn't get past a court injuction (raised by Joe Vargo).

yes, i agree Kev...but what does that say about the England players as a squad. Because the same England players seem to be able to do it at club level., although they have other nationality players a round them, perhaps who can take care of the ball ! ( and Spain were no better than many Premiership Clubs)

irrespective of the trial of Southgate...in the final against Spain we (the Engalnd players) just didn't look after the ball. If we had it would have been a different outcome.
  6. Sod the eulogy…let’s hope those that follow don’t F’ it up 😉

yeah, like this...my point was about the possible 'original owner'.

Gil, bought one label from H & H Productions (see the early Paris Tower labels around label image edge). Gil also bought 4 labels from Charles Fuller ( productions) that at the time (June 1968) who had 30 artists/bands recording under them. Hence many releases. Although Gil went on to be a force across the labels ( and Paris Tower came under Gil Enterprises) i was never certain he originally owned it, and that it was one of the labels he bought from Fuller. Gil recorded some of the stuff ( he had a 'desk' at the studio) at H &H productions which was run by Charles Harder & Phil Kempin, although Charles Harder's dad was a partner (silent), hence H & H. Gil was essentially a promo man, he'd started Flori-Promotions with Bob Barnes, and an 'unknown' in New York (early '68) to 'package' artists ( photo's, cut records, etc) but had big ambitions, which he seemd to fulfil and moved to California.

thanks for that...probability suggests Gil did "own" Paris Tower, ( i've seen that site before, and others), but i'd like to see something more difinitive about "ownership". e.g. in print by Gil himself, and yet i have tons of stuff on Gil and not one where he talks about "ownership" of Paris Tower, whereas the other of his labels he does.

You can get most of what you may want by following Discogs and 45cat…but if you want something specific, or say info on The Hyperions ( on Paris Tower), etc let me know. Gil Cabot was a major influence on Paris Tower label , but somewhat oddly I have never come across his name as “ owner” even though he was a major influence in the label and the 3 other associated labels.

Indeed, Romeo Taylor had a varied business & personal life. In 1958 OHIO there was a YMCA free teens club dance contest.Couples leaving the floor when the period within which their birthday was called, leaving just one couple on the floor. Romeo Taylor for the boys and Gloria Jones for the girls. During 1969 to 1970 Romeo was also connected by at least 4 shared addresses (albeit temporary) in Los Angeles to John Rhodes, Muriel & William Earl Brown, and Charles R. Green. The later of which was from OHIO and served in the Soutwest Pacific during WW2. All 4 had been exec's in a firm called Southwest Enterrises in L.A. and had shared addresess with Romeo. Muriel M. Brown 'was (had been) in the business' as a director, stager, writer of theatre productions. As for Marteniques band members.....Donald Revels was a member, and was definitely known to Andy Alonzo because they both got together with Nick Marinelli & Stuart Avig to 'reform' what became a later line-up of Shades of Blue for a valentines concert in 2005. Tootsie Rollers- 10 Pin bowling teams, candy bars from N.J ( at least Tootsie Roll), clowns, etc...but no sight of a group. (suspect Romeo himself invloved, T.R R.T)

I love Foden(not literally of course) …but Bellingham for the first game against Serbia
  21. you can't drive 1/2 mile without seeing a "Northern Soul Keep The Faith sticker" in the back window of a car.😡
  22. It’s not all doom-and-gloom…just when I think it can’t get any worse, up pops Ace with their Shrine box set, or Butch coming to Ukrainian, or the numerous other event/ release highlights
  23. I'm guessing the majority of people on this site would maybe run-a-mile if engaged in conversation with the general public and Northern Soul was mentioned. Why? because any nostalgia that was once present for many of us, has been firmly trodden into the ground by what has become the ubiquitous commercial nature of what many people now think Northern Soul is. Unfortunately, i think this reality is the future.
