Some really thoughtful posts there Barry and you know I'm so glad I came out of that box all those years ago! Life would be musically a much poorer place.

Least Memorable/most Disappointing Live Soul Act
Just to balance up that post - two of the best acts - Randy Brown at the Shaw Theatre, London and Edwin Starr at Wigan 1979

Least Memorable/most Disappointing Live Soul Act
Mine was very recent - the other Sunday - went to see Jack Ashford and the Funk Bros at Sage Gateshead...I'ld convinced myself it was going to be the original Funk Bros (those still around) a la the documentary "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". I should have done my research, as it ws 80 years old Jack and a much younger band, albeit quite impressive. But not what I hoped to see. Just Motown by numbers really. Add to that I passed on Thorne the previous night to see this and got vertigo up in the gods and it's one I'll forget....

Coloured Vinyl
You're right Jock, 1994 to be precise! It was turned up at a record fair in Ohio by Cleveland collector Nello Cotugno sometime in the 80s. A real oddity.

Hayes Cotton
Surely also a big Keb record at Stafford..always reminds me of Loz Bennett - she used to love this.

The Worst Journey To Wigan!?
1) Anyone on the coach from Nottingham when Phil Flavell (Leicester) put his fist through a Space Invaders machine...the police would not let the coach go until the person responsible owned up...no one would dare drop Phil in it! His hand was dripping with blood and he was saying "If the person owns up..what will you do?" 2) Rob Burnett mini bus from Loughborough for one of the late anniversarys...broke down - never got out of Loughborough... 3) Regular train journeys from Loughborough - changes all over the place on the way home and getting back at 1600 Sunday afternoons!

Clapping
I do know what you mean though Barry - it was a nice warm glow...heightened when it was something that you'ld travelled really wanting to hear ("Joe Matthews"/"Rose Valentine"/"Maurice Mcallister"/"Topcat"/"Love committee" etc etc)

The Bedford Nite Spot
I remember Sam's Motown spot there too (Last one of the night?)- think he did it more than once- I can remember him playing The Marvelettes "My Baby Must Be A Magician". Also Phyllis Hyman "Under Your Spell" as a new release...
-
The J's " When Did You Stop " - Dante
Another 1980/81 Early Modern Soul Scene classic C/O Sam and Arthur..how far ahead of their time were they....The long intro only used to increase the anticipation...

Bad Accidents With Rare Records?
I remember sending Ian Clark a copy of The Arcades "Theres Got To Be A Loser" in the post around 1979/80 when it was first getting played..I was well chuffed to have found a couple of copies in the States. Unsecurely packaged by myself and ending up broken in the post - I still have it - learnt my lesson - and yes there had to be a loser and it was me!
-
Mind & Matter 45
I never owned one - I may have borrowed one for a couple of months but can't remember now. This was a big Poke record originally at Cleethorpes circa '82. It always reminds me of there - not sure if he had it at Clifton Hall or not but I don't think so. Yes it was "Merlin and the Magicians" C/U.!

Rhythmic Freedom On Air Show 89th Updated
