  1. I watched for about 20 mins up to Charlie Gracie think it went for about 300? A UK collectors goldmine really.
  2. I don't know if you have continued to watch Alien Earth? But just to update Episode 5 is basically a mini movie of what occurred on the "Maginot" prior to it crashing landing on earth. It's basically a replica take of "Alien" the movie of how the crew fort off the zenamorphs with other nasties thrown in for good measure. The whole episode is a rollercoaster ride of terror, fright jumps and jeopardy. I found it most entertaining and true to Scott's take on the franchise. Ridley made a seminal movie and Noah has done it proud in this episode at least. How it all ends comes to a TV series conclusion is going to be fascinating to watch.
  3. Yeah I get that. we all like different things. For me though it's the epitome of our genre and a seminal track with a brilliant intro and great harmonies'. It just begs to be danced to. I don't remember hearing it until the 90's when Butch played it as a guest at a local soul night. Value wise I would be the last person to ask. It's a record I could only dream of owning.
  4. There are two episodes available but I have only watched the first one. It's apparent that Noah has been keen to keep the dynamic and atmosphere the original movie. The set and sound effects will all look very familiar to anyone who has seen the original movie. It also goes without saying that the scare jumps can be quite alarming and probably terrifying to the non converted. For me the story line has not developed enough as yet. But it's clear that the synthetic characters seem to have come to the fore in the opening episode. It's a busy start to the series with Zenamorphs on the loose, spaceships crash landing on earth and Weyland Industries orchestrating in the background. Looking forward to the next one.
  5. Just in case anyone is interested or likes sci fi horror August 12th is the start of the long awaited (for me) "Alien Earth" TV series on FX. I for one have been fascinated by the Alien movie franchise since Ridley Scott's original way back. The series is written and directed by Noah Hawley the guy who gave us the fabulous "Fargo" TV series.
  6. I found it fascinating and as you say it's alarming how big those OCGs are and what they are prepared to do.
  7. The main source of me buying blind was definitely Soul Bowl in the 70s. Falling for the highlighted front page pushed 45s that were within my budget. Generally this worked out really well with things like "Happiness Is Here" on Topper that was something I'd not heard at Wigan if it was I don't recall it so I bought it. Johnny Moore on Sceptre another cracker and Oscar Perry " Ive got what you need" I knew Main string but not this gem at the time. But I also bought that "Misery Loves Company" thing on Essica? I don't remember who it was by but I soon off loaded, it may be popular now? But don't regret selling it. Another pup was the mega (wey too fast) Terry Collins and a slow paced Charles Davenport awful thing on WB . Most of my junkshop blind buys turned out dire with a few exceptions Royalettes on US MGM and Little Milton on UK Chess.
  8. And if you like Motown cheapies try this
  9. Killer intro on this cheapie
  10. Cheapie on Laurie from a legend and another cheapie Bobby Hutton
  11. Think I may have bought some white label motown stuff off you in the late 90's?
  12. Civic Hall Whitchurch? I thought they were only bank holiday dayers?
  13. The Ritz for me were just exceptional dayers with artists on and a diverse play list from the DJ's. Carousel Ballroom in Longsight were good too but it was always pissing down walking to it from Pic station. Cats Whiskers Burnley had a fabulous dance floor and was the first time I heard Soul Sam play George Kirkby.
  14. Yes I went to at least two probably in 77/78. It was straight down the A49 from me so gave it a go a couple of times. TBH I can't remember many DJ's except Brian Rae or anything else except a good dance floor. Did it have another room upstairs? I have a feeling it may have been Bank Holiday Monday dayers? BTW I remember coming to your gaff many years ago to buy some white label Motown stuff. Dave Harris
  15. Hope you find someone. It's a great venue for real ale at a great price. I meet up with current and retired railway colleague's there a few times a year. Plus it's in Wigan what more can a boy ask for. Good luck.
  16. Believe me (drum banging) it goes on a lot a sports grounds. Having watched Leigh Leopards more recently than my football team Man City. I kinda like the way it builds up the game but you have to be there to appreciate the tribalism. It makes for a great atmosphere.
  17. Possibly. It was 1.50 ordered from a local record shop who had a list of imports they could get. It was on a blue Vee Jay label sounded really good too. But I thought the genuine copies were on a pink NUVJ label. May be it was a genuine re issue. It's long since gone now. My auntie actually got me UK demo as well when she worked at British overseas radio in Berlin.
  18. That was a huge wigan sound. I bought it off Tony Just for a fiver on white vinyl and sold it a week later to my mate at work in Rylands wire works Warrington for seven quid. To buy Ronnie Forte from Soul Bowl.
  19. My first was Don Thomas Come On Train then shortly after I bought a metal EMI Disc at Wigan hand written Night Owl on one side and Inky Winky Wang..... on the other. Probably 76/77 not completely sure of the year. Flood gates opened after that with I'm Where it's At, Forgive and Forget and I'm Cumin Home In The Morning.
  20. I'm saddened to hear of Brian's passing. Other than in M's I remember him at the Carlton Club Warrington with my old mate Keith Brady. Rest In Peace Brian
  21. For me the Kent albums were a goldmine of unissued stuff I loved all those oldies too. But it was things like Its Torture, I want a guarantee, Magic Touch, Chuck Carter Hey Girl He's a Lover that were just fantastic to hear for the first time. Me and a friend hoovered up as many as we could get our hands on especially from King Bee in Manchester. I think the last I recall buying was the Dore album on vinyl. Then I moved on to the CDs albums. Highlights being Up Town Down South, LA Happening, Old Town/Barry, Carnival and the Northern Soul Spectrum collection. Great thread btw Dave
  22. Just watched it 😢 heart breaking. The scene has lost a legend.
  23. Hardhitting TV the young kid was fabulous. Graham rarely disappoints and he didn't here surely an award on it's way for this.
  24. Cockwood Harbour Devon River Exe estuary
  25. Terrible news. That's so sad a really nice guy and fabulous DJ.
