  4. Its just an anorak thing for me (and perhaps others) Arthur Conley first sang Where You Lead Me / I'm A Stranger as below on Ru-Jac, both sides being re-titled on Jotis (I believe the are all different takes as well) I found this info on the web which explains a lot. "Wanting to reunite with his father, Conley moved to Baltimore, where he joined Harold Holt's band. Holt's manager recorded them in 1965, and allowed Arthur to sing two tunes at the session." "Just as Holt's record with Arthur's vocal came off the presses, Otis Redding came to town, and Holt's manager gave him a copy. Redding managed to listen past the ham-fisted production and liked the young singer. He was making plans to start his own label, Jotis, and decided Arthur Conley would be his first signing. He arranged to have them cut a couple of tunes at Stax, which prompted a lawsuit from Harold Holt's manager. Otis decided it was time to manage Conley himself and met him for the first time early in 1967. A couple of weeks later, they were in the FAME Studios in Alabama." I am interested to see the credits, which I guess would have explained some of the above, but who was "Hoke", does anyone know please ?
  5. I have no idea but someone will hopefully know, just thought it was good to post it and see 😀 I am sure someone know of Graham (I don't know him) but he has somewhat of a pedigree, it appears "As a Press Officer for Pye Records and later CBS Records in London, Graham handled the publicity for several former Motown artists, including Gladys Knight & The Pips and Edwin Starr whilst with Pye (through their licences with Buddah and 20th Century Records respectively) and would work with Gladys Knight & The Pips (again!), Billy Griffin and Marvin Gaye whilst at CBS Records. As a journalist for Melody Maker, Blues & Soul, Record Buyer and several other outlets, he has interviewed many Motown greats, including Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Temptations, The Commodores, Hal Davis, High Inergy and Harvey Fuqua, among others. During the course of writing the Motown Encyclopedia, he has re-acquainted himself with many former Motown artists, checking facts and feats and getting the background stories to some of the greatest music ever produced. In short, nearly forty years of music industry experience has resulted in the definitive book about Motown."
  6. 11. I just wonder when we say "common sense" it's easy when "you know what you know" through experience, how many buyers are new and lack knowledge or new to collecting I have mentioned before at 14, I bought a Rufus Lumley, "I'm Standing" with my school dinner money, I never had any common sense or experience to know it was a bootleg (my wife says I have little common sense now) but 40+ years on I can tell a boot 😁
  12. I wonder what Paypal would say if someone claimed as "not as described" seems a bit of a Quandary that one with Ebay being against counterfeits apparently

  21. The lack of credit makes me wonder (no pun intended) if Johnny did not stay long on the inside, it would still be great if we could find out what happened and more about him though, if you can ask your contacts
  22. Robb, Kim Weston was introduced to Berry Gordy by Eddie Holland after she was singing demos (would love to here those !!!) in Johnny Thornton's studio It's not much help, but he must have been well known in Detroit, as he was cousin to Eddie and Brian Holland, which explains his penning of "Put Yourself In My Place". His name was not on the credits for The Elgins and other releases though ? How intriguing
  23. So that's the end of this thread seems like Giovanni may be returning his threads as well as he failed to get through Never mind Northern Soul lives another day......again for the better
