  1. agree with you, nobodys fault if you sell and people want to pay for it, i would, if they dont do the research thats their problem
  2. sold for £159 watch out for a run on it ill take 50 for mine
  3. time and money waits for no one, no even old soulies, its history yes, but only a generations history, our generations, when we go so will our history, fact of life im afraid. our history is recorded in various publications and in that it goes on, they only preserve old buildings surronded by 20 million acres so the masses can have somewhere to walk at the weekend.

  7. I was groomed into it by my older brother Barry, who started bringing 'motown' records home after hearing them at the Dungeon all nighter in Nottingham, later the Beachcomber, then he started going to the Brit club. I first went tho the Soul Shack in Beeston Notts at about the age of 15. progreesed later to the Brit myself and that was it. First tune i bought was Jackie Wilson, Higher & Higher , from Barry. However our Dad had quite a few Blues tunes and was a fan of N.K Cole, Duke Ellington etc so maybe it was the old man.
  8. Went to Wigan from Oct 73 - 76 dont recall the best dancers dancing at the front, I guess at that time though the posers hadnt formed the 'elite' clan of, look I can dance better than you group. Chris
  9. what a brilliant tune although cant remember hearing in the early days,
  10. Enjoyed the weekend highlight for us was Carls spot in the main hall and Jumpin Joan in theRedemption room. Missed the usual saturday night djs in the main hall, (the bit we especially look forward to) that would be the likes of Butch and T. Brown etc. to much of the regular stuff pushed out by the regular play it safe djs for our liking. Redemption was great and needs a bigger room. thanks to all those who do the stuff to make it work especially J.P Chris

Echo many of the previous memories from the mid 70s particularly the Bali hai downstairs ( I needed to be reminded it was on a Monday) Colmans in town, Intercon ( late on Tuesdays as I recall) Creepers (Basford Hall mw with Rob Smith djing in his early years) Manchester unity in beeston and of course. The Brit, Ilkeston co op etc etc. But the Palais was the best venue without a doubt. Sharon x
  13. Too much to read and too little time so, because the vote section asks for the rationale for the vote cast, here it is: My son is in it and I saw him clearly about half a dozen times so that was nice for us!! Overall the film was a touch of light entertainment with a bit of a love story built on the premis of the nostalgia which is the Northern Soul scene. Not the Wigan that me and Chris knew and loved but then nothing could ever bring that back and I dont think I want the weak copies that todays `Northern soulies` purport their venues to be. Some are a good try but they will never be good enough!!! The film served to help pass an hour or so pleasantly enough: No need for an in depth critique because I dont think it was made for any other reason than to entertain; It did that for me so thats good enough! Sharon

no didn't do the weddings but did the alnighter travelling from Nott's with my mate Trev, we hitch hiked there and back, wheeeww them were the days. that would be 1973, think it closed after that. Not sure but reckon I'm the only one still playing B. J. Royal caue I haven't heard it out anywhere.
  21. Went to Wigan in a purple, hand painted (I think) van driven by Ian Walker (Nottingham): His mate Phil Jones and I cant remember if Rob Smith was in it as well (He knocked about with those two at the time) my friend Janet and others who I can`t think of through the haze of time. Went to Cleethorpes on a bus from outside Ilkeston Co op: Can`t remember who ran that either! Can anyone else `coz it was usually full..... (Think my Alzheimers is getting a grip)! Sharon x
  22. Whilst not getting involved in the specific issues in this case (although I will watch with interest as it all unfolds!) I just want to say that whoever (and wherever) it is should be ashamed because I personally think that you are a bonus to have at any soul night: You do my heart good just to see the enjoyment you appear to get from being out on the floor!! Now folks back to the real interesting stuff.........................!! Sharon x
  23. The covenant tax scheme for charities is a really good system I think. Would the BHF themselves not be able togive you the information you need? Just asking this because when we did a charity event for the NSPCC they were extremely helpful (and knowledgeable of course) This website might be useful also: https://www.hmrc.gov.uk/index.htm Sharon x
