  1. Just a few finishing tonight, Sunday 29th July about 9:15 pm UK time A few lesser knowm rarities, plus a few indemand classics https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/motown-sound/m.html Cheers Mick
  2. They're still available at the label . . . https://kimberliterecords.com/ Don't know for how long though.
  3. Yes, it is longer on the Soultown release, but that is a different release, sometime later. There are so many Canterbury variants of the original Delta, all with slightly different matrix numbers, it's almost impossible to document them, as "new" variations are turning up even now (eg. RNS had a three word titled variation only a couple of months ago, and only by playing the soundclip, could you tell. Same applies to the two word variation in this post. One other thing to mention, the timings printed on the labels are no guide whatsoever, for example, the Tempos variation says 3:15 or thereabouts, but is just the normal length song. As far as I know, there is no mystery or variation for later releases on Soultown (clearly a longer version - again ignore printed time), or Zea (Kings Of Hearts, which reverted back to the short version. Someone over on Facebook did compare the KOH to a standard short Canterbury and said it was a couple of seconds longer (or shorter?), but if that's so, it'll just be down to the fade out. Cheers Mick
  4. That was the one from last week. You may not realise it, but that copy has the extra verse in it. I meant to bid on it myself, but forgot. Luckily for you, no one noticed it was the different version, so well done.

  6. We must have been lucky in our neck of the woods, as new US releases at that time were £1.00 (from Pep), and CJ was one we all got.
  7. For me it's Doni's version, only just. There's just something about it, maybe more to do with the different backing singers rather than DB himself.

  11. Don't know which came first , but "chick 'n slacks" is the more common, not that that helps you. There is a listing on an earlier number (104), on soulfulkindamusic, but I've never seen one.
  12. I thought it was the other way around. I alway thought her name was "Warrick", but an early typo on an ad, or record label meant her name was spelt "Warwick" and it just became the norm (Much like "Tomorrow Never Lies" inadvertently became "Tomorrow Never Dies"). Over here in UK, Warwick is pronounced Warrick anyway, but the US may pronounce it differently. Isn't there a Warwick in Maine , or Rhode Island ? How is that pronounced ? Of course, it may be that Dionne, after the initial mistake, does actually pronounce her name "War-wick", much as you say.
  13. With Edwin Starr, as he moved over to UK, did he register with PRS ? (I haven't been able to check) I see his later Happy Radio is on the BMI list so maybe he didn't join PRS, but if he did it may explain a lack of some songs. Just a thought. I'm struggling to find any reference to "JUST A LITTLE PART OF YOUR LIFE", Edwin Starr or the Spinners - Can you point me in the right direction? Cheers Mick
  14. I always think of Herbie Goins as "Goy-Inns". I think that's how people pronounced it, but nothing to say it's right or wrong, and could be one of the two ways you mentioned. (Just noticed, my thoughts of "Goy-Inns" is the same as your thoughts of Loins as you mentioned). One that most of us get wrong is Dana Valery. She's always referred to as "Val-Er-Ee", just like the forename Valerie would be. Hovever she pronunces her name as Dana "Va-Lairy".
  15. I think that one was the same as the one Blue Max had on a CD in the late 90's or early 2000's (probably transferred from an earlier cassette ?) He gave me a copy of it to see if I could do anything with the very low vocal. I couldn't.
  16. Well, looking at this image and comparing it to that of an original, there are many differences. The original has a much thinner diamond in the logo, which is positioned so as to see the four quarters On the new one the 3 o'clock diamond is offset and can't be seen. The text height is different too. Also I see the bottom three lines are spaces differently, and the address is also positioned differently. I think the fonts used are modern day computer fonts shaped as best as possible to match the original, but never quite getting it right. Here's some images. Apart from above, you can see there are other differences, like the dip on the middle ... Here's an Original . . . . . . and here's the new copy . . . To me, now I've put sized images up together, it's very obvious it's just a modern copy. Cheers Mick
  17. It was in St Georges, Telford. It was still in the mid 70's
  18. That's just a piece of description referring to his other listings, which include two Supremes acetates. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPREMES-SHOW-TUNES-8-Track-ACETATE-LP-Dated-6-24-68-BERRY-GORDY-SOUL/392031241637?hash=item5b46e205a5:g:-DIAAOSws6ha5c8R https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUPREMES-SHOW-TUNES-6-Track-1-Sided-ACETATE-LP-Dated-6-24-68-BERRY-GORDY/352341703935?hash=item520933bcff:g:yjcAAOSwZwxa5c0~ I also suspect the bit underneath, saying original pressing, is just a mistake (same with E of S.) Generally his stuff is marked as Originals or Pressings. Might cause a problem.
  19. Ok, That makes sense. So it is possible LSH was first played a little earlier than Oct 81, and Richard could/would have played it prior to the Sept 81 finale. Actually, as I type this, I've just had a brain flash of hearing 'Come On Back To Me Baby' (FIMH from the same batch), while I was in the record bar at Wigan turning to the nearest person, and asking "what's this?" It may have been one of the very last events at Wigan in 81.
  20. LSH turned up in the UK via Dave Withers and Rod, alongside Suspicion / It's Too Late / Forever In My Heart. Dave cut those four on to acetates for me at the time and it must have been about 1982 or even touching 83. Update - Seems it was 81 so, yes it could have been a very late Wigan spin
  21. Here's the first Australian issue from May 1973 ... Strange, but there's nearly an 800 increase in the MW number in only two years (MW 10213 - 10794) - Don't know what that's about. Cheers Mick
  22. I would say they "should" all be about the same at £15 / £20. However if you are a collector missing one or two, irrespective of which ones they are, then the price could be way more. So potentially any, or all of them could be two or three times that. Cheers Mick
  23. I always felt the inclusion of the track on the CD was just a mistake, as Fifth estate were an all male group. Maybe the tape was found along with the other Wadlams / Askew compositions / recordings and it was just presumed to be them. Just my impression. and I may be wrong. Cheers Mick
  24. There's far more instrumentation on the MGM version too - I think the Fifth Estate was a work in progress, more of a basic recording, albeit 99% finished.
  25. Some of the early ones are quite cheap too. I think people just want some titles more than others, I doubt if there are extra copies being pressed, or any lowwering of the quality, it's just down to demand. Cheers Mick
