Record Lists From The Past
I was looking for an old list from years ago for some info on a record, and thought I'd post this up. The first is from Craig Moerer about 1980. I'll take that Joseph Webster please. And this one from Simon Soussan a bit earlier - July 1976. How to win friends ... Interesting to see the early incarnations of his ling a long's - Sharon Scott became "Dena Barnes" etc Cheers Mick

What's The Story? (The Duck)
Yes, I would like to see one again just so I can see what the label is called - maybe Ringleader in post #24 (or SHEFFSOUL) can remember. Cheers Mick

Oddball Acetate - Who Knocked This Up?
I did those labels in the very early eighties - When those Motown tracks first turned up, I had the 4 tracks cut onto 2 discs via Dave Withers. It was no real secret as to who the real artists were, but the correct song titles did remain more elusive, hence the inaccurate titles on the labels. The labels I did were good quality photocopies - tippexed out - and Letraset used for the titles - That became the master and I then photocopied them again to get the finished label. - Only ever did one copy of each label - M. Gaye / Temptations and G.Knight / Originals - I did them purely for myself, probably gave them away for next to nothing after they had served their purpose and the Originals single sided boot turned up. I remember a few years back seeing one or other of them up on eBay, advertised as original acetate - I felt obliged to tell the buyer they had bought a dud. Got no Idea how or why one of them turned up in Texas. That's quite strange, I can only assume they have been passed though various hands as originals for one of them to end up amongst genuine acetates. Still got the artwork somewhere - dug it out at the time It was on eBay to show the buyer. Cheers Mick

Sandy Wynns - The Touch Of Venus
Must admit I quite like it - sort of clip/clops along - much faster than the established version(s) - I would think it is a much earlier version, before it was completely rearranged for Partice Holloway and then Sandy Wynns to have a go. Mick

What's The Story? (The Duck)
Pete It was booted well before the ABC issue - as James Conwel Jr, both sides with the correct titles and recorded at the right speed (The RT was speeded up) - It was a black label with silver text, can't remember the label name though - there were plenty around in about 1975 or so. Surprisingly scarce now - last copy I had flew out for £30 - that was about 4 years ago, haven't had another since. Cheers Mick Just noticed the post above me by Ringleader, saying the same - 'sorry bout that.

Willie & Magnificents/ Willie & West
Am I right in thinking "Hurts On Me baby" was released as a single credited to the Moments on Stang, of is this a different version? Cheers Mick

Irish Issue - Anyone Else Seen One?
I thought the Tami Lynn was UK (there's one in popsike, but label is not high res enough to make out the finer details - could also be a fake too, don't know) A lot of sub labels of the UK majors had releases in Ireland using the major label design - I have Freda Payne on black Columbia (INV 502) - I also know that INV 501 (Give Me Just ...) also appeared on the same label. A couple of 70 "Apple" Beatles related releases also came out on black Parlophone in Ireland. I have one by George Harrison. Also London records in Ireland used the Silver Top design up till at least 1971/72 - I have a copy of Al Green / Let's Stay Together on silver top - looks fantastic. There must be loads more. Cheers Mick

Gloria Jones, Jimmy Mcfarland And The Tiaras CD
Rob, It was the Jimmy McFarland I meant - One version is much longer - The first verse and chorus have been repeated. Apart from the two different Intro's, and this first verse loop, the two versions are absolutely identical, so it would appear there is no 60's recording of this after all ... at least not on this CD. I like this new recording, and the new recording of Gone With The Wind is also good (this is the full version, as per R&T / Kent 45) Cheers Mick

Phil La Of Soul - (Label Of The Week)
"fillet of sole" - as in the label name

Gloria Jones, Jimmy Mcfarland And The Tiaras CD
Just got the Album from Cdbaby - Quite like the two takes from Jimmy McFarland - On first play, (apart from the intro) I can't tell the difference, but I'm sure that after a few plays the differences will be apparent. There's nearly an extra minute on the Orig version for a start. I think the Gloria & Tiaras - Gone With The Wind is great. Thanks Lou Now then, what about the Instrumental of Blowing My Mind ... Cheers Mick

House For Sale
I'll bet that's the one i thought I heard credited to Jerry fuller. Can't find any refrence to that list number - found the zs8 3680 - 3690 - only one Jerry Butler listed in that range, but there are a few missing numbers - any chance of a scan Cheers Mick

House For Sale
Once heard a version played out as "Jerry Fuller" - sounded exactly the same as MJ - even the vocals sounded the same, so it may be the one mentioned above. I did try to listen out for "still reflects 'his' memory" in the song but never got to hear that far into it as my empty beer glass took me to the bar.

Jimmy Mcfarland - Blowing My Mind To Pieces
I think there may be two different CDs. The "unavailable" one on Amazon from October 2010 is a two track Vocal and Instrumental (I'm guessing this is probably the re-recorded version). Then, on another forum from March 2011, a member (jsoulsmith ?) was giving details of a New CD with both the re-recorded version, and the original version, plus other tracks, including running times etc. Maybe it's just a case of contacting Lou Barreto to get one - Can't find any contact info for him though - maybe someone can help on that. Thanks Again Mick

Anyone with this --- I've since learned it was available from last month from Lou Barreto, but unsure if this is correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mick
