I Hate Northern Soul
[quote I'd be surprised if many outside the scene knew what "footsee" or"out on the floor" were anyway so I'm happy just to say "northern soul" and leave 'em wondering what the hell it is

Final Record Ever
For me it's Jerry Butler "Stop Steppin On My Dreams". Never took much notice of it until Bob Hinsley finished the Ritz Allnighter last Christmas ( or the year before?) with it... Peter

Records That Changed Your Life
Whilst in the last 18 months at school, probably early 19**, I was listening to heavy rock, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin (even saw them live, HardRock in Stretford), ELP, Yes, etc. One Saturday I was talked into going to a night at the "Navada" in Bolton by a couple of mates in my class, it was roller skating rink in the week and a "disco" on Saturdays, it was a huge place, big dance floor, and can remember hearing "The Night" by Frankie Vallie and Jimmy Ruffins "What becomes of the broken hearted". After few more visits that was it I was hooked, I used to note down the records I 'd heard then the following week, go to HMV on Market Street Manchester (Upstairs as it was then) and thanks to Derek Howe my collection slowy increased...and never looked back. I still have all the heavy rock LPs stored away... Regards Peter.

Your fave 60's POP record
Hi Guys, it has to be Little Tin Soldiers The Small Faces, and one that doesn't get a lot of recognition but goes back to the very early 6t's, The House Of Bamboo by Andy Williams. Andy Williams you say.....it is a good track though.. Peter

Dance Floors That 'Made You Feel Like A King'
The best floor for me was the Ritz in Manchester in the late 70's before it was lowered to the floor, it was huge and had wrought Iron railings all the way round. You had to climb 4 steps to get onto it, it was so slippy and springy, now its a mess with boards sticking out and loose sections. I think the best two now are The Monaco in Hindley and The Ritz in Brighouse, both sprung and very slippy.

Function At The Junction
Has anybody just seen Function At The Junction? 11.30pm It has been mentioned on this site and the trailer is on Heart Of Soul website. I was just flicking through the channels and just came to BBC Four as Function At The Junction was starting I missed the first few minutes, it was only about 10 minutes but really well done, the hair and fashions were spot on. I have looked through the Radio times for the rest of the week and there is no mention of it, they could show it again.... Peter

Have an opinion
Allnighters - Soul nights? Allnighters...but do like Brighouse as a soul night. Live acts - Dance comps? Don't mind either as long they're a decent act for example (Lorraine Silver at Stoke last year (don't think so)) Dance Comps---Friday at Cleggy.. Footie Soul every time... Oldies Newies Like both. Scooters - Cars? Scooters every time. Talc - Polished floor? Polished floor..talc gets all over the place. Night out at cinema with missus/fella - Night of cheap bootlegs? Bootlegs at least its music and it's whats in the groove that counts Lager - Bitter Vodka - Red Bull to start, copious amounts of water to finish. Stompers - Soulful mid-tempo? Stompers

Dancing Comps
Maybe we are OAPs on speed but show me a teenager who dance like Carl or Andy or anyone else for that matter or even stay out at an allnighter I know mine can't.!! See you Friday night at cleggy!!!!! make a space on that floor LOL

Your fave lyric line
How about Sammy Ambrose "This Diamond Ring" Who wants to buy this diamond ring, she took it of her finger now it doesn't mean a thing, this diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore. This diamond ring doesn't mean what it meant before. And Sam Fletcher "I'd Think It Over Twice. I'd think it over twice, I'd take some good advice, if I were you girl. you say you love him but tell me are you really sure. And Millie Jackson "House For Sale" The bedroom is right this way with unlimited closet space.... AND.... Located at 1679 Gidwell Avenue, Theres just something about "House For Sale" Peter

Talcum Soul
Dave Rimmer had the best idea at the Febuary CIS allnighter, he stopped the music and asked everyone with a drink in their hand to kindly leave the dance floor. It worked!!!!

Talcum Soul
Went to Brighouse Ritz and Bury Town hall last Friday (Bury for the last 90 mins or so). Both excellent venues, the difference is, Brighouse has banned the use of Talc on the dance floor, they search holdalls going in and confiscate any talc found. The management say it ruins the dance floor. The dance floor at Bury was a sea of white powder (Talc of course) making it more like a skating rink than dance floor. The Longfield Suite also does it's best to stop people using Talc. If people find it hard to dance on a polished wooden floor, perhaps investing in a pair of decent shoes would help.

Soul on the Radio
Re Sid and Bernadettes post about the Monaco, afriend of mine phoned me at 6.15 just as I got home from work, "Pete, get changed and get down to mine as we are going to a Soul night at the Monaco it's being filmed for the Johnny vaughn show, and bring some records" So a very quick change, flew down to Als jumped in his car and arrived at the Monaco at 8.10, and yes there was a guy up a ladder with a glitter ball and about 8 soulies stood around, the room was indeed packed. On closer inspection it was definetly a Line Dancing Night, the "filming" ended at 8.15. That was it....no soul night...lots of crossed wires...and then the speakers burst into life with T rex and Jitterbug boogie yehaaaaaaaa slap my thigh...time for a sharp exit :-) we were back in the house for 9.30.
