1 Acetate
i might have a recording of this that someone sent me, which would mean i could also potentially follow the trail of people who passed on the recording to the original owner. i will check in the next few days and get back to you. I'm sure someone recently sent me on a CD some record of an unreleased four below zero (or maybe it was that "five below zero") track.

Label Please
I think this list mixes up several right on labels. There was the canadian label active around '76 (which is the AC Soulful Symphony). There is the early 70s right on label that the total eclipes is on which I think was based in new york. And there is that early 70s right on based in Chicago that only released one record (the Variations).

Will The Real Simon Soussan Stand Up
with this specific story, his actions don't seem like crazy cons or even fraud, just standard (shady) record dealer moves that happen today. People all the time sit on quantity of records and will sell you one at a price like it's the last copy. People all the time will buy a record from you and resell it for more. The second thing isn't even really shady, unless it's a good friend.

Five Keys On Inferno
yeah, lots of records that have nothing to do with Chicago were pressed in Chicago and have that clearly chicago font / label

I Can't Wait Until I See My Baby's Face How Many Versions?
I don't want to attempt to list all the versions I can think of because there's like a bazillion versions, but just want to say that my absolute favorite version is the Dontells on Ambassador.

Not Posting Outside Usa - Your Loss
to JulianB: I would receive your package (I'm not a jerk, I try to be helpful) but I'm already doing this for like 5 people here so I don't want to add one more person onto my list.

Not Posting Outside Usa - Your Loss
they say this several times in the auction text: Please Note: We DO Ship WORLDWIDE! this says several times in the auction: What's the deal? Is there still something wrong or did he change his policy after figuring out where most buyers were?

another totally random connection I have with a person is that Eli "paperboy" Reed went to the University of Chicago for a year and started doing a southern soul show after me. I took him around the city to different record shows, thrift stores, etc. He then dropped out of school to focus on his music. Sort of random that I knew him before his recording career.

Thanks everyone. It is interesting to hear how younger people get into soul music. As in the story, much of my generation got into it through hip hop and sampling. I know there is a whole new wave of young California collectors getting into the music through the sweet soul collector scene over there. And there are more soul nights in other cities in the US than ever before, but I'm not sure why -- maybe because it's such a "hip" and different sound from anything else. I think that these soul nights probably inspire even more people to collect the music. A few years ago I was saying that the music would die as the collectors got older (which is sort of what happened to the doowop scene) but it's great that new blood is coming into collecting to keep it alive.

That band-aides thing sounds like rockabilly to me (only listened to that one because it sounded interesting)

Ebay Purchases - Details Public?
this still happens a lot. I even get some stuff cheap to resell. What's annoying is when dealers buy stuff for not cheap so they can resell it even more. I keep getting outbid on certain items by certain dealers where I'm bidding what seems like a fair price (and I'm always the second bidder). What's weirder is people who constantly search other people's IDs to see what they bid on. I do this, mainly to see if there was anything good I missed. It's sort of creepy to know that other people do it to me though, as I've had multiple random people ask me about records I won.

Blue Sharks
I think it's more likely a case of the global market making some things available that weren't before, just like some US records were thought to be rare by UK collectors and aren't anymore. I doubt it was bootlegged as they show up in different conditions. People in Italy probably know to look out for it now. Also, given that it's like a straight pop record and doesn't look indie, it probably was produced and distributed in some amount (for whatever reason, it would be interesting to hear the story behind it).

Favourite Label - Aesthetically Speaking

the colors on this are great. it sort of reminds me of the new day label that billy garner is on. that label has an awesome design.

Ignorant Posters In Wants
you're right, you didn't say to ban anything. Sorry to draw this out, it clearly wasn't so important of an issue to merit a long debate. have a good holiday.
