Instrumentals
I'm understanding you fully, I wasn't listing it as a candidate, I also didn't mean I'm surprised YOU haven't mentioned it, I was surprised ALL the OTHER members that have contributed hadn't mentioned it among all the other classics mentioned, that's all, Hope that's clear now
-
Instrumentals
Just to clear things up here, if all the contributions were obscure semi/unknown instrumentals I wouldn't have mentioned 'Bari Track' and wouldn't normally post in these types of thread anyway, Instead I read almost 2 pages of lists of readily known tracks following on from the topic starters request, and mentioned I was surprised at the absence of 'Bari Track' No biggie really
-
Instrumentals
A comment from the opening post from the topic starter ; i ill open with the most popular being checkerboard squares? Obviously the topic starter isn't fed up, and I would put 'Bari Track' firmly in this category, especially if the likes of 'Interplay' are being contributed

Instrumentals
Almost without mention then And the fact it still took to post #34 is a bit of a surprise
-
Instrumentals
I could be wrong but have I just quickly skipped through 80+ posts on Classic Northern Soul Instrumentals and no mention of this????

B Side Condition
That wasn't my point Pete, my point is 'if' I had a choice of a Cajun Hart (or any other 45) with 2 good sides or one with a trashed 'B' side, I wouldn't expect the prices to be the same,
-
B Side Condition
Surely a 45 with 2 mintish sides (both the popular side and the less popular side) is more desirable (more valuable) than the same 45 with a mintish 'A' side and a trashed 'B' side?

Cecil Womack RIP
Yep not a bad mix, a Womack with Sam Cookes daughter, couldn't go wrong really, sad news

Err, Is It Me
Could be he has genuinely sent the wrong album and wants it back, as it wasn't for sale in the first place? Or maybe he values it at more than what you paid for it

40 Somethings
Possibly the point is, some got to where you are years before you did, some still have to get there, some don't want to get there and very few 'DJ'S' will be aware of where you got on and off the NS merry-go-round, stuff you don't know will undoubtedly be someone elses hammered to death nostalgia trip, Wanting to hear stuff you don't know is great but there could be plenty going through the coupla years nostalgia trip you enjoyed, so cull all oldies DJ'S?

Is It Just Me....?
That's the good thing about modern technology, if you become aware of a tune new to you, that is in your opinion the best thing you have heard in years, only to find out it's as rare as hens teeth and would cost a kings ransom to own, if you did ever find one, Play it on a loop (on CD or mp3 etc) non stop for hours/days/weeks until you would be happy to never hear the fecking thing again,

When Did We Start With Ovo
It probably originated when it became an option, the same as when other formats were implemented, some venues play cd's, laptops, mp3s, boots and some play original vinyl only, I have played Cds in the pub, I have dabbled on a laptop in another pub, I wouldn't turn up at somewhere like lifeline with a memory stick, I really don't understand your concerns Barney, there's countless venues up and down the country that don't give a flying fukc, and good luck to em, I play at plenty and don't complain, Then there's venues that choose to be more selective in their chosen format, and good luck to them, I play at plenty, I don't complain, The only time it becomes an issue is when someone wants to play something other than the format preferred at any given night, Think that just about sums it up,

Are Youngsters Coming Through?
At home/in the car I listen to all kinds of formats, but you stating a 23 year old of today hasn't 'moved on' from what you learned is ridiculous, she is, relatively speaking, just starting out, By your guidelines it's OK for Natalie to remain within the boundaries of your history, carry a box of dodgy records that you wore your parents carpet out to, and that will keep the flame burning? Back on topic, if you really expect todays 'technology smart' youth to carry heavy boxes of fake vinyl round for any length of time then I'm afraid it aint gonna happen, they either get the collecting bug (as some have) or it ain't happening,
-
Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Doesn't need to move on? Are you honestly suggesting Natalie will have that play list forever? that she won't change her tastes as she grows? That something maybe Chalky plays at the next lifeline won't inspire her? You say Natalie hasn't moved on, I'd like to bet there was a time she didn't know any of that play list, isn't that moving on? Don't misunderstand me, I'm hardly a trailblazer of all things new, quite the opposite, but everyone having every big hitting 45 on dodgy vinyl in heavy boxes. won't last very long, it challenges no-one and will soon become stale, more stale than it already is,
-
Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Glad you can't argue with 340, personally I have no interest whatsoever what my 4 grown up kids think, in return neither have they any interest in my records, my only point is how will the thing move on, even at a snails pace (even the most dyed in the wool oldies fan warms to another tune every now and then) if everyone is pointlessly lugging the same box of 200 boots around? That new discovery for that artist, that then gets booted won't happen surely? If there's no original there's no boot
-
Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Probably not put as eloquently as the above, but I think I'm correct in thinking Spyder Turner, or any other artist would have never been recognised in NS terms if the original release of any 45 had not been found and played, before it was ever bootlegged, the point being any artist may be grateful that their release was served to the masses via dodgy vinyl they must ultimately be grateful it was discovered in the first place, if this didn't happen there would be no 'latter' and won't be again,
-
Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Just a thought, 'Back in the day we all bought bootlegs' is a common comment and very true, but back then apart from cassettes it was the only way to own and listen to the tunes, Today with the advantage of technology we can listen to almost anything any time in the comfort of our own home, so why on earth would a youngster starting out want to lug a heavy box of boots around when they can carry 1000s of tracks on their key ring? Surely the only good reason for carrying heavy boxes all over the shop is because what's in those boxes is worth the effort?
-
Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Yes we can Barney, we can go and start even more venues and nights to satisfy your desire for equality, but , for any reasonably worthwhile event, I would imagine any promoter is doing their best to put on an enjoyable night, to go out of their way to incorporate particular sections of age and/or gender would be discrimination in itself,
-
Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Correct!! There will be no men in the next Wimbledon womens final either, but that wasn't the point, whoever a promoter sees fit to employ to make the most of a night they have decided to stand or fall by is up to them, regardless of age, gender or collection, it's up to you to attend or not, Or you could do it yourself, then again maybe not

Are Youngsters Coming Through?
Tomorrow (new years day) there will be a full football programme, I would like to bet there will be no over 50s playing in the four professional divisions, is that ageism? It is what it is, if someone gets an invite to DJ then they get an invite regardless of age or gender, if they don't then they don't,
