But I thought the whole point about the top 40 was that they are are records he's had a hand in. Not a top 40 of his own favourites that he's discovered/played at all. So on that basis the bias is, I guess, to be expected isnt it?
  2. Yeah but we know from past cosy chats with Ian on here, his response is likely to be anything but balanced. Like I say it was ever thus...........
  3. I've enjoyed some of all of the podcasts that he's put up. Like everything else, his opinion about what constitutes a great track will, ocassionally differ from mine. It was ever thus. His 'unknown' comments will iritate those in the know but surely after all this time we will come to expect the self promotion and grandiose claims from him so why the angst? I tend to ignore his comments and concentrate on the sounds, it seems a safer option for my blood pressure.
  4. Absolutely Greg. The musical content wether it be the vocals or the arrangement or the instrumentation should grab the attention and hold it regardless of the lyrical slant which would never be misconstrued. There must to tons of this stuff to be discovered. It's all there to enjoy.
  5. Greg, I wonder to what extent stuff like this is either embraced or overlooked because of the content? There is some seriously good music here. Stuff that I am less familiar with but wonderful nonetheless. Chosen Generation, Gospel Leaders, Gospel Dynamics, Goslel Ensembles - super soul. Keep posting pal.
  6. Awesome stuff Greg. Listening while on holiday in US somehow seems to add to the experience.

. Super stuff but how do you get a track listing? I'm listening on an I-pad, does that make any difference?
  8. I remember it as a Mecca spin so maybe late 73?

There are lots as you say but if you look at the discography most of the stuff is from 1949 to 1954. I doubt if the stuff starting at Johhny Taylor is the same label.

Is this in the "Vinyl for sale" section? If i go a do an artist search say - Montclairs - it produces the drop down box and then lists each title under that artist. Does that suggest it's fully open?

Saw them in Tampa with Chicago a few years ago at an outside arena. Great live act. Given the respective group members of each band at that gig, when they played together there must have been 30 of em stage!!

Under 12 hours left. Almost £13k. Late bidding frenzy or end with a whimper?
  15. Mumford and Sons - uniquely perfect for closing out on a Sunday evening at Glastonbury. Inspired.
  16. £80 for it being sealed. Im gonna start unloading some of my stuff at this rate.
  17. Hey Andreas, I don't think there is any chance of me remembering it. We were staying in La Jolla and on the same night we watched UB40 somewhere in San Diego at what I imagine was a basketball arena. We then had to get to this club where I'd seen Bobby Bland advertised. It was definitely what you would describe as a supper club - I remember he came on certainly after midnight. I think my wife and I plus maybe one more were the only white people in the club, not that it was a problem, but it would not be a stretch to say it was not in an upscale area of the city! He asked the audience to write down requests and I asked for "Shoes" and "Yum yum tree" and he actually gave us a few bars of "Shoes" laughing that his band wouldnt even know it! It was a memorable night nonetheless.
  18. One of the greatest vocalists, that's for sure. A catalogue undiminished by time and an a legacy that will endure. I saw him in a seedy supper club in San Diego in the early 80's and without doubt one of the most awe inspiring performances I've ever been so fortunate to witness.

Per R & B Indies 101 Aaron Neville - "Tell it like it is/Why worry" 102 George Davis and the Red Tyler Band - "Hold on help is on the way/Bet you're surprised" 103 Aaron Neville - "She took you for a ride/Space Man" 104 Aaron Neville - "You think you're so smart/Unknown" 105 Aaron Neville - "Those three words/A hard nut to crack" 106 Paul Alexander - "Girls, girls, girls/Talk is so cheap"
  21. Sad news indeed "Genesis" and "Friction" are amongst the greatest albums ever made. Along with fellow group member, Anita Louis, she defined my kind of gritty, southern style soul so perfectly suited to the Stax ethos.
  22. Nat T Jones. Poets on J-2
  23. Arguably the greatest vocalist of all.
