Sweet Deep & Group Ballad Cd Swap
Got Cliff's yesterday (with some neat artwork) and gave it a spin on the road today. Di'Ann Carlton,Johnny Green,Alicia Myers amongst others - just tremendous stuff. Also got chance to give Mark Speakman's an airing and without doubt one of his tracks is an early runner for favourite so far - "Realistics - Putting it down (to the way I feel about you, girl) - sublime and as sweet as it gets in my opinion. Just played Pat's "Soul Seekers - Jesus is the best thing" I know it's an old country standard but that version is so unexpected but clearly inspirational. Great choice.

Sweet Deep & Group Ballad Cd Swap
Mark Speakman's and Pat Biggerstaff's arrived today. Currently playing Pat's which oozes real class within the first few tracks alone - Harvey Scales, Aretta LaMarre - just fantastic music! Looking forward to the rest of the CD and catching up with Mark's later. I've now received 12 CD's and I can honestly say that the quality of music already on offer is simply mind blowing. I can see all of the tracks being played by me on a regular basis for many months to come - many thanks to all concerned. Mike

Sweet Deep & Group Ballad Cd Swap
Now got Ady Pountain's, Gary's and John Lloyd's making it 6 in total. Played most of the CD's today on a 6 hour car trip with the exception of Ady's which had arrived by the time I got home. Absolutely awesome stuff from everybody so far. Just amazing what stuff there is still left to hear after all these years. Long may it continue to be a welcome and fullfilling education. Have now burnt all my CD's and will do track listings over the weekend with a view to getting them out on Monday/Tuesday. Mike.

Sweet Deep & Group Ballad Cd Swap
Received CD's today from Kitch, Dave Turner (Arkwright) and Steve Edgar. Phew! I am truely in exulted company looking at the listings. Will give them all a blast on a six hour trip on Friday along with the one from Mike Lofthouse for which I've managed only to play a few tracks so far. Mine are now ready to burn and with a bit of luck will be ready to send out at the weekend or early next week - family, football and work commitments keep getting in the way!

More Ebay Frivolity
There's a Black Abbotts' single on Roulette from 1972 -"How about me/Everybody needs a little something" Could this have something to do with these Black Abbotts who are clearly not "our" Black Abbotts

If That's What You Wanted - Chuck Jackson - Unissued
Thought that this was just a doctored version with somebody using some software to change the vocals. Sure this has been discussed before. Could be wrong though.

The Ultimate Crossover Record
So major bo***ck dropped with William Cummings and I appear to have struck out with Coco & Ben and C Coulter (probably based on a real lack of depth of understanding of this ever puzzling musical style and increasingly blurred boundaries applicable to the spectrum), so are we talking: 2001 Black Essence - "Change in my life" Wilson Love - "Funny money" If not then I'm fu**ed
-
The Ultimate Crossover Record
You're probably right about William Cummings - one of those moments, but one mans modern is another mans x-over
-
The Ultimate Crossover Record
Whilst we're making a case for "ultimate" x-over how's about: C Coulter - "I can't fight the feeling" William Cummings - "Make my love a hurting thing" Coco & Ben - "Good feeling" To me these are what I consider to be what the definition encompasses, but I might be wrong!!
-
The Ultimate Crossover Record
Amongst those already mentioned particularly Robert Tanner, Chuck Cockerham and Bernard Smith, I always think (rightly or wrongly) of Garfield Fleming - "Don't send me away"

No mention of the Horace Tapscott track. We will need Macca to translate the Steve Allen flip and where did they get the name for 26002?

Requiem For Detroit
I casually watched this whilst it was on but will watch in more detail having Sky + it. A general observation from what I did see is the overwhelming belief that the city has been left to rot - market forces and all that global economy shit. Which in itself may be reflected in many (previously mighty) industrial cities throughout the world, but somehow this resonates more strongly with us because of the undeniable base from which so much of the music which we cherish has been created. We (as in the UK soul scene) continue to reflect and enthuse over the enduring contribution that Detroit has given, but we should despair at the apathy and neglect shown to this city when trying to preserve and acknowledge it's postion in the development of the commercial world via the automotive industry. Sad indeed.
