Tamla 54070 October 1962. Label has "Little Stevie Wonder on vocal & drums"
  7. Baz, That number appears in the general listing for D Town although the earlier numbers end at 1069 and then start again with 8016 which is a Lee Rogers track. Other tracks in this sequence, which is incomplete, include stuff by Jena Johnson, The Explosion Band and Joey Robbins Jr.
  8. Baz, R & B Indies has a listing for D Town "Devotional Series" which put out a number of gospel items. The last number listed is 207 Voices of Tabernacle. What's the number of the Cardella de Milo track? No mention of D Town relocating, just the addresses for Detroit.

Me too, I don't have a clue what it's about unless it is in reference to JM. Does JM always refer to stuff as the "holy grail"? I hadn't noticed
  12. One through ebay in 2007 at $100 - no picture sleeve though.

There just that, aren't they? It seems that every day on here, somebody gets upset about somebody's view about some aspect of the scene, whether it be a particular sound, a live performance, a book written about the scene etc, etc. Why is it that if somebody doesn't like what you like, it's taken as if it's a personal criticism of you. I personally don't give a toss if I like something and somebody comes on telling me I'm wrong, or that the thing I like is a pile of sh*t. What difference does it make and why should I believe that somebody's alternative opinion is somehow counter productive. Those that advocate the "if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say it" policy shouldn't post topics or take part within the general rules of the forum if they are upset about alternative views. Personal attacks are obviously unacceptable, in the majority of cases, but I relish a bit of good humoured banter and honest opinions, it's what makes this forum, in particular, tick.

That's the product of a sick mind
  15. Top tune, definitely worthy of more spins. Feel it's better than PJ Proby's version.

  18. Thanks, Pete.
  19. Anybody who can date the introduction to the scene of this momentus piece of music? Sounds like it could have been from the Stafford era, but I wasn't there, so could be way out....
  20. Sounds plausible, same label, but even allowing for a "spoof" it's still shockingly bad.
  21. Ian, truely shocking, easily the worst I've ever heard, but..... Was it ever played out? I cannot possibly imagine anybody having the front to play this, and as you say the other side seems to be from a totally different group.
  22. Celtex was owned by Bill Lasley who had a number of other lables in Chicago as well as other cities, but boba is the man to provide more details, methinks.
  23. Chicago.
  24. According to "Chicago Soul" the Penny lable was active twice, once in 1962 and then again from 1966 to 1970. In the latter period there was a sister lable, Nickel.
  25. Penny lable from Detroit appears to be from 1962, owned by Roquel Davis. Penny lable from Chicago appears to be from around 1968, owned by Maurice Alpert.
