There do seem to be more youngsters on the scene now than about 10-15 years ago. I was the only youngster at the union in nottingham nearly every time. Things do seem to be changing now particulary in the north west manchester area. I used to see the odd few younger soul fans but at the last kings hall I went to in March there were significantly more. They do seem to be moving slowly onto the scene and also starting a few promotions of there own.
  2. there must be a few versions of funky 4 corners. ruchard marks on tuska the only one I have. I always assumed archie bell "tighten up" was the track that kickstarted all this but reading between thew lines that came later ?
  3. you just need a website and a ridiculous amount of time to upload all the music..... john ridleys site is a fantastic example of achiving soul music for future generations so it is not lost.
  4. ray zeiner is fantastic blue eyed soul I included it on the last deep swap on here.
  5. yes indeed written by sam dees and fred knight you can't go wrong. Top double sider..
  6. there are at least 4 good rare soul records on this label.
  7. going off on a tangent on your username...... were polyvelts polular with people who attended soul nights ? aren't the soles a bit to grippy. i've got some oberons (along with lods of other clarks originals) now which are similar but can't imigine i'd be able to dance in them.

  11. nearly all the young (25 to 35 ish) collectors across europe all know each other so there can't be that many around.
  12. When the time comes to sell i'd sell the more expensive things first and end up with a collection of cheap records that I probably wouldn't be able to sell. but hopefully they would owe me nothing by this point.
  13. great stuff as always dave and cheap to levert alliosn flip on the spar 45 is as they say "right for now" its got that gritty funky edge and would sound great in a club IMO
  14. some of the guys crossing over from the funk scene would be a lot mroe appreaciative of a slower track if it has a heavy bassline or a ncie groove. Hip Hop is not fast and that gets people dancing I don't agree it has to be uptempo 100% of the time. I'd say 80 to 90% of the time would still have same effect. there are some mind blowing down and mid tempo tracks that would realy hit the spot for me as long as not too many of them are played.
  15. I had exactly the same conversation at the last soul night I went to. They certainly miss the x factor that you get at a nighter. even the tunes don't take on the same power although that could of been in part the volume and quality of sound system. nothing like a big hall with a good sound system and an up for it crowd. the scene does seem to suffer from a hell of a lot of polotics. I have been guily of having an opinion myself at times.

  19. its a retrospective look at how the soul scene used to be in the 70s. its very good in that respect. is the soul scene all about looking back thast my point ? do we forever have to try and recreate what happened in the past.
  20. that is a total rip off the sad thing is the kids will probably love it but have no idea of its origins.
  21. maybe just sell 1 very rare record and see how it makes you feel ? you might not miss it as much as you think. you won't know until you try...............
