1960's US Radio Stns & Charts
That's wonderful stuff Roburt. Thank you for posting. It's fascinating to see what was being played where and when in the states and link it when I first heard stuff over here. Lots of the slightly more mainstream tunes could be heard on Radio Caroline and Radio Luxemburg in the mid 60's but there's plenty of stuff that took a long time to reach my ears.

Vinyl Buying in 2018 Poll
I've bought more this year so far than I have in the last three. It's been driven by the impending reduction in income due to retirement! Can't quite seem to put the brakes on yet....

Gil Scott-Heron The Bottle Live
I saw Gil many times in the 80's. He was, without a doubt, one of the most consistently good live performers I have ever seen. I had the privilege to see him not long before he died at Manchester Opera house on his I'm New Hear tour. Though clearly unwell, he was fantastic. His between songs patter was back at his laconic, humorous best and though his voice was a wee bit gravelly, it was a joy to hear him perform again. Gil's lost years were a loss for everyone who loves great music. Thanks Peter for sharing this and reminding me of the great man.

Worst /Best rhyme in soul?
Only Smokey could've made this work: You only filled me with despairBy showing love that wasn't thereJust like the desert shows a thirsty manA green oasis where there's only sandYou lured me into something I should have dodgedThe love I saw in you was just a mirage

Strictly does Northern at Blackpool but looks strictly em
I've not watched it. Never seen strictly before; why would I start now? As is my entitlement in the modern idiom, I reserve my right to be outraged and devastated anyway. Also to blame promoters who had sod all to do with it....

UK record shops for old vinyl?
Les Hare's shop, King Bee Records in Chorlton is a proper digger's delight. They have a website too if you're too far for a visit. https://www.kingbeerecords.co.uk/kingbee_records_northern_soul.htm

The Stax Academy UK Tour
Thanks Chalky, the videos are absolutely great. In yours, the mike stands obscure the fact that she gave us all the finger when she realised that we were all recording her doing the chicken. She was in big trouble....

The Stax Academy UK Tour
I was there too and echo every word of Chalky's review. They were simply outstanding! Don't miss an opportunity to see this bunch of highly talented kids. The little lass has a fantastic voice. My daughter was up on the stage doing the Funky Chicken and she, my lad, my wife, my mate and his daughter all agreed it was the best live show we've seen for some time.

John Peel's unknown soul record from 1975?
I also used to tune in to Peel for 15 minutes or so just to see what weird crap he was playing, He would very, very occasionally play something soulful. I remember him playing Don't Think That I am a Violent Guy - Garland Green and Do You Hear Me Baby, Is Your Phone Line Clear - Frankie Vance in close order. Figured Kent had sent him a freebie. Met him at an Eddie Floyd gig in the 80's so he must have had some interest. No clue on the artist......
