  1. Soul Sam was just magic at the Norwich Alldayer in November. Think he knew that he would have to be a little less adventurous than he can be but that mix of rarities and Motown was just perfection. Mark C
  2. Looking at that lot I'm glad I didn't go until 1979. Mark C
  3. Mikkel Rude is no longer operating. You might be lucky and find the odd one but he finished a couple of years ago. Said he was opening again but I've heard nothing. Mark C
  4. What's all this bollocks about Norman Jay getting in quicker at Wigan because of his London accent? Whenever I went it was always a free for all. They even knocked the door down one night due to the "push" (You're not meant to push the bloody doors off!) Mark C😬
  5. When it started Russ did the whole night I think with help from a lad called Ian Fishwick Mark C
  6. I'm still trying to get my head around an "Anniversary" of a club that closed in 1981 Mark C
  7. Liam, that's one of Butchs big sounds at the moment. I might be wrong but think he only knows the artist's identity. Hope you're good. I'm sure it'll get a spin at the 100 club anniversary if you're there! Mark C
  8. Am I imagining it, or was there a patch Wigan at Burnley Cat's Whiskers, Burnley? A proper patch in the same style as the Casino ones Mark C

  10. Peterborough Fleet All-Nighter, October '78. Four hours on the 'National' bus for a 75 mile journey, then another couple of hours before it opened. Hammy in the Long Room playing Susan Coleman "The Age of the Wolf" Mark C
  11. Is that bollocks actually getting played?? Bad enough with Ellie Greenwich, Helen Shapiro etc Mark C
  12. Yeah, wasn't Sharon Finch the one who claimed that she had memorised every NS dance move and therefore was the person who was most capable of giving a demonstration?!!
  13. What is proper dancing? You need to ask Fiona Smith... Mark C
  14. Ady, you're definitely behind the times. That was the previous 100 club Niter info you posted...
  15. Well, I'm from East Anglia (Norfolk), so which category do I fit in? A kind of inbetweener I guess. For me, it's all about keeping an open mind, and I prefer to judge a record by it's soul content these days. I still love to dance to uptempo 60s but cringe at some of that awful pop drivel that was thankfully dropped in the 80s but has reared it's ugly head again with this so called "revival." Rugby on Saturday - Pat Bleasdale and Alan Jenkins. 2 DJS at different ends of the spectrum, but both playing sets of amazing soul records, Alan with his super rare 60s stonkers and Pat's big crossover/modern 45s. Sheer class!! Mark C

Knew I should have bought that reduced price Pretty Green shirt in TK Maxx recently.... Mark C
  17. RW should be ashamed of himself. A group of us from Norwich/Norfolk have been supporting the all-nighters since the late 70s/early 80s (even further back for people like Billy). Who could forget magical nights at Bradford Queens Hall (with Fortnum & Parker double decking), Warrington Parr Hall, the amazing 1.30 til 8am 100 Club Niters etc etc. I would like to have a face to face conversation with RW and tell him of my solo journey to Shotts, Allenton Miners Welfare, epic train journeys to Morecambe Pier and Leicester Oddfellows, Hinckley and the really memorable one when I turned up at Coalville with the niter being cancelled and waiting at Peterborough station in the early hours to catch a train home... Mark C
  18. I'm being greedy coz I'll be doing the Hamburg Weekender as well this weekend, so that means 2 allnighters! Like Russ, it's Niters (some weekenders) or nothing for me. There are also some great evening only events out there but travelling from Norwich it's a long way home at 2am when you're stuck halfway up the M6! (Also some events just down the road from me where fancy dress is encouraged which I happily ignore)
  19. All being well, I shall be at Crossfire on 22nd October. A favourite venue of mine and with Carl Fortnum on the bill it should be a good un. Mark C
  20. It's a good job he didn't hear Rob Smith's sets at Lifeline, he would have been utterly despondent because from what I remember Rob played nothing from the top 500. Mark C
  21. There are folk round my way who go 15 miles down the road with their Niter bags for a 8 til late night. If there WAS a Niter within 15 miles of where I live I'd probably feel cheated that it hadn't taken 4 hours to get there... Mark C
  22. I'm one of Billy's travelling companions. Usually only All-Niters but we've also been up to Grumpy Soul at Runcorn. Have quality - will travel. Living in Norfolk it takes an age to get anywhere but there are a handful of folk round here who usually attend the 100 Club, Rugby and 3 of us heading up to Bury Tomorrow night Mark C
  23. I can remember Nev taking over the decks at Kings Lynn All-Dayer. He had just returned from The States with a new discovery he was raving over, turned out to be Velvet Hammer. His last ever spot was at a St-Ives All-Dayer and the last record he ever played "out" was Love is like an itching in my heart - The Supremes. Sadly, he died a few days later Mark C
  24. This music troubled me and I've been going solidly since 1978... Mark C
