  1. Bizarrely, following the few posts I've made on this thread, I've never actually said whether or not I like it.So, just for the record...............
  2. Oh not another film topic.... where's Jocko?
  3. On this occasion I'll say yes although I have my concerns what you are doing with a grenade. Dave Moore chained up in the cellar I can cope with. The flame thrower, well anyone can make those... watch any Arnold Schwarzenegger movie and... oh shite, I'm on to movies again. As far as chat shows go I hear the replacement for Loose Women is called "Soulgirls"... talk about the latest bootlegs, fashions (and don't for f*cks sake get me started on that one again) and 60's versus 70's. I'll offer my hand out... fool!!! Steve
  4. Jocko, As per your footer, I'm not going to argue with you Steve
  5. All I was trying to say was... someone had an idea for a film and based it around Northern. It's a fictional film and therefore doesn't have to be true to what we know as fact. I was simply trying to suggest that we take it in the context that the writers wanted... it's a fictional film. # Steve
  6. Yes, yes and thrice yes Steve
  7. Yup got ya.
  8. Sorry Mike, maybe you missed the point or maybe I've not put it into context. A thread is fine to say that "Soulboy" the movie is being shown on telly after it's cinema and DVD release. But then the backlash about its content. If I was to say that ... "Psycho" was being shown on TV this weekend and get all sorts of ... the facade of the house didn't look real (which it isn't by the way) etc etc..what I'm trying to say is this is a movie, bad or good, is down to the individual opinion. But it's a movie... watch it and don't associate it with the scene that we know. TV always gets it wrong and one day (with a bit of luck) it may be more consistent with what we know as Northern Soul history. Sorry if I've offended Steve
  9. The thing is.... it was just a film. It wasn't a documentary about how it was. It was a perspective made to appeal to a wider audience than the soul scene. Love, romance, action, a bit of violence, skullduggery.... it was just a film. I'm sorry but I really don't understand the need for a thread such as this. I've not seen it yet but, Ted is the "buzz" movie at the moment. I've seen a "Teddy" at an all dayer... ripped to shreds at the After 8 Club in Grantham way back then... fluff all over the floor. Has that any relevence to Northern Soul... no, because it's just a film, but it could have quite easily been written into the script, and Soulboy should be taken in the same context. Jees Steve
  10. That looks like the vinyl copy because of the ridge in label. Don't think the styrene one has this... wel mine doesn't. Best Steve
  11. Why not tel it like it is..... A soul night, for soulful people, who like soul music. So why not just call it "soul" and add your bit on the end if you must. Or you could just put a board outside the venue saying get inside you b-stards and enjoy what you hear..... Simple Steve
  12. He wont help you...... He died years ago! Apparently.
  13. As far as soul artists go, I just dot think she cuts it for me. Great voice made for a different market which could have been big. . . But not that gritty soul that we love IMHO
  14. From memory John at Soul Bowl had a master tape rather than an acetate if that helps. Steve
  15. It would never have been scheduled for release on RCA (USA)... it was purely Richard's connections with RCA (UK) at the time and the fact that he and John had done a deal to release Grapevine via that outlet. I'm sure had it been put out in the States it would have been at least on something like Pameline or at best on Golden World which would have given Betty the most exposure. Why it wasn't we may never know Steve
  16. As Pete says, John at Soul Bowl, although not necessarily first contact, he got pretty much all the masters off Popcorn, about the same time as as he got the "i am Nothing instr" from a similar batch. I remember well the photos of John and Popcorn on the post holding up the wall of John's barn.... a six foot something Scottish guy with a huge afro with a smallish black guy, (tooke me ages before I put two and two together)... and he used to to take the piss out of me saying I looked like George Michael Steve

  21. Yes Ted... bought Charles Brandy issue (mint apart from sticker mark, see Manships price guide vol 4 as that was the one), Cashmeres (mint, Mr Bicknell commented he had never seen one in such fine condition when I played it at the Wilton back in the early 90's), Celeste Hardy (sat in my box unplayed until I let it go to auction) and something else which was a big un for ... wait for it.......... £90. Oh those good old days... long gone I'm afraid. Steve Steve
  22. Sold my issue to a certain record dealer.... seems to be the only one. Bought it from Dave Knight in York about 87 ish. Steve

Mmmm... so how much for the demo on Mr Manships site I wonder. He always seems to get the big spenders having a browse.
  24. For whoever wanted to know, (sorry didn't take name) the B side is the "Disco Version" Best Steve
  25. Our paths cross again Sir... I'm sure I have the CD but as with pretty much all my stuff it's buried in the loft and may take me an age to find, but I will look when I get a mo. Best Steve H
