  1. We're halfway there at 10 in the darkside mix now......which includes some highly respected collectors and DJs...which promises for some tasty CDs...... Just 10 more places left, so don't miss out......
  2. I hope you're not suggesting that these fancy dress dance things are actually relevant to a progressive music scene ???? You're madder than a sack of cats.........
  3. This is the quality of music that sets standards at all-nighters...and there's nothing wrong, and absoluetly everything right with playing mid-tempo tunes..... There's plenty of room for all tempos, as proven by the quality of tunes played and embraced at Stafford. There's a good few uptempo tunes played out today that wouldn't have cut it a few years ago...plenty completely devoid of soul....
  4. No doubt about it...same group, the vocals are so distinctive...
  5. Barry White in the Trammps....not likely.......... The line up changed between the Buddah and Golden Fleece / PIR days.. Jimmy Ellis, Earl D. Young, Barrington McDonald, Harold Wade, Stanley Wade (the Wade brothers were in the Volcanos and Moods), John Hart, Michael Thompson, Dennis Harris, Ron 'Have Mercy' Kersey, Roger Stevens, John, Davis, Fred Joiner, Robert Upchurch.
  6. Nope...I'd assumed there were no promos.....must be quite rare...
  7. No strictly correct....the Storyteller LP was reissued on CD by Good Time Records in '98, though credited to Bobby Patterson rather than his Bobby Story alter ego...
  8. My Love Is Your Love......played it in every set at Bretby back in the day..... ..very surprised to find that not too many people were aware of it at the time...
  9. ....and another thing Plumby.....whilst discussing your LP only tracks set.....Detroit Emeralds - Long Live The King..... is also on UK Phonogram 45... Never seen an Outer Mongolian 45 release though.....
  10. One hell of a backing track, and whilst vocally it's not great, it's a great all-nighter tune...which to these ears sounds nothing less than a genuine, on the fours, Pocorn Wylie, Detroit... And come on, if anyone was going to 'manufacture' a retro-tune, then it's not hard to find someone that can sing is it.........
  11. Another sad loss from the Memphis real soul side.........but what a legacy... BARBARA BROWN - PITY A FOOL - SOUNDS OF MEMPHIS -
  12. Looking good...... the list of swappers is buliding up nicely, there's 7 of us now. I'd thought about limiting numbers to 20 to keep it manageable.... Right then............anymore for anymore..............
  13. s7oul... who knows a thing or three about quality modern soul, and rhino signed up so far.........so come on don't be shy......
  14. Hey you watch your manners.....show some respect...that's AWESOME beat ballads....
  15. Is that right....did someone really pay 257 quid for a Velvelletes US promo............ ...unbelievable...
  16. Whilst we're discussing alternative versions, as much as I love the Anderson Brothers original, the unissued Mayberry Movement's version takes it to another level....another Kent find...
  17. So you got it then John.........let's have the details already...
  18. There's more than a few on here from the darkside, or at least have one foot in there, so I guess that some could be up for modern soul CD exchange... Anything post 1970, any style.... deep through soulful house, and maybe even some jazz ...any tempo, but let's not make 'em to obvious, some deeper digging would be doing it justice.... Sign up here, and PM me with address details, so's I can compile the darkside swappers......... Just one last thing....please only sign up if you're gonna do the right thing and send your CDs out.....ta.
  19. "Rare Soul" gets my vote Steve, ....has done for a very long time now. The Northern tag defined an underground scene that was cool and different from the mainstream, and one that's spirit was fuelled by unknown, underplayed and fresh music. A million miles from where the vast majority want it to be today, content with reliving their very brief involvement in an original scene. There have been two scenes, Rare and Northern since (before) Wigan closed, and over the years the distance between the two has become wider, to the point where now only the music style is common between the two. Northern dance lessons is just another embarrassment to add to the ever growing list of reasons to avoid eye contact with people you meet who tell you they're into Northern, Motown and Duffy....it's a different world...
  20. Looks like I'm in a minority of one with The Jaedes then....
  21. Yep, the very same.
  22. The 'proper' one also looks like the first vinyl bootleg with the deep depression towards the centre hole. These were passed off as originals in the mid 70's complete with GSF company sleeves.
  23. Is it Brenda Jones - A Big Mistake..... or The Adventurers - I Caught You Cheating... or The Realatives - Free At Last... or Chain of Fortune - Searching For A Brand New Love... or Zuleme - You're So Empty Inside.... Think I'd better stop there....
  24. I think you're all being unfair.....I mean, come on, he's offering free shipping.... BTW Steve...sound clips are on the listing.... Don't get the comments on the New Orleans influences.... ..........but I'm sure if Dave Godin knew this, he would have prized it highly, he had taste..
  25. Plenty..... The Commands immediately jump to mind..
