  1. About 9 years ago I had the pleasure of meting up with Gwen Owens in LA. While we were out and about she said I have to nip into work for a few minuets would you like to meet my boss, why not we said. What a shock it was only Eddie Holland. What a true gentleman, he gave us about an hour and half of his time at the drop of a hat. His walls were covered in gold & platinum discs from his early Motown days up to (what was) present day. On my return I sent him a cd with daydreamer on as he couldn't remember it
  2. Yep it was an impulse thread, as stated behind a painted smile had just been played on radio 2. I just checked the old thread of Sudden Endings and yes it was about the 10th to get mentioned. Maybe crap was a bad word to use but I was having a crap day at work. Prophets - One Gold Piece is a masterpiece from start to end. Sorry Matt no room 101 for that (IMO) The Fantastics - Me and You, Wow you would think you were in a Spanish bar until the most soulful voice you did hear comes in. (who does lead vocals on that) Al Jones - Only your love can save me now. Dont think I knew that one but certainly deserves a place in this category I once seen on SS that the alternative beginning to Romona Collins was a required taste. ( I love them both and would gratefully except either one)
  3. Just heard on Radio 2 - Behind a Painted Smile - Isley Brothers and thought what a strange start to a record, Flute and piano intro sounding pretty crap, then the backing kicks in followed by the magical vocals of the Isley Brothers and within a few seconds you realize what a masterpiece you are listing to Any other crap beginnings spring to mind
  4. When it returns after the fade it sounds like a different recording, as if it were done in a different room. Was this added after the event or are my speakers knackered
  5. No It was owned by Rix/Thomas (no platter)
  6. I once had the pleasure of playing the actual record (unless there's more than one) Both sides had the correct Cairos labels on but oddly one side was guess who loves you
  7. I think there getting common now Heres some I found in Santa Barbara about 6 weeks ago with the Walter and the Admirations as well $278 for the whole set + the book They looked good but felt cheap. First heard this at Gregs in New Jersey when he had the only known copy (didn't like it then and not to fussed now)
  8. Mick Boyle replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
    Mine didn't (now gone)
  9. When I started selling some of my vinyl, I was surprised to be told that mine was a boot. The easy way to tell was how flexible it was, you could nearly bend it in half Mick
  10. Agentsmith I think your comments are 100% spot on. Linda has always been my queen of soul and theirs no rival. But I think she passed at 27 in 1972 I have only mentioned this as you are obviously a big fan.Check it out I may be wrong (wouldent be the 1st Time) I always thought the great My Heart Needs A Break was a 70s track but now I wonder if it was late 60s MIck
  11. Andy wasn't on the trip when the so called Keni Lewis was found though Im sure he would of been the brains behind it. John Poole actually found it and the record went to Rob Thomas (who was present) & Andy Rix as it was there contact In my opinion this was one of the greatest turn ups in Northern soul history and I believe Kitch now owns it As stated it was un-named and I have heard the L J Reynaulds link before. Rob Thomas told me he had tracked down the artist and gave me a Italian name (I since forgot) I think he was pulling my leg. Hopefully Andy can throw some more light on this
  12. You lost me there The one Pete has listed was found in Max Kidds basement and was totally blank It was covered as Keni Lewis due to the shrine connection If you are referring to my spelling of Kenny then I hold spell check responsible for that, as it don't like Keni Not trying to claim that my spelling is any good as in general its rather preposterous.
  13. Anything with Not the marrying kind on (covered up as Kenny Lewis) and the Young Brothers gets my vote

  19. Always said to my wife COME-ON for many reasons, to hurry her up, to persuade her to go somewhere or to encourage her to do something out of the ordinary like the ride on top of the Stratosphere. Always worked and when I heard The Young Brothers at 1:44 say Just Put Your Hand In MIne And Come-on I knew I had found our tune
  20. Monzas - You know you turn me on - Moon VG++ Open to offers Picture of actual record - Not the Youtube clip 8T0kL6uVfjs
  21. Thanks for your help Steve
  22. Rob Thomas had one in his sales box at Mark Hopes 40th (about 12 years ago) at £250 I (fool me) bought Doug Banks for £40.00 Aaaaaggggghhhhhhh
  23. Dont trust acetates since I found two blanks in Johnstown Pennsylvania un-cut and un-written labels Nice to see the acetate sleeve survived the glue lol
  24. Thanks for your replies Im gonna assume that there were a few allniters in the mid 70s that I missed As for the 80s my Mrs was dropping kids everywhere so my soul days were numbed for 20 years Fond memories of the Pally and can remember queuing right down the road round the back and up the other side Rich B - Look forward to your chat (its been a while) Hector obviously did a good job or they wouldn't of used him and he keept the floor going but what he played was way of my level and didn't seem to soulful to me, But we all have our opinions. I had the pleasure to be the last NS DJ to do the Notts Pally finishing off with Andria Henry as Jonah the promoter had order me to carry on at the end and got me a huge bollocking of the pally staff- Nearly lost that title when we had the Little Anthony saga that dint happen Mick
