  1. Sound files for all of the songs are now posted on the Ace/ Kent web site if anyone wants to give them a listen.
  2. I was at a thrift store and saw this bizarre album- Enoch Light presents "Guitar Underground- 7 Great Guitars with the NOW sound". Enoch was a big band leader and then put out a series of "ping pong percussion" albums in the early 60's. I guess after making albums for parents he decided to go for the youth market. The album has remakes of what you would expect- "Georgy Girl", "Up Up And Away", "Don't Sleep In The Subway", "It's Not Unusual" and "Strangers In The Night". And then in the midst of all that , there's a remake of Al Kent's "You've Got To Pay The Price" ?
  3. I see the CD info got posted to the Ace/ Kent site today. Why do some of the songs have *'s? Does that mean stereo versions or something else ??

I've seen a pink label "reissue" but not one with a lookalike label.
  5. I've already seen it and would definitely recommend to anyone else in the States.
  6. Goldies 45 was started sometime in the early 70's to reissue hits from the ABC and Dunhill labels and their subsidiaries.
  7. My copy has the delta # , the MR and the M-318 also so I would think yours is a legit copy.

A vg+ promo sold for $345 USD in May, a copy in "vg but plays better" went for $516 USD in March.
  9. This is only the tip of the iceberg- the 60's were full of Dance crazes. Here's a few more- the Roach, Hitch Hike, Frug, Dip, Continental, Sloop Dance, Cross Fire, Gorilla, Philly Freeze. Cannibal and the Headhunters and Wilson Pickett were exaggerating when they sung "Land Of A Thousand Dances" but I'm sure there are 100's more 60's Dances.
  10. "Controlled By Your Love"/ "Chills And Thrills" was a legitimate release for Helene. But... the record was bootlegged. Originals should be vinyl and have a "DUKOFF" (?) matrix.

Bang which was started in March of 1965 was distributed by Atlantic up until mid 1966. The company's name came from the owners initials B(Bert Berns), A (Ahmet Ertegun) N (Nesuhi Ertegun) G ( Gerald aka Jerry Wexler) . Bert started Shout after he left Atlantic. Bang/ Shout lasted until about 1970. Both companies were revived in '72 or '73. Sometime after the success of Brick's "Dazz", the companies were distributed by Columbia. I have never seen a company sleeve for the 60's Bang and Shout labels.
  12. "Good Bye Cruel Love" was issued promotionally on Motown on some presses as "Good-By Cruel WORLD". I've never seen an issue that way. The Tamla version with globes is a Canadian release.
  13. I'm still not sure Austin Taylor is Ted Taylor. In Joel Selvin's book "Here Comes The Night", there is no mention of Ted Taylor being Austin Taylor. In the liner notes to the Ace CD, "The Bert Berns Story- Twist and Shout Vol. 1", Mick Patrick and Rob Hughes wrote that Austin Taylor is NOT Ted Taylor.
  14. I think its worth about $5-$10 - not sure about the Ted Taylor connection though. There is a Austin Taylor 45 on Sprout Artist that brings a bit more .
  15. I would agree- can't see there being any link to any of the U.S. Festival labels.
  16. The Flying Witch in the logo appears to have been "borrowed" from the one they used in the opening credits of the U.S. TV show "Bewitched" in the early years of the program.
  17. There was another thread on this in February- see "Drill Holes" in the look at your box section.
  18. I think the 3 Bossmen are related to the Bossmen shown on the label in the pic . The 45 was autographed by 3 group members (Chucho(aka Jesse) Perales, Vince Nares and Pete Perez). Jesse was also a member of the 50's group Mando and the Chili Peppers who recorded for Golden Crest.
  19. I just went on the web site a few minutes ago and the site is up and running again !!!!
  20. Sound files for the CD are now posted on the Ace/Kent web site. Some great tunes are on the CD !

The group member's name is Gary Gant. That's the same Gant who co-wrote Kenny Wells' "Isn't It Just A Shame" on New Voice.
  22. According to the liner notes of "The Northern Soul Of Dore" , Smokey and the Fabulous Blades were the Dore house band. Lew Bedell also used The Scooters and the Cruisers as names for the group.
  23. I doubt it - according to the label credits- Pattie Brooks wrote the song.
  24. I've read that Los Bravos had a big impact on Simon. He even had Patti Brooks record it (along with "Popcorn" and "Na Na Hey Kiss Him Goodbye") as part of the "Pop Collage Medley" on her first album.

"Don't Look Back" was issued as the B side to "My Baby" on Gordy #7047.
