  1. Hi Gavin, I and Oxford Soul Club may , in some small way may be able to help you. On the 30th. of September 2013 John made an appearance at a Club in Reading run by Martin Fuggles. Facebook :- https://www.facebook.com/martin.fuggles?fref=ts I have photos of the night and videos ( I don't profess to be the greatest of photographers, but they were taken with a Nikon D7000 so the quality of them is pretty good. I don't do photoshop so they are "as is" of the night) Email me at dcsoxford@aol.com and we can arrange to send these to you if you think they may be of use. To say the night was a treat for us would be an understatement. It was O.S.C.s' own Mazs' birthday and as such, to see one of his favourite singers was a night all of us will remember "For the Rest of My (our) Days". What a beautiful voice and what a beautiful MAN. Spent a long time with the people who attended after the show and could have not been more accommodating. A truly outstanding night !!! Del, Oxford Soul Club. P.S. I put some of the videos on youtube. Try this one.

  3. I bought a couple of Contempo 100 packs advertised in Blues and Soul in the early 70's some known gems but lot of early 60's stuff that you wouldn't give house room at the time, but tastes change over 40 odd years and anyone with abandoned packs should replay them, I had The Falcons - "I'm a Fool" in them and had forgotten it until Maz pulled it out one night. Also I kept the cardboard envelopes that they came in, which were franked with the Contempo logo, Gave them to Jon Willis a couple of years ago because after 45 years he considered them 'Memorabilia' Funny old world,,, Del.
  4. Hi Neil, not only Howard and Agnes, but also Steve and Chris from Folkstone should be coming as well,!! and looking at the posts on here, I make that at least 16 actual and honourary Oxonians, Having missed the last one through feeling R.A.F. I had better hit the floor more to make up for it, (That is until I sit down and fall asleep,,) hahahahahahaha See you and Anne on Saturday, Del. NEXT OXFORD NIGHT - 1st of OCTOBER, 2011 with guest DJ JAMIE TRUNDLE
  5. Just like to reiterate what Maz has said, Got to be the best night for music I've had the pleasure to listen to at Banbury in all the years we have been going. Either that, or I was paying more attention, !!! Mr. Massey got me going with that blinding R&B track (still can't remember the artist) but you know me, not interested in chin-stroking, just dancing,,,,hahahahahha After that it just got better and better. Icing on the cake though was Rob Moss's Nat Nast, (shirt) Just had to drag Maz over to point it out. Of all the nights and venues Maz and I have attended wearing our Nats, it's the first time I have seen another person wearing one. Pity we weren't wearing ours, Just to thank the Boys from Banbury again for a great night and see you soon. Del. NEXT OXFORD NORTHERN NIGHT - 1ST. OF OCTOBER 2011 with guest DJ, JAMIE TRUNDLE
  6. Hey Mel, who are you calling dodgy ???? O.K. so I am. In my younger days before I met the young wife, I had a motto that I would like to share with you :- If it's wet,,,,,,drink it, If it burns,,,,,,,smoke it, And if it hasn't got bo**ocks,,,,,,,f**k it. Worked for me. Are you going to talk to me this Saturday ???? If so, make it early 'cos I'll probably be asleep by 10 hahahahahahaha Love Del.
  7. Don't worry Kat, Oxford Boys ARE going, and we will talk to you, (and about you,) hahahahahahahahahahahaha, I'll tell you the story of the years I was under the doctor, and the fortune my Mum spent dealing with my Inferiority complex !!! Going to be a little tight for me, having to take the youngest Daughter on a Uni visit to Southampton, but I am assured it will be over by 4 o/c. so home by 6, Maz's pick up at 7, Banbury Club 8,,,,,,,,,sorted. See you there, Del. Oxford Soul Club.
  8. I've mugged myself, My daughters' friends loved it and want to come next time, probably even more of them !!!! ah well, even bigger rounds, but it's only money. Del.
  9. One week late, and THREE attempts later, I hate Aol. !! Many thanks to Neil for stepping in to guest for us at short notice, never fails to deliver, (see playlists) Tell Anne next time we will find her a seat away from the entrance, hahahahaha MANY many thanks to Dave for the video, wonderful studies of our regulars at play. My only worry of the evening was that the floor seemed slow to fill, (normally fills early and stays that way) Maybe we are victims of our own 'atmosphere' in that we are all friends that walk through the door. Lots of chatting and socialising, which is great as I am the worst offender. To paraphase Winston Churchill, "Less Jaw Jaw, More Floor Floor",,,,,, Loads of 'Newbies in (I love 'em) all with positive reactions to our scene, (to-days newbies, tomorrows soulies) Including my Daughter and 8 of her Uni friends, and yes I DID buy them all a drink, TWICE what good is money if you can't spend it on those you love. Heartfelt thanks to those who come to our nights and give us the encouragement to put them on. As 'travellers' ourselves we try to create a night that we would wish to go to ourselves, (always open to comments to improve them) Right ! better get off as I am waffling, Roll on October the First for our next Paaarrty !!!! with Jamie Trundle guesting (not that long away) Del. Oxford Soul Club
  10. Hi Jan, Buying or selling ???? We normally sort tables out beforehand if we know sellers are coming, Anybody can come along and sell whatever they like, In fact we feel flattered that dealers would want to and think that we are worth their time. Mind you, we can't promise you will sell anything !!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahaha I have been threatening to sell my Hawaiian shirts, but friends laugh, because they know I give them away !!!!! It seems Richie has been box diving on a spree so he will be sniffing. We can always be reached for anything at: dcsoxford@aol.com We normally are there at approx. 6:30 and the music starts at 6:31 !!!! If you come along, I'll come and have a chat and buy you a beer. TWO days to go,,,,,,,YES !!!!!!! Del.
  11. Maz, are you trying to kill me ?????? Well you are wasting your time, I'm leaving my records to Richie !!!!! Warwick on Friday night, then Oxford night on Saturday night. I'm going to be well and truely f*cked come Sunday. Still, I have been R.A.F. for the last couple of weeks and missed a few 'outings' so I do deserve it !!! Nice ice cold Newcastle Brown please,,,,, and let's PARRRRRRTY !!!!!!!!!!! See you Friday Dave and Chalky, Del.
  12. Here is my address Mel, THE EMPRESS BALLROOM ROVER SOCIAL CLUB Roman Way, (First RIGHT off Horspath Road after leaving Eastern Bypass,) Cowley, OXFORD. OX4 6NL Although I have heard the post party normally happens at the Kazzam Stadium Hotel !!!!!! It's like Chris was saying, It would have been the Northampton W/Ender, and every Oxford night is like a mini reunion including the 3 am pizza. As you can see from the photo, the origin of Oxford and Hawaiian shirts. See you Saturday Love Del. P.S. I think the truer number of my Daughters party is more likely to be 8 as I have just noticed that a couple of her 'guests' are called 'Jon' and 'Richie' Anything for a free drink !!!!! Del.
  13. Easy Chris, Park at my house, bus at end of road, refreshments before and after. Sorted. Del.
  14. I was rough as a badgers bum last week and missed Soulfusion (only time ever since we started going.) but I will be happy again next Saturday with Neil guesting for us, It might prove expensive for me this time as my daughter is bringing a group from Oxford Uni along. Last time I told her I would buy them all a drink, which was O.K. as there was only four of them,,,,,, this time there is suposedly fourteen and she has told them her Dad will buy them a drink !!!! I don't care really, we encourage young people to come along to our nights. The hassle-free friendly atmosphere at Northern nights is sadly missing at this generations pubs and clubs, with bouncers at every turn. Hopefully our regular Uni group will be there as well our 'normal' travellers that think that Oxford is a great place to bring their sons and daughters. We say we open at 7:45 but as always, we are there from 6:30 so anyone is welcome to walk in early. In fact Richie is gagging to start his set asap, so the doors will be open from than !! A week to go and I can't wait. See you there, Del.
