This is the 4th All- Dayer at Leeds Carnegie Stadium and to say there was much trepidation about the turn for this event would be an understatement . But much to everybody's delight the supporters of Charity Soul and general soul loving public of Leeds and beyond did not let us down. The main room was an absolute joy with fantastic spot's by every dj but it would be remiss of me if I didn't mention Fred Benson, Ron Lavender and Mopsey's spots, an absolute delight. The craic within the Main Room was fist rate and I would like to publicly thank all the people who bought bundles of raffle tickets, wish you all could be a winner, but in reality  you are as your contributions go along way to helping cancer research. I wasn't able to visit the other rooms, work commitments (lol), but I'm reliably informed they also had a good turn out. Again a big thanks to Scotty D who stepped in at the last moment and from what I'm lead to believe did a fantastic One and Half hours. Not able to give an amount raised on the night but will post when the final total is checked. Looking forward to 2017 at Headingley where we are going to promote Northern and Motown events which will blow your mind. Stay tuned

Well what a way to go out with the Roots Room as part of Charity Soul, we even managed to accrue some healthy numbers through the night although it was a bit slow to start with, but then again what can you expect with a 4pm start. Many thanks to Eddie Wainwright, . MJ ParryRich BuckleyStuart Wilkinson, Andy Bellwood, Jason ChinnianDaniel Guest and to everyone who came and danced the night away. Something I wanted to do was go out on a high and thats what we did, once again many thanks and hope to see you all at a venue very soon.

A very big thanks to Andy Bellwood as without his help I wouldn't have been able to achieve my ambition in creating what I believe was one of the best Mod events in the North.

However, as Andy has indicated a new partnership has been formed with Myself, Jason Chinnian and Andy Srs Yorkie to create Deccadence Promotions which will be promoting 2 venues next year.

Venue 1 - Manhattan Beat-Club, Harrogate - This will be a 2 room event featuring in the Concert Room resident live band The 5:15's and in the Main Bar area DJ's spinning the best in Mod/Rocksteady sounds inc. Dekka's Roots Room

A most fitting final 'Dekka's Roots Room' me thinks - going out in style with music to suit at the home of Yorkshire Rugby Union , Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire County Cricket - what a setting with the Roots Room one of four, upmarket/plush and overlooking those magnificent sporting arenas - part of the Charity Soul alldayer extravaganza raising money to directly fund Professor Maitland's ground breaking research for a cancer cure at his lab at York Uni.

As with all Dekka's Roots Rooms the music ethos was true to the cause embracing the wide spectrum of 'mod' - British (and French) Beat , Latin, jazz , 5ts & 6ts RnB , popcorn , early reggae,  a touch of northern , 6ts soul etc all on ovo.
It may raise a few eyebrows but the music came first,  the Roots Room wasn't primally about where your mates went to socialise  and drink prices, reciprocal DJ 'arrangements ' or the expectations from some of only wanting to hear well known northern/6ts RnB sounds so with that, massive thanks to Dekka who devoted 2 1/2 years planning , promoting , hosting and spinning the discs at what proved to be , a unique take on 'mod' so much so that was the only remit to the invited guests - 'your choice.....your collection....the music associated with you ... no boundaries ....ovo...' hence the fabulous guests from far and wide with their incredible wide ranging selection of tunes unlikely to heard anyway else ....
Some were packed , some almost empty but unable to fathom why - certainly no conflicting type of event ....so to rewind , out on on high with an appreciative crowd and another selection of top notch guests , take a bow Mik Parry , Eddie Wainwright , Rich Buckley , Stuart Wilkinson and the Flipside Boys .
As to the future ...Dekka will be spinning the tunes as the resident/tour DJ for mod band 5:15s so watch out for dates incl. I understand,   at the new Harrogate and York Beat clubs in 2017.

This event is now over. Look up now to read the latest reviews of this soul event

There's also an on site hotel - the  Headingly Lodge with bedrooms overlooking the iconic Test match and County Cricket ground . Not surprisingly for these Charity Soul events , the hotel quickly sells out so be quick ...

Such a great event and such a wonderful venue. One of those places where you need to clone yourself to be in more than one room at once [ don't know if Professor Maitland can help with that ! ].  Joking apart though it will be a great day for a very worthy cause.  looking forward to the Modern room with Lodgie and the crew and this tune seems so appropriate from the legendary Mr. Dozier. { x-over - steppers - mid tempo chuggers - boogie -up tempo bangers , right through to 2016 new release soul. see ya there.

Following on from Dekka's announcement about the Roots Room he's been in and dated personally and on social media with messages of support, thanks and appreciation for the whole ethos of the Roots Room perhaps best summed up by '......incredible guest djs with amazing collections from the length and breadth of the country playing the widest possible range of mod tunes, to enthusiastic followers wanting something refreshingly different to listen and dance to .....'

Suffice to say it would be lovely to see as many of you possible at Rhinos as it will be more of the same, one last time.

well it's rushing round again the MONSTER day that is  CHARITY SOUL UK  - @ LEEDS RHINOS.  I guess you would term it an all-dayer but it really is a festival of soul . [get those tickets ordered on the above numbers ] the venue is up there with the very best, top class facilities. so good to wander round and just enjoy the vibe and ambiance that this event cooks up , Northern SOUL , Modern Soul  , Roots room ,and of course a great live act . big screen showing these legendary artists that we have worshipped for so many years. of course in the modern room we have the Richard Lodge rosette [for best turned out male and female guest] now I know Toc and Nige have treated this award with some derision in the past but having spoken to some previous winners I know the award is a great source of pride , in the same league as a Bafta [or a Dafta in Lodgies case] an Oscar , an Olympic gold or even your 25 yards swimming badge. get down to the Carnegie Stadium and dance your ass off for a brilliant cause.

Two great years for Dekkas Roots Room, friendships made and featured the very best 'mod' DJs from the length of breath of the U.K., some rammed,  some not so which in terms of quality of the music and guests we've struggled to understand the lower attendances.

Prividged to be involved and so looking forward to this one and with Mik Parry , Eddie Wainright , Rich Buckley etc guesting it's going to be a most fitting finale.

Massive thanks for all those wonderful messages of support, thanks and encouragement that Dekka and I have received for the Roots Room and it's values.

All Modern room DJs just back from Lodgies boot camp , where they were subjected to a Rocky / Spartacus type training experience . everything from chasing chickens to use of the Rhinos tackle dummies has resulted in a very mean and lean DJ team . during the debrief all tune-spinners were made aware of the expectation on them, namely to source and play a cornucopia of quality Modern soul and get that dance floor bangin' for the excellant

supporters of charity soul u.k. we are now in the process of being fitted for the ' team suits' - with Lodgie having final say [not too sure about the flares and wide lapels though]

Time on my hands today. Missus gone to Budapest for the Christmas markets . kids at work / school . getting organised like those Northern / Roots room boys . just phoned the dealer up to order a couple of things , cos lets face it we are junkies of the soul music kind. vinyl and  C.Ds all over the floor . digging into the collection to find some things for another MONSTER- CHARITY SOUL U.K  getdown. it really has been another great year for soul music. brand new cutting edge soul, stuff that's been in the can for years finally coming out and of course so many new mixes / edits giving a new lease of life to some old favourites. As with the other rooms the boys in the Modern room will be leaving no stone unturned to conjure up the very best mix of our genre .  X- OVER , PHILLY ,  70s movers , BOOGIE, STEPPERS , STREET SOUL, Deep ,80s ,JAZZ-FUNK , INDIE SOUL, NEO, SOULFUL HOUSE , four to the floor BANGERS ,GOSPEL.   Look out for artists like-  Kindred , big Lee Dowell ,Lee Fields, Puff Johnson , Trina Broussard, Leroy Allen , Luther Vandross , Sean McCabe, Soulutions, James [D TRAIN ] Williams , Arnold Blair , George Benson, Faye B , keith 'wonderboy' Johnson , Sunburst Band , Ann Nesby .Chris Jasper.  Of course some old favourites , but equally some under the radar , and underplayed tunes yet to have their day. you get the idea , tunes to dig out . any requests for the big day more than welcome. to quote a Northern room staple - GONNA BE A BIG THING [yum yums]

OK this is a clarion call to ALL soulies in GOC, and other extremities, I know it's near christmas and that is a major expenditure for most people, but if you like ATB soul music without any strings attached and where there is no I'm better than you attitude/been to _______/ and can recite top NS 500 in chronological order people, just TRUE peeps who love the craic/to dance/ socialise in surroundings second to none, then Headingley Stadium is the place to be (as a Tiger fan this sticks in my throat but hey ho).

We , the Charity Soul crew AKA, TOC, Tony, Geoff, Nige, Lodgie, BDO'N, Dekka are pulling out all the stops to make this the last a last great CS fundraiser for 2016, we need YOUR support to help fight the terrible disease that is Prostate Cancer and with YOUR bit it DOES make a difference. can't really add much to what Dave has said above , sums everything up. but the remembrance coverage struck a chord on Friday/Sunday . with the coverage during the two minute silence going right round the country from primary schools to the other end of the spectrum, care homes . but in some ways all those super brave people that gave their lives  or were injured in the service of this country knew they were in danger whereas cancer is this ,silent ,insidious disease that has no respect for age or colour and devastates the lives of many . on a personal level my dad was taken by cancer and my mum is currently undergoing treatment so it really is superb to be involved in a MOVEMENT  like this where the money goes exactly where it needs to go [prof. Maitland] and not to some charity CEO on 200k a year. come on down and have a great day with some quality people.

Cancer is a terrible desease that has no scruples , Nothing and nobody is sacred and the devastation it causes is so unfair it's not real , so we have to continue in our battle against this shocking desease and hopefully one day the prof will discover something that stops suffering and gives people their lives back , so if you want somewhere to go on Saturday , come and support our cause at headingley stadium where between 4pm - 12am you won't hear better music anywhere than here , where all the profits will go to fight cancer at the lab , where the proceeds should be going and not elsewhere , so fingers crossed we will see you all there !!

11.30 A.M  in Manchester . [we have our own time zone you know] dark as night and lashing it down - well nothing new there then. but as soon as I drive past that stubborn farmers gaff' in the middle of the M62 [always makes me smile by the way - love to know the story behind that - are all Yorkshiremen that stubborn !] its instant  SUNSHINE , because its a CHARITY SOUL GETDOWN in all its glory.  playing a few tunes at home ,seeing what sounds good for the Modern room , as that other fiery Yorkshireman - Fred Trueman  used to say at the end of the awesome indoor league - I'LL  SI THEE

It was nothing to do with the stubbornness of the farmer it was because of the geology of the land and the cost involved. Being a Yorky I would have thought he would have snapped their hands off for a good pay day :D .

Ok folks not long to go to charitysouls last event of the year and it's looking to be a better. I'm usually on the door all day missing the fun and freezing my wit's it's off.

But for this one tocs letting me loose behind the decks in the main room 4 till 5pm. Only found out earlier I was getting an hour off the door so spent the evening sorting some tunes out.

Think it's gunna be a hour of forgotten oldies,  you know, the ones you say ain't heard in ages so for those in early no requests please i will be in my own world lol.

I think by now you'll know what the day is about & where all profits go but hey why not have a few sherbets, dance your socks off and generally have a great time knowing it's going to a great cause, see you in few hours.

what a great day , big shout to all the organisers who make it all run so seamlessly . all that behind the scenes work from Toc , Nige, Dave, Lodgie, Geoff , Murph , Dekka and the gang, to sort out all those dance floors , DJ rigs , lighting , merchandising , raffles , and god knows what else , TOP , TOP , work. to all those D Js that play the early doors tunes [murph and co.] top people with no egos. something about this venue that just releases those good endorphins. surely one of the best venues anywhere. spent the lions share of my day in the Modern room, and the atmosphere just built and built , with DJs from all over the country and a wonderful selection of music played [surely the best one yet] from Murph right through to Mally the time just flew [ always a good sign ] most impressed with Mr Lodge and his city and guilds in woodwork . the dance floor held up to a real pummelling with no ill effects. I know this was mirrored in the other rooms with smiling faces being the common denominator . hope the day generated a princely sum for the charity. look out for any further dates and get em in your calender . you won't be sorry

Thanks for those kind words, shorty, as you can imagine there were many stressful moments, but these were all nullified when the 'show' started and were quickly forgotten. It was really heart warming to have such good comments made by people from up and down the country during the event. We were well pleased with profits raised which will ALL be donated to Professor Maitland, who attended, and made such a fantastic impression on the people he was introduced to during the evening.

The next all-dayer at Leeds Carnegie is scheduled for Sunday 30th April 2017
