Been around the soul scene since the mid 60’s, Wheel, Torch, Wigan before the all-nighters started, Kelmarsh, Wilby, Bletsoe, Shades, Harboro dj’d in Bedford my home town 60’s/70’s. Helped bring back the Bletsoe memories with reviving it. Still held in Bletsoe but in the Village Hall.

  1. Can't wait Gina a chill out afternoon with some great friends and cracking sounds.
  2. Steven was found dead in March in his Bedford Flat. There will be a funeral at Bedford Crem on the 16th May at 10 am and a gathering of friends at The Wellington Arms in Bedford after the service. Some info on Steven Clarke I got into the Northern scene around the age of 17, First Nighters were ‘Hayden’s Lido’ Bletsoe which was a bit special, it's where I cut my teeth, was a bit young to be on the 'gear' thing, plus had a very watchful elder sister. For me it was all about the music, it's where I first heard ‘A Li'l Lovin Sometime’. Then ‘Up The Junction’ Crewe and ‘The Torch’ Stoke. For my sins I never went to ‘The Casino’ Wigan, I was off the scene married with children by then. I've been back on the scene around 17 years now and must admit it's starting to lose its charm a bit for me, too much politics, too many mediocre events, too much fighting and backbiting. 3. Bedford Rowing Club, Bedford (Steve Crawley, Dave Crawley, John Walton, Neil McCaffrey) Sunday 1970 - 72 for eighteen months also (Tony Warot, Bill Evans) two all-nighters on a Friday
  4. This is all wrong, your using Winnie untimely death for your own means to make a political statement one I’m sure his real friends would not condone.
  5. Agree 100% with you Derek this is not what Winnie’s friends are about it was his love of the music we should be celebrating not his political views.

  10. Dec 11th 2010 Geoff, Hammie and Andy Well done to the guys for putting on a great night of across the board soul music. As usual the Bedford crowd were there to give their support to Bedford's best plus an up and coming newcomer Andy Felts. Let's hope that this becomes a regular venue in 2011 and please open the bar up, the night was reminiscent of the late 60's and early 70's due to a couple or maybe three Oi! Bands being present at the same time but up stairs at another venue. There were Skins, Suedeheads and Punks all over the place and at one point converging into the soul room. The sounds were flowing and the dance floor soon filled up with a constant flow of the magical sounds of that Motown and that Northern beat. It must have been a thrill to some 'Mick, Sandie and Steve' when the talc started to flow and the beat increased into some great stomping sounds this is what it's all about you put your heart and soul into something that's been with you for 40 years your there to enjoy yourselves and without class DJ's it doesn't happen, they didn't play to themselves but to the people. Again and I think I speak for all, well done for putting on a great night and we will all be looking forward to the next event. DaveC and the Bedford Crew
  11. Hi Pete Sorry we didn't make it but we did try, we left Bedford at around 3:30 and after spending 1hr on the A6 getting as far as Deadman's Hill we turned back and decided to go via the A421 / M1 from Bedford getting stuck in traffic first at Marston and then moved about 100yards and sat stationary for another 3hrs before the police closed one lane at Brogbourgh eventually getting to the M1 at about 8.15. The motorway was shut in both directions so we gave up and head home, getting back around 9.30. I'm glad that some people turned out but I know for sure that at least 20 plus did try to get there from Bedford and all had the same problems either by car or the train service which working for First Capital Connect wasn't guaranteed to get you back the last service from London was 10.10 at night. It's nice of you to offer everyone who had brought a ticket an exchange for a ticket at the 10th anniversary next year, and I think and that goes for everyone who didn't make we were all gutted and all hope to see you next year. Well done to all those that made it. KTF Dave and friends PS To all the DJ's and Soulies that over the years have made 'Talk Of The South' the place to be in Bedfordshire Have A Great Christmas
