Well, that was HOT! Gotta say thanks to everyone who came to give the new venue and hopefully our new ‘home’ in LOWTON their support. After the very sad and premature closure of the Civic Hall I can confirm that the future looks bright with a very busy night on Friday with all seats taken and standing room only, so the night was literally HOT!
Loadsa regulars made the effort to come and check out the new venue and it got a big thumbs up from them. There was quite a few new faces in as well with local soul folk and travellers making a great night even better.
The music was excellent with Kev McCue treating us to a selection of soulful platters while the crowd arrived, then Rob Haigh spinning some of the sounds he’s recently acquired from his journeys around the country. Paul Shirley dropped some sublime tracks including Vondells Hey Girl and the Dynamics Don’t Be Afraid To Love Me, being the one for me. Up next was LOWTON regular and popular DJ Les Harrison, Les featured some of the LOWTON favourites like the Supremes and the Four Tops, Sam Dees, Rudy Love and the Hytones. Then came LOWTON main man Kev Murphy, with a great selection of tunes from the ‘rarest of the rare’ box, Don Varner, Edith Brown, Al Williams, the dancers were loving it. Then all that was left to do was LOWTON resident Bob Hinsley to do what he does best, keep that floor full with his inimitable style…If this was the definition of ‘getting off on the good foot’, then it looks like the ‘SPIRIT of LOWTON’ really is set to continue.
