Wow.. Wow !! and thrice WOW !!

WHAT a night !!

Unfortunately, I’m not sufficiently articulate to be able offer up sufficient superlatives to describe just how incredibly amazing it was at last night’s 100 Club Anniversary. Obviously I may be a tad biased, but also honest when I state that it seemed 100% the consensus of all 250 lucky (virtual) ticket holders in attendance - certainly the ones I spoke to, at least

I’ve always loved the Real Deal experience only Ady & Co’s 6T’s promotions can offer, and what better type venue to accentuate that experience than what greets the eager soul reveller at the bottom of those hallowed stairs that lead to the hot, sweaty, ‘Cathedral of Soul’ that is a 100 Club Allnighter. As much as it ticks every single box of being the ‘perfect’ promotion for me, I am seriously guilty of not making the pilgrimage on more of a regular basis – my last visit was either 5 or 6 years ago !! (Also an Anniversary lol.. but it’s NOT just the freebie 45.. honest lol)

I really, REALLY, enjoyed catching up with so many peeps I’ve not seen/spoken to in years.. 10 being the amount where one individual was concerned !! Looking around, it could almost have been a ‘who’s who’ from our ‘Scene’ – so many well-known people in attendance.. far too many to name them all of course (and too few brain cells), but they included the likes of Collectors, Dancers, Record Dealers and Record Label Owners, and good old Soul Music lovers.. Dave Rimmer & Wendy were my ‘record dealer’ neighbours for the night.. Trevor Wright, Tabs, Trev & (son) Brett (from my old town of Huntingdon).. Kitch was there with his Lovely Lady, Franc Giacobbe, Rob Marriott, Dave Golding, Russ Vickers, Smudge, Matt,Tony Smith, Yann, not forgetting young Tom Page, along with his Mother (a pleasure to meet you again, by the way – your mum Tom.. not you lol). Simply.. LOADS & LOADS of fantastic people !! Apologies to all those not gaining mention here but I’m seriously lacking in brain cells today lol

Music-wise.. do I, actually, have to say how good it was ?? Suffice to say, it was the Dog’s Danglies !!

Without fail, any time I do get to the 100 Club I’m GUARANTEED to hear stuff for the first time (for me, at least) that ‘rock’s my boat’.. and the majority of folks for that matter (on ANY night) and last night was no different, with (I’m pretty certain) each of the Soul Spinners for the night managing to provide me with at least one stand-out track from each and every set.. now then, THAT’S what it’s all about in MY book !! A couple in particular that deserve a mention: Tomas played a track by Living Colour on Madhatter, but NOT ‘Thank The Lord’ and of course – I can’t remember (even after asking him).. Joel’s selection of a 45 from Barbados recorded in 1974 (and, I may of imagined it, but sure he told me the artist concerned is still performing – in some pub in Scunthorpe !!) Joel did repeat all the details 3 times, but that’s the only bits I remember lol.. another track making my ears prick up was from the Man Himself, Ady, with a version/different mix of Lou Johnson’s ‘Unsatisfied’ (an acetate ??) – but think I may be confusing myself somehow because I could’ve sworn he said it was Kenny Carter?!? Hopefully Ady, or someone, can confirm for me that dementia is still yet to set in lol

Mick Smith was unable to make the night so, instead, Pete Hulatt substituted – and did Mick proud I might add. Other Deck Controllers included Keith Money; Joel; Tomas; Butch; and Ady.. all combining to make it one very special night, and the success it actually was..

Finally.. Thank You to everyone – the DJ’s and all attendees (and not forgetting the excellent door and bar staff) for proving my saviours, with a totally BRILLIANT and TOTALLY UNFORGETTABLE, night – and for restoring (BIG TIME) my faith and belief in this wonderful music we’ve all been going doolally over for more years than I dare mention.. WHAT a night !!
