WOW!! Just when you thought Ashton Ukrainian Club couldn't get any better, it did!!!

The little club that packs a big Punch!! Some really nice comments last night, that kinda sums the whole ethos of the event. "The right people, right venue and the right music" If we could bottle the atmosphere, it would be worth a fortune, in reality, it's priceless!!

The venue officially starts at 7.30pm and by 7.45pm every table in the main room was taken!!

Musically it was right up there and not a bad record played all night, with the dancefloor full to the last note!!

Quality start as ever from Phil Dunn and a well crafted return set from Les Harrison.

Alex Jones was up next and straight from the off Carol Anderson "taking my mind" set the tone, as we were treated to a musical feast of the rare and WOW not heard that for ages moments!!

Mr Ginger Taylor up next and he didn't disappoint, digging deep into the collection and pulled out some pearls for the crowd, that we don't often get to hear him play. Check out the sample video below from his set(warts and all lol, talking tactics for the mighty reds and my fat finger on the lens lol)

Phil Wainwright smashed it out of the park, with a great mix of seldom played oldies John Harris, Out A Sights "rest of my life" a few left fielders, all gratefully appreciated by the assembled masses!!

Lord Ashton Chris Churm finished a top night off in fine style, as only he can.

Once again it was a team effort and many thanks to the hard working bar staff with a little help with our team of regulars, collecting glasses and last but not least our regular crowd and new attendees from far and wide. You make it all worthwhile, many thanks.

Our next date Saturday March 18th, see you there!!

I think I can speak for my travelling companions, Derek, Janet and Paddy, that the rare soul nights at the Ukrainian club in Ashton-Under-Lyne are not to be missed at almost any cost. And obviously our view is shared by many others as we only just got a seat in the main room at 7.30, it was so busy early on.

I know I repeat myself when I say how good this club is but it is true. Great music played by DJs with good taste and an audience who know and love their music. What could be better?

From the off the music hit the spot, mixing tempos, mainly on what would be called the rare and lesser played side of our music. For me good to hear the 100 Club classic Welcome To Dreamsville shortly after arriving. Looking down my lists of records played I'm not sure who played what.

Tracks included Irma Thomas' What Are You Trying To Do; Percy Wiggins' It Didn't Take Much; Dream Girl; Hush Don't Cry; Breakaway (Linda Lloyd); Never Will I Make My Baby Cry (hadn't heard that for ages, always loved it); Since I Found A Love; Carl Henderson's That Girl; Sufferin' Wrath; Geater Davis' My Love Is So Strong For You; I Got A Good Thing Going; The Feeling I Have; Whisper You Love Me Boy, Quiet Home and many others. You get the picture.

It was very nice to see Ginger Taylor on the decks there playing some very nice rare tracks.

All too soon the night ended and it was time to go home although you can add at least 15 minutes to say farewell to friends.

Thanks to the promoters of this event, and of course all the DJs. The club staff do an excellent job behind a very busy bar; and of course to my friends for taking me there and for their company.

Shaun Gibbons messaged me today and asked me to post a review on his behalf as a self confessed technophobe 😂

Last night without a doubt,  has to be one of the best nights I've ever  had at the Ukraine club, well done  to Chris and all the guys outstanding. Ps keep it up (please) Shaun Gibbons.

yes...it's come a long way since my first visit when it was at The Masonic in Dukinfield. Brian and the 2 x Chris's ( although only one Chris currently) have done a wonderful job.
