I had a pretty good weekend at Cleethorpes apart from some unknown assailant beating me up !

There must be someone out who knows their mate, friend of a mate who tried to punch 7 bells out of me.

I'd just like to know why ?

I know I can be an arrogant arse sometimes but I dont remember chatting up someones bird, spilling someones pint or treading on anyones foot on the dancefloor !

Maybe I sold one too many scratchy record !

I hope it was a case of mistaken identity or should I just keep watching my back from now on !

Jeeks Rob, sorry to hear that mate, hope you're ok? Never thought, ever ! that there would be fisties on the Soul scene. Always found it very friendly and never intimidating. Had manys a beating whilst on the Mod scene years ago, but that was expected to some extent, sorta came as part n' parcel to expect kickings/chases from Skins or Greasers, but not on the Soul scene. Pretty disconcerting to hear of this mate. Prob some drunken arse , theres loads

about, sorry to say, on the soul scene now. Never thought I'd see or hear of a punch up or digging at a Soul event. Bad news indeed. Still hope alls ok mate, put it down to experiance.

I think it's the first one in 13 events, excluding the domestic when a small girl layed into her bigger geezer, so we'll leave it at that.

Hi Rob,

Good to see you on Soul Source. That's a shocker and not the act of a friend :angry: When you say 'beat you up' how severe was this, light scuffle, heavy blows? Were you badly hurt? Unacceptable this, last time I witnessed such unpleasantness was at the Plinston, but that was a couple of non soul fans that wouldn't leave the floor with their drinks. A dude such as yourself, shouldn't be on the receiving end of this kind of BS.

He's okay, except for a few bruises and a black eye.

Apparently this guy punched him in the eye as he was leaving the venue at 7.55 a.m. on the Sunday morning, then rained a few blows on him, and gave him a bit of a kicking when he was down, before being hauled off by the bouncers and then dissappearing.

There was only a few people left in the venue by this time in the morning, so no-one recognised him.

I remember having a good hiding in Great Yarmouth Mod Rally many years ago by a bunch of locals...guess who I was walking along with at the time.....yep..Rob Messer......he ain't a lucky charm at the best of times

At one point I lifted my head up during a good kicking off a group of local morons, to see 4 lads holding Rob mid air by each arm and leg, trying to swing him head first into a wall.....funny thinking about it now, but not so at the time...

As for the Jesse Davis cover up - was this the one Des Parker was spinning a few months back....if so, I know what it is....

The other geezer who thought he was threatened could have been the knobhead from Hinckley who'd seriously overdone it and thought there were thirty people in the modern room with bottles after him, then forty in the main room. So he stood at the entrance inbetween. Then he brought the cops down who luckily realised he was mental. He won't be coming again!

Mountain out of a molehill,this should,nt be the talkin point of a very well run and enjoyable weekend,saw rob just after the event and again sunday afternoon there was,nt a mark on him let alone a black eye.I,m sure culprit will turn up and when he does i for one will bar him from all our events,but hope people wont only talk about a 10 second incident as oppossed to 3 days of a superb event.

No you're arse over tit. There were two totally separate incidents with different people. The smashed geezer went into Cleethorpes, told the cops everyone was trying to beat him up. When they got there they realised he was nuts and left him there. The punch happened two hours later by a completely different person

I'd like to point out that I was threatened too, and in a very scary manner.

There I was off my face and happily shouting out bingo numbers to a completely disinterested 500 or so people (excluding Jet, Jenny and the Bingo Crew natch), when a 'well known face' on the scene approached me and snarled menacingly in my ear "For God's sake F*&K off man!"

Well, naturally I let it go then but it's stored in the old memory banks... You'll get yours Croasdell!

Well I would just like to say thanks to all who took time to reply / chat about this. I'm perfectly fine now - just a bit of a dented ego I guess. I dont often post things on soul source so it took me a few days to even find where it had been posted (ie just now !!) I was away last week. Never realised I was so appreciated. Brings a tear to my blackened eye ! Thank you all darlings !
