45cellar
Hmmm interesting.....especially as the UK re issue has her credited correctly Many Thanks for posting these scans, first time I've seen that release. Notice they have followed the Same Throughout The Years A & B. Instrumental (HAMMOND ORGAN) A Side = InstrumentalB Side = Vocal Just found this Scan on the Internet, a French Press Apparently. Also has the correct credit on the Picture Cover. Edited September 17, 2009 by 45cellar Link to comment Social source share
Jerry Hipkiss
Interesting scans guys - the instr was part of my youth, but at the time I never knew who the vocalist was - it was the late Chris Savory who finally came to my rescue! Roburt
Seems that when the 45 was originally pressed up by Atlantic in the US, the Ann Mason side was intended as the A side (A-9423 as opposed to A-9424 for the instro side) and this was the side reviewed in the music press ........... It was out there in mid to late November 1965 and made it into the US charts despite strong competition at that time (from Baby Washington, Sam & Dave, Drifters, Patti LaBelle & Bluebelles, Barbara Lynn, Mary Wells, Joe Hinton, Etta James & Sugar Pie Desanto, Knight Brothers + the Dolls, Little Hank, Billy Thompson, Lattimore Brown, the Carltons, Wayne Cochran, Johnny Daye, Dalton Boys, Montereys & Cookie Jackson). Not too many weeks would have so many strong soul 45 releases as that week had. Link to comment Social source share
Roburt
Seems that Little Mac was one Bill McDougal ........ .... AND ... he made some other records (see below) ........... ........... info on Atlantic released tracks ......... ANN MASON WITH LITTLE MAC & THE BOSS SOUNDS C/W LITTLE MAC & THE BOSS SOUNDS Ann Mason on band track plus Bill McDougal (organ solo) Recorded at Ranstoff, North Carolina, October 1965 (though I can't find a place in N Carolina called Ranstoff !!) A-9423 You Can't Love Me (In The Midnight Hour) - Atlantic 2309 A A-9424 …........ In The Midnight Hour —- Atlantic 2309 B AGAIN... from the above it seems that the vocal side was meant to be the A side initially . Another Bill McDougal 45 ...... 45cellar
Excellent Information, Many Thanks. ANN MASON missed out in the USA and the UK. Unusual for the Vocal to be the B Side and Instrumental the A, so it would appear that it was switched at the last minute. Totally missed on the Credits in the UK. Printing error?, we may never know. Roburt
Seems that Little Mac aka Bill McDougal was blind and from Greensboro ..... He also recorded as Willy McDougal and Billy Mack ................ The Billy Mack tracks feature great organ playing, so no doubt its 'Little Mac' on the keys as well as on vocals on those cuts. ...... see ....... https://www.sirshambl..._mack/index.php ... and / or .... this site .......... https://www.carolinasoul.org/site/ Edited January 3, 2013 by Roburt Link to comment Social source share
Roburt
Seems that Billy Mack's recordings had staying power ...... His track "I Couldn't Sleep" which initially appeared in the 60's on Tina Records of Greensboro was put out again in Feb 1971 on the Miss Betty label.
