Guest
it was a welcome to return to the decks for me at sussex soul club...having missed the last one due to djing at a soulforheroes event... carol and i arrived with ten minutes to spare and after unloading the car and saying hello to graham and steve.. plus partners i put my first tune on the decks...id decided to play mainly 7ts tunes as i was on early doors...7.30 till 8pm the 30 minutes came and went and graham took over from me......ppl were slowly finding there seats and unloading there food and drinks bags....kev moore was up next and by now there were a few bodies on the floor and was how it stayed for pretty much the whole night...steve followed kev and then it was time for my 45 minute set..... after surveying the crowd i thought id start with a mixture of classics and rnb to get the floor full...it seemed to work well i played as many requests as i could and ended up with a few more 7ts tunes i think this was sussex soul clubs largest crowd and they had come to dance....floorfillers were the order of the night for graham too and it was left foe guest dj kev moore to test the waters with the underplayed toons...a good proportion of the crowd seemed to enjoy hearing some new stuff but imvho not everyone was of the same opinion.... promoter steve mcmahon rounded of the night with a varied mixture of dancefloor frienly tunes from across the decades.... there were a few teething problems with the sound sytem...mainly down to new equipment and loosewires.....causing feedback and the norman collier effect with the mike it just goes to show that steve and graham did the right thing by having plenty of spare leeds..a mixer and assorted stylus by the last two sets the equipment was sound great....although slightly annoying i really dont think it spilt the night to the point where ppl wouldnt come back..... nice as always to see new faces and ppl that had travelled a fair distance to get there...a big hello to the moore clan.. theresa and the sarf london posse..wigan brian..keith and maxine..shay and jackie...steve and chilly...tony and di..dave and sue and countless others including linda and james i have to say i really enjoyed last night and judging by the dancefloor reaction and the smiles on ppls faces i think everyone did next night is april the 3rd with dave morris...b/mouth uni front man as the special guest play list and you-tubes to follow moldie Link to comment

Guest newman
Just to reiterate Julie, Moldie and Steve, a big thank you to all who supported us on Saturday making it a fantastic night, too many names to mention and if I miss somebody I'll be in trouble, I know many travelled some distance The turnout was amazing along with the atmosphere and music, it's always nice to meet up with friends and to see so many new faces - thanks for all the positive feedback. A special thank you to Kev Moore topping the bill and bringing something different and refreshing to the night - two superb sets Kev! We'll be back on April 3rd when Dave Morris, Bournemouth Uni, will be the special guest dj. Link to comment
Theresa
Well, the 'Scout Hut' was rockin on Saturday night, and no mistake It was my first trip down to Patching, although fellow SLM member Roz had already been recently and highly recommended it. Myself & Long Ditton Lady Lucy ventured the short distance down from Surrey, meeting our Sussex compadres Julia & Debs there. We set off early, getting our drink supplies on the way. Note to self - bring cups next time as swigging wine from the bottle does not befit nicely brought up young ladies from Surrey Being Logic Woman & map reader extraordinaire with photographic memory, I declined the offer of a satnav from Lucy. Big mistake! We overshot, and after a short(ish) time spent circling the area, we finally descended on Patching Village Hall at 8.30 with Julia guiding us in using semaphore & smoke signals. The room filled up almost straight away, with a nice mix of locals, travellers and a fair smattering of complete newcomers, who were bowled over with the friendliness of it all. Lovely to see the Attrills who we don't bump into often enough these days and to meet the lovely Julie Moore. Also great to see brother Kev & hear him play some quality tunes - by the way Kev, hadn't met your beautiful young wife before - nice work! Truly across the board tunes, with plenty of 60s & 70s classics, and even some banging soulful dance to make me sweat. Thanks for the dedications Moldie, though I'm not sure 'This is for Mrs Price, aged 42' was strictly necessary Superb venue with just the right size crowd (all of whom danced) and a fabulous dancefloor. Well done Steve and co. We will be back, mob-handed. It even made a nice change for me to be home and in my bed asleep for 2am on a Saturday night Some Baden-Powell themed pics are up on the gallery... Link to comment

Luckily I had Julia with me who has been before, so no problem finding the venue. You guys have a great soul do going on there and I will be back for more - great taking your own booze, as it makes it a cheap night on the drink front. Lovely meeting you Julie and your fellow soul'ers who were up dancing most of the night - don't think your bums stayed on the seat for longer than 5 minutes!!! Dib Dib.... Dob Dob..... Charmain
A rare opportunity of an available Saturday evening presented itself to Steve and I, so we made full use of this by travelling down the South coast to Patching, twelve miles from Brighton and one and a half hours drive from our home town of Bournemouth with a couple of our friends. What a worthwhile journey it was to meet fellow soul night promotors who were very welcoming. From start to finish the music was spot on and pleased everyone and it was great to catch up with our friends who live locally and old friends from Steve's original home town of Burnley. If the Saturday night availability comes up again, without question we would attend another event. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves thanks to the Sussex Soul Club team. Guest stevemcmahon
I was @a family funeral yesterday so, was unable to respond personally & thank everyone on this thread for their kind words of support for last Saturday but after reading such fantastic comments & talk of the future, it would be misleading of me not to let you all know the following; I can no longer continue to be a part of the Sussex Soul Club. It would not be my style to publicly declare my reasons for having to make such a harsh decision - all I will say on here is that it is now impossible for me to contribute or participate any further with this club. Even though it was quite possibly the best night there had been since it began, I shall not be posting my playlists or have anything further to do with the promotion of this club. I do intend to move onwards & upwards & already have plans to re-form with a new & progressive Soul event and will disclose the details of this to you all, nearer the time. All that is left for me to say is a HUGE thank you to all my friends & fellow Soulies who have made my time @SSC so enjoyable. As you all must know, your support was never taken for granted & had always been genuinely appreciated by me. I will be in touch with you all again in the very near future to welcome you all to the new venture I have in the works.. Steve McMahon Link to comment
