I watched, with a dropped jaw, the dancing at Blackpool Mecca and at Diamond Lil's on the Pleasure Beach under 16's dance on a Sunday whilst staying at my Uncle Denis's house.

My cousins Charlie and Joey Powel had a mountain of records and Charlie's girlfriend would show me how she danced at Wigan.

As soon as I was back at home in Beverley and in the safety of my bedroom, I would practice my dancing in-between my mum screaming at me that the plaster would come down.

My first time onto the dance floor would be at "Wally's" at the top of Anlaby Road in Hull, 'Wally's" was a converted cinema and it had a sprung wooden floor and on a Sunday tea time it had an under 16's disco with an hour or so of Northernsoul.

The dance I wanted to master was stomping! The track I was waiting for was "Peggy Scott - You Got It All".

Not a " Northern " tune , but my first dancefloor gyrations were to " Take Five " by Dave Brubeck .......

My first Soul dancing started in the early 80s....................I think my first track was The Ivories-Please Stay

But i have been dancing since i was 5 years old.....................Ballroom, Latin, Jazz, Lindy & Jive, Tap & Ballet....................always loved dancing

But frankly, I'm so embarrassed by the memory - even 40-odd years later - that my bum is squeaking while I'm typing this, so the secret will die with me and those who may still have it indelibly etched into their individual and collective memories.

Thankfully that includes nobody on here as far as I am aware...

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the record in question, only my unco-ordinated attempts to dance to it were at fault...

...the only clue I'll give is that it was a Motown recording. That narrows it down to a few hundred, I suppose....

The Pyramids - Telstar.

The 1st time I can remember dancing was at the Jr School Christmas party.

I won the Twisting competition (age 10) lol.

The 1st time at a N.S. venue, Blackpool Mecca Oct 1971.

Louise's 1st time at N.S. venue, Burnley Bankhall Miners 1985 or 86.

In about 1970 ish, at Southport, I sneaked out of boys brigade, hid my uniform, and went down the road to St Patricks youth club disco. The first record I remember dancing to was "Third Finger Left Hand".

Probably either the snake, nine times out of ten or Landslide at Knowle youth club, To be honest I cant remember which....

First proper dance at a proper soul club, different matter! the Old Vic in Wolverhampton, The precisions - If this is Love, before then i had not tried to do the proper footwork, but I distinctly remember coming away thinking I'd done a good job of it... laughs

Got the record on the nite also, £4 from Richard Domar!! bargain....

Can't remember, but it would most probably have been a Motown track, Baby Love, Jimmy Mack, I can't help myself, Get Ready or similar.
