Hi ,

Just a couple of questions re above , I have only collected albums , and this is one i've been after for a while , so .....

I was aware of both of these , Uk Brunswick being the official BUT unreleased lp and the Decca test press BUT never heard of or seen the Bell acetate before,

What's the story re the Bell acetate / and price wise why nearly twice as much as the other two ?

From reading a lot of your postings over the past couple of years or so it was obvious to me you are a serious album collector and know your stuff (for which I respect you 100%) - but must say obviously only to a degree, based on your 'value'. From your comments it is clear you do not own a copy (in any format). My sale price is based on my experience of the LP, in general, over the past few years - I certainly don't 'pluck' prices out of the air, but research as much as possible before I post any sales.

I don't know where you get, or on what basis you assume, your value of my item - as you don't quantify your evaluation. And must say, with the greatest of respect, I don't really appreciate the fact that every prospective buyer for this acetate will now automatically be put off (purely by association with your comments) and think I'm out to rip them off after reading your insensitive post. Whereas I personally feel a simple pm to me could have answered your question without any impact to a potential sale on here. Never mind - it's done now.

Concerning the 'story' of my item, I think an article produced by John Manship - at the time he was retailing the four track EP's - is best suited to answering that question in full for you.. I don't know if there has ever been a topic thread on here in relation to that story but perhaps some kind, knowledgeable Soul on here could provide a link if there was - or a search of the forums might flag it up.

I'll finish by saying how appreciative I am of the scans you posted - particularly the Decca Test Pressing as I hadn't seen it before.. Nice one. :wicked:

Never seen that scan before. BIEM and GEMA on the right hand side indicate the album was meant to come out in Germany and France as well.

It indicates no such thing - it just means that at least one of the songs would have been cleared for royalty collection through BIEM and GEMA, rather than through MCPS - probably the version of the standard "Love Is a Many Splendoured Thing".

Honestly, some of the crap that people come out with on this forum at times is almost too amazing for words.. .

...although I have no doubt that, had it been released in the UK, it would have come out in other European territories

Hi,

Don't want to interfere but...I think the scans of this album are on JM's Rarest of the Rare section.

https://www.raresoulm...of-the-rare/L/1

I seem to remember this item on the JM auction (4 or 5 years ago?). ALso remember another member on here (not Johnny F!) paying about £1k for the Black label Brunswick one pictured above. This was also on th JM auction about a year (?) after the Bell one. So if anyone is after the album, the price to me seems in line with previous auctions.

No offence intended to any of the poster's on here. Just hope that a 3rd party, independent comment might help.

All the best.

Johnny ,

Yes , quite happy to say I should of pm'd you personally with my query , which was based purely on the sales of the album through popsike , hindsight is a wonderful thing and clearly on this one I f +++++d up !!

If I have sabotaged your sale then I apologise profusely , that was not my intent but purely to see if one copy was worth more than another , I did make a flippant comment of your sale price being plucked from mid air which was purely based again on recent sales ,my nievity , and my lack of knowledge of the item for sale in question,

Apologies again ,

I didn't think, for one moment, that your post contained any malice or implied intent - and my level of respect for you is exactly the same - I wished purely to point out the potential psychological knock-on effect where potential buyers are concerned. Although to counter that same point - if someone did want the item they would likely formulate for themselves as to whether or not the price asked was one they would be happy to pay. Particularly true with 'specialist' items such as this..

I do commend you though for your above post and appreciate greatly - though it wasn't required - the apology you include. I'm just please you didn't take offence at my original reply as, again, that was not my intention..

In summary, I think the site itself should be commended for a job well done - we both are more educated now than previously, so all good stuff methinks..

Thank you for posting the above facts - which are actually some of the factors I used in formulating my sales price. As a point of interest I'm of the belief the Brunswick copy went to a Midlands based collector - for £980.

I feel it's very useful to have independant factual reference(s) to items where there are perhaps differences of opinion as to current or realistic values of certain items. Nice one..

PS. I still have a copy of a sales list, from my mate Kyp 'The Faith' Highbury, where he lists a copy of the brunswick LP for sale, stating.. No Cover - don't think it came with one.. £25 !!

I will never forget turning down a copy about 1978 for £20 as it was rough - thought i'd find a better one!! Only ever seen another copy & that was the one that JM sold for about £1000 a while ago, which belonged to a friend of mine - . & Tony Rounce.

Looks like a fair price for this one!!

Alan
