" Another Night Like This " by John Godber .

I received the new brochure today for the forthcoming season at Rotherham Civic Theatre , and the above play is on in February .

The publicity blurb states that it concerns a middle aged , middle class chap who gets in two decorators ...... who are party animals with a devotion to Northern Soul music .

Has anyone seen this play , or know anything about it ?

Haven't seen it, but John Godber is a well known and well respected playwright, most well known for Bouncers and Shakers in the 70s and 80s.

First performed in 2000 according to his website. I think the association with northern soul is incidental.

He used to write for Grange Hill as well

It is an absolutely hilarious play and is centred around the decorators' love for Northern Soul. You should go and see it!!

Are you by any chance in temporary accommodation in Rotheram?

I saw this at the little theater Middlesbrough about ten or more years ago. They had local actors and mentioned local nights and faces. It was very good.

I saw this play at Rotherham Civic Theatre about 10 years ago - absolutely hilarious! It's written in the usual high standards you can expect from John Godber.

If you get chance to go and see it, definately worth a trip to the theatre.

Gr8 choice by Rotherham Players - gr8 play - well worth a viewing

Great play - saw it at Derby Playhouse first time round, and to my surprise realised John Godber was sat behind me - had a chat during interval about the play altho' he played down the Northern thing

Saw this post Saturday night, the night after it finished, does anyone know if it is on again or if its on anywhere else?

Cheers John

Top playwright

Well known locally and nationally

I remember the play from some Years ago...in fact remember DJ ing at Scarborough Spa...think it was an allnighter when he turned up with some of the dancers/actors who were to appear in the play

Would certainly recommend it...but don't take it seriously or get all upset if it's not historically spot on...not meant to be

I've lived in Rotherham most of my life. But I did have a valid reason for particularly recommending this play...
