Recently a thread on OVO playlists was prematurely in my opinion closed.Personally i love these kind of threads and after all it is LOOK IN YOUR BOX forum. So thought i would try to inject new life into it using a slightly different approach.Right the Task is to name a playlist of 15 records that you would spin for the dancefloor.Try to list under played stuff or favourites that dont get played anymore and avoid the same old oldies

1/ From your own collection

2/ Original labels

3/ Uptempo Dancers only

4/ Priced at around £50 from fair dealers

Thats it to start i have posted a few lets hope the thread gets some positive posts like it used to be and lets talk about records

  • The main principle i was after was the £50 or under, uptempo, and underplayed. However prices do fluctuate and lots of records that i have bought recently for £40-£50 are on some big dealers

RE: 14/ Betty Harris and Lee Dorsey - love lots of loving (Sansu)

This was recently mentioned in the 'UK Little Labels' thread (it was on Buffalo here) & a youtube clip of it posted. Had the UK 45 for over 40 yrs now (not played it in years) ... but it does sound well good now.

yeah - i love it now, but when i first bought it, it didn't "click" with me. i burn all my new purchases to mp3s, and then randomly heard it on my iPod at the gym like 3 months later and was like "wow!"

i love when that happens!

Some Nice stuff there Waggy, even though most are a bit mid tempo.Love the Naomi Wilson but last two i've seen for sale were at £100 .Original Larks would be hard to find for less than £50 also. But some great nighter sounds there

I just sold a Naomi Wilson in a soul pack for 100 quid Have look Patto

In the pack was A Pye demo of james brown Money wont change me that recently went on Manships for 90 quid and I cannot remeber the what else was in it.

Heres the link at the top of the page:

£20 quid is what I was asking for Naomi Wilson so I dont get the £100 quid jobs

Its a Great record that just doesn't seem to break through, the Flip is great too.First one i bought was £80 which i sold then i bagged a copy early this year for £60.Prices are all over the place at the Mo as you say,the top dealers are still asking top dollar though that never changes

Actually Patto IM more of a realist - Already had a German James Brown so I thought what the hell and the others were doubles and no use sitting on a shelf!

ok - i am hijacking this thread (sort of). i will be doing a small slot at a northern/club soul night in England next saturday, and it will be my first time DJing in england. i put this post up on the "all about soul" section, but got no responses. i am packing up my bags today, and need to choose my records.

the person who is having me spin said "play some newies, but also play stuff people know". i want to play to the crowd/event (in a town called barrow) - but honestly don't know what records are commonly known over there... will people know these songs? are they played to death? any comments or advice? i am friends with they guy running it and don't want to let the side down! these were all less than $50, so i guess these count! please help if you see this!

some things i am not sure about:

-dionne warwick - you can have him (scepter)

-leroy horne - don't come back (pompeii)

-darlettes - til i fell in love (shell)

-betty harris - trouble with my lover (sansu)

-teacho/students chills and fever (okeh)

-della reese - never my love (abc)

-jennie rae - to love (mgm)

-diamond joe - wait a minute baby (sansu)

-honey duo twins - comeback baby (yambo)

-lullabyes - you touch me (dimension)

-dean francis - tippin (hillside)

...and two gospel numbers...

-gospel ambassadors - cleansing power (halo)

-alston singers - i'm holding on (cobra)

I would class these as mod club soul sounds..not really northern.

that's fine. the flyer says "northern, club soul, and motown". i am bringing (what i think) are more "normal" northern songs as well to balance out - like: -

- chalfontes - he loves me

- opals - i'm so afraid

- dee dee warwick - don't ever give up on me

- lovells - my time to cry

- alder ray - my heart is in danger

- irma and fascinators - lost love/just a feeling (can't decide which side to play!)

- jim & lee - let go baby

....are these considered northern?
