its more to do with not having a clue what you are talking about. i have tried patiently on many occasions to shed some light on your threads. i have also asked kindly for you to try and ensure others can understand.

to me this thread looked like lots of your other threads and i couldnt be arsed to rescue it on this occasion.

i suggest you try again cos i aint got a clue. neither did pikeys dog and dave abbott.

I can't answer your question Steve because I don't know but the Picture sleeves always look nice I have a friend who trys to collect picture sleeves for her records

A mate of mine is doing some research on a record that she has ... but wants the sleeve to go with it and can't find a sleeve ... is that what you mean? My ex used to be very particular about having records in the correct sleeve also, he would not just put a bit of vinyl in a bit of cardboard ... it had to be the exact sleeve the record should have been in .... lots of records lying all over place NOT IN SLEEVES he just couldn't bring himself to put it in anything less than the original item ... SAD GIT!!

Any time Stevie ... I really don't know as I don't really collect any of them now I know my mate says she's having a real problem tracking down the sleeve ... so in her case obviously the sleeve is more rare ... don't know what record it is she's doing though.

I would imagine most record sleeves would be rarer than the records.. more easily lost and less likely to be looked after etc?

gammarra the moods on pat bradys list crap record, not rare record but rare picture sleeve, sci fi /horror geeks take note,soul time shirley ellis currently on ebay (nice!), once had a picture cover to a canadian issue of too late larry williams etc, 45 survived but picture cover disintigrated over the years, and back to an ol old thread, len barry lp with i,ll always need you on it, has anyone ever seen the cover

The Sam Fletcher Pic Sleave was only on the demo not the issue so I guess that has added to it's scarcity.

I think the Sam Fletcher is just a promo art sleeve featuring upcoming titles including the latest Beatles 45

Yes Mace, I seem to recall you made a flyer out of it for one of the R & S Society bashes many many moons ago!!! It was the Thom McCann competition - the punters had to complete "I Like to walk soft because....."

I wonder what the winning entry was??!

I've also got a picture sleeve of Roy C "Gone Gone" on original German Metronome which I picked up for a couple of marks whilst inter-railing in Germany as a student . Will dig out later and put a scan up. Anyone else seen this??

It depends which one you want, outside the SOUL arena, a record without it's original picture sleeve is worth a lot less than having it with the sleeve.

Their are Exceptions of course:

UK Motown EP's double in value if you have both. I 've sold mint Motown EP sleeves which I came across for good price to collector so he could match it up with his sleeveless record.

Most of the copies I saw of Soft Walking had a sleeve years ago, infact saw fewere without. promotion for shoes if I remember rightly.

But as already mentioned sleeves get damaged and lost over time so would say with the sleeve rarer in most cases.

PIR different to the German one.

German has same cover as the LP with 5 band members

Spanish has totally different pic with 8 band members.

I don't know if I'm missing the point o this thread but any picture sleeve will automatically be rarer than the vinyl unless every copy was issued in said bag?

ie - 1000 copies pressed, 1000 picture sleeves, both are as rare as each other when released.

100 copies pressed, 100 picture sleeves, then the sleeve is instantly 10 times as rare as the vinyl.

Naturally this doesn't take into account wear and tear down the years, but I'd guess that sleeves die a long time before the vinyl?

Obviously company bags aren't as rare if used on multiple releases?

gasher---over the last 6 years the liz verdi sleeves have turned up minus the record--first one i bought was 50 pounds--gave it to a mate as a gift--next one cost me 30 pounds--sold it for 40 pounds and then i lbought three more for 40 pounds each kept one sold the other two---

Hi Jo I know you are a big collector of records with a picture sleeve.....I do not particularily go out of my way to chase sleeves down ,but always nice to have the original sleeve if with the tune.I don't know anything about the Greek -Italian-Dutch P.S. releases,please enlighten ATb Steve

Not neccasarily. If I took my drum machine and harmonica into a recording studio, recorded a tune, pressed 100 copies then that would be rare but I'd be lucky to give them away? Before anyone says that there is a market for most any kind of recording, I'd just like to point out you haven't heard me play....

To use a better example, i have a jukebox version of The Specials 'Too Much Too Young', one track on each side instead of the usual 5 track EP it came off. The EP sells for about £7-£8 which considering it made #1 isn't bad. The jukebox single can't have anywhere near the distribution (I've only seen 3 in the last 20 years as opposed to dozens of EPs so is rarer AND harder to find) but you'll be lucky to see a fiver for it.

BTW if anyone has the Elvis Costello single on 2-Tone (CHSTT-7, the original number that Too Much Too Young was later released on) or Ricos 'Rico Jama' then i'd be interested. The only 2-Tone releases I'm missing
