April 24, 200619 yr You are obvioulsy thinking of Gerri Diamond from your relpy you Chalky. However, Guy & Keb also used to play another 'wait for the beat' i.e. Patti Livingston - I've got my baby, now that does start with a bit of wailing! And another The Laura Green c/u June Conquest - Almost Persuaded (Fame) Cheap as chips, and sounds great.
April 24, 200619 yr storming instrumental by the kinnets, massive spin for dave thorley, think roger banks has it now
April 24, 200619 yr storming instrumental by the kinnets, massive spin for dave thorley, think roger banks has it now Know the one - Kontets? Twelve bar guitar, crashing horns led thingy Someone posted it on here a while back didnt they? Also Thanks Simon for MP3 Ernest Sparks, not heard in ages. One of the many Dean Anderson tunes as I remember (Guy snatched it off him and banged a cover on it in one movement using slight of hand )
April 24, 200619 yr And another The Laura Green c/u June Conquest - Almost Persuaded (Fame) Cheap as chips, and sounds great. is this the one that keb threw onto the dancefloor cos know one danced to it? monolgue start with keb saying wait for the beat?
April 24, 200619 yr is this the one that keb threw onto the dancefloor cos know one danced to it? Wasn't J J Barnes that Keb played 3 times in a row before saying '' oldies, oldies, I'll give you f***ing oldies'' and throwing out on to a then empty dancefloor. monolgue start with keb saying wait for the beat? Guy alway used to say ''wait for the beat'' especially when playing Gerri Diamond - Only You. However Keb did start saying it, the first time I heard him say it was when introducing Patti Livingston - I've Got My Baby "I believe the expresion is 'wait for the beat' "I'm sure the expressions is 'wait for the beat' Turns to look over at Guy, "Indeed, the gentleman's just comfirmed it" Vocal kicks in on perfect time Priceless! Edited April 24, 200619 yr by Simon T
April 24, 200619 yr is this the one that keb threw onto the dancefloor cos know one danced to it? monolgue start with keb saying wait for the beat? Could be. I can only really remember Guy playing it. Though I dont doubt Keb did play it, I always associate him with the faster stuff. the opening monologue is dreadful, hence the Laura Green Cover up name, but once she starts singing it is oh so soulful. Missed the post with Gracie Dumas. What another special special tune.

April 24, 200619 yr Actually chaps, I played The Invitations "Look On The Good Side" at The Charade in Rotherham as a new release (in 1974) some 10 years prior to Stafford... alongside Brothers Guiding Light "Getting Together", Dramatics "Choosing Upon You" the 'other' Invitations track "They Say The Girls Crazy"... and other such 'newies' of the day. By the time it made Stafford I'd already hammered it (as a moldie oldie) at Clifton Hall (Rotherham). I believe that it was also played at the Mecca when new, or soon after. Great Record. Sean Hampsey

April 24, 200619 yr Claude. Who bist? He was an actor Mikey. I only know this because of that brilliant Ronnie Barker sketch, The Cinema Commissionaire. " I stand ere all Doris Day, Elke Sommers or Shirley Winters, Claude Raines or Ronald Shiners" ...

April 25, 200619 yr Here's a few more Valerie Lamar, Shame, Dee Dee, Ann Sexton C/U Fabulous Moonlighters, For granted, Blue Eagle Porgy & The Monarchs, Congratulations, Un-released Bell Sound Gino Washington, The rat race, Atac test pressing Dave Hi Dave. Valerie, is absolutely one of my fave's all time. I cant believe I missed you playing it at Stoke last year. (Janine kept me talking out by the record bar) Havent thought about the Fabulous Moonlighters for years, but what a great smooth tune. Porgy was one of the other Dursley boys fave's, tho I thought it was a bit too slow. Whereas Gino is as slow as hell, but absolute perfection. One you havent put on there but I always associate with you at Stafford is Gladys Knight - Its too late (as discussed on another thread), and I know this isnt supposed to have any 70s+ on this thread, but Marlena Shaw - I just want this feeling to last, Glenda Mclode - No Stranger to Love AND sitting in your old Viva at Coaley Village Hall listening to Luther Vandross - I'll let you slide Happy days. Mike PS "I can trow up a few more if anyone is interested" Talking of throwing up. The Professionals, The Peanut Duck and the ####kin Aeroplane Song. So it wasnt all perfect. Just 99.9% PPS Has anyone mentioned Lee bates - Why don't you write, and the sublime George Pepp - This feeling is real?? Edited April 25, 200619 yr by in town Mikey
April 25, 200619 yr He was an actor Mikey. I only know this because of that brilliant Ronnie Barker sketch, The Cinema Commissionaire. " I stand ere all Doris Day, Elke Sommers or Shirley Winters, Claude Raines or Ronald Shiners" ... I got that drift Simsy. I just wondered who the poster was.

Steve
April 25, 200619 yr "Patches" Firstly it was a 82 release and we played it as a new release from John Anderson at Soul Bowl. Secondly I never claim to play any record first, to be fair I couldn't care about all that "who played it first" shit. I put it there as it was a big tune at Stafford, it's about the music, and that's the only thing that matters. Sorry nearly lost it then, most un-like me Dave
