  • These are sauce rigs .....little known Wigan practice of drilling for Brown sauce !!!

  • Scal just PM'd me and said he thinks those are from a midweek disco promotion and I agree with him.  Not a proper nighter.  Full of divs, girlies, and no dilated pupils.

  • They are hoists for kids to get into their platform soled shoes, a throwback to the fads and fashions of theat era, those kids in the photo have just been released from them.

Great quality photos, makes it look like yesterday!  A change from all the little scrapbook snaps.

I had forgotten some of those people in the pictures, it's only when you see them you remember!

I would say, definitely a weeknight do.

Paul

Weeknight do's were difficult....take yer bird on the 640 on a Thursday and sit on the balcony whilst The Nutty Boys did their stuff underneath..am I dating myself there?? ;)..I always oddly on the midweek do's used to sit above where I used to sit at all nighters...three pints and a fumble and I tried to get out and to the bus station home before I got the Wigan Lad....'You're near the gas Marrer' line.

One thing I will say is that I'm pleased I did used to go to Wigan in real life....as it was a very different place when it weren't a Nighter...I saw, smelt and felt it in a very different way at that time...I saw it in real time.

By the wY in case you're wondering I am still in the pub...I have had no tea...and this fifth pint is kicking in haha.

Speak to you in the morning, before I become Barold Of Old ;) x

These pics have been available for years.I used one or two of them for  flyers in 2002.

They look like some swings to me?

On the pictures, I'm not a fan of 70s northern soul attire at the best of time, but dear lord the kids in the earlier pictures cant be hard core northern soul followers can they?!?  :elvis:

I'm afraid we all dressed like that in 75, I was only 14 though

Genuine question - what are those wooden (?) structures in the background?

It must be obvious but I'm not getting it . . . . . . . . .

These lads are the Casino Crusaders, taking a well earned break from manning the trebuchets, as they lay siege to the nearby hamlet of Warrington.

At the command "Unleash Hell", a load of Pye Disco Demand 7" singles rain down on the unsuspecting townsfolk.

Remember taking the kids to Warwick Castle years ago and they had a working trebuchet in the grounds which they actually fired.  Very impressive.
