:hatsoff2:  HI ALL....YES IT'S ME BACK (for how long) feeling much better, so thanks for all the nice comments sent, also thanks for staying with the RECORD CLUB thread WELL DONE,

As I am very late with picking a new theme, I thought it was time for us to pick the TOP Favourites of each member, ideally pick a 45 from your collection, that you feel that it is a must have record to own, not easy! as I'm aware that there are similar threads all over the WEB, that your choice will also include info that will help younger soul brothers & sisters will enjoy your pick,.

WHY WE NEED TO DO THS?  On Friday we had a Gas man at a guess he was in his mid 20s, call at our house, he could not contain himself after noticing my record room, he asked me many questions about the rare soul scene, as he had started going to local events & was going to the Blackpool weekender,

Never to miss a opportunity to play records, I put on a few classics for him, what surprised me was he did not know some & the ones he did he was unaware of the artist or title, in-fact he needed some education, (this is something that is missing from other threads, with a couple of exception, John Manships gives a great potted write up on all of his items that I really enjoy.)

A list of must haves as opposed to the top 500 records that Kev Roberts put together will differ by the fact it is record club members pick, not 1 persons view, although Kevs book is excellent, this will be if we can be a collectors guide & benefits the up & coming DJs of to-morrow,

I have put a few pictures of what I call classics, but for some off the younger people they are newies,

To kick of the thread I have picked a big sound from 1972 that would be classed as a TORCH MECCA classic,

SMASH RECORDS #S2111 - the AMBERS - "Potion of LOVE" b/w "Another LOVE".

Well Christmas came early last night as I got one of these cheap-ish,been after one for ages but the ones I've seen have always been a bit pricey.Although I love both sides it's "I'm Gonna Cut You Loose" that really rocks my boat & doesn't seem that well known, what a dancer?

George Wydell-From Out Of Nowhere/I'm Gonna Cut You Loose TRC

(both tracks on the same You Tube vid)

I love Daves Record Club threads, and glad to see you are feeling better.

Mine would be Candi Statons wonderful "Too Hurt To Cry". A Muscle Shoals classic, not the dearest record I own, but the one that gets me every single time. I fall in love with her over and over again every time I hear it, and that to me is what great soul music is about.

Really tough call, in fact nearly impossible to choose one, this is getting hammered in my room at the moment, mid-tempo shuffler that should be massive IMHO

I remember posting this on Baz A's Crossover thread way back in 2008 and stuck it on one of the Crossover CD swaps. It caused a bit of a stir back then. I still think it's STUNNING and like you gets a real hammering in my wee room.

Not posted in a wee while but still managing to keep a check on the absolutely wonderful and varied selection of tunes being posted on the 'Record Club' threads.

In my mind there are soooo many records that are essential, I don't really know where to start but this seems like a good one to kick off my choices.

Bought in a second hand record store in Paris for 8 euros.

Go on then if I must I'll post another.Girlie dancer time...............

Candy & The Kisses-Keep On Searching Scepter

Both George Wydell releases on Tangerine are well worth acquiring - nice shout Martyn.

Now if you don't know this record - get ready you're in for one helluva bumpy ride.

Sit down, fasten your safety belt and hold tight. Real tight.

Rough, rugged and raw.

With a voice that can cut wood Lee simply tears into the song.

Pure soul, real soul - call it what you want.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you Lee Moses with 'Bad Girl' on Musicor.

Listen with your eyes shut for maximum effect.

Like most things 10 years ago you could pick up a copy for a tenner (even then it was quite hard though), these days it seems to be going up £50 a month.

Regular checks on Ebay and Popsike constantly amaze me. It can't get any higher can it? The demand for copies is pretty intense to say the least.

Can it get any better than this?
