November 14, 200618 yr Great pick. As we all know the artist was covered up as Johnny Caswell, but who first played this great record and how the hell was it was discovered? And, it was massive and a shock to many when it was revealed it was Paul Anka, but it didn't damage its popularity at the time.

And, it was massive and a shock to many when it was revealed it was Paul Anka, but it didn't damage its popularity at the time. There was a topic the other week about it's discopvery I think it went that Simon Soussan was at the warehouse of one of his suppliers, and the supplier basically knew the sounds to find, and slipped this on. Apparently SS went apeshit and couldn't believe the artist. Great record IMHO. Paul
November 14, 200618 yr xx I Cant Help Lovin You - Paul Anka - 6768 refosoul This guy looks much like Paul Anka, sounds a little like him . . . but a little bit more modern. When it's possible to put up the track, I'll add it to this post. Oh, by the way the guy in question is Terry Ronald, and the track "What the child needs" is from 1991. November 14, 200618 yr Hey Miff... how have you managed to do that...? Everytime i try.. it keeps saying the uploading feature has been switched off that was one I posted a couple of weeks ago, I serched for it using the site serch facility, and cut and pasted as described on the page that comes up when you click your chossen tune. Might be a good time to put my moderator hat on and highlight this feature, as it saves duplicating sounds in the sound gallery and thus saves space. Just try to upload and the feature is still switched off

November 14, 200618 yr Got To Have More Love - the sweet - smash 11465 refosoul Shame the Sounds system went down, i was really looking forward to this one. Rachel, can't we postpone 'Snoozeover Thursday' & re run this one ?. Here's one of my favourites anyway, always thought it was 10 times better than 'Broken Heart Attack', & as for 'Ballroom Blitz' it blows it out of the water Edited November 14, 200618 yr by Bogue
November 14, 200618 yr I Don't Wanna' Discuss It - amen corner - decca 11467 refosoul Andy Fairweather Low's Amen Corner with a rousing version of Little Richards classic tune & a live rendition of 'Amen' chant on the end. Really would have loved to see these perform, heard they were fantastic live in the 60's clubs. An intresting cover of 'Our Love Is In The Pocket' on the album too. Little bit about them here. https://www.45-rpm.org.uk/dira/amenc.htm Edited November 14, 200618 yr by Bogue
November 15, 200618 yr What the child needs - terry ronald - mca 18310 c.d. 11473 refosoul Couldn't get this on yesterday before going to work! Not a tune for the 'northern' rooms, probably more suit the 'modern' though.
November 15, 200618 yr No idea how to post a tune, and not going to post yet again about my fave record. One 'blue-eyed' tune I love is Anthony & the Aqualads - I remember. Also been looking on the girl group site I posted a link to to see if the Toys were a white group. Something tells me they were. I've got my heart set on you, is raging Northern Soul at its very best IMO. Edit. Nope. just found a photo of them Scratch that from blue eyed Soul. Still a raging good rage tho. November 15, 200618 yr You Can't Come Home Again - p j proby - liberty 11568 refosoul Couldn't let this thread go without putting a couple up from old 'Split Pants'. He did a couple of fine albums of B E S. This old favourite is off the Phenomenon album. I can remember hearing it for the first time on Dave Caine's tape recorder en route to the Casino. Strange how little things stay in your mind, i rember because for some stupid reason, i thought it was 'Niki Hoki' & went & bought that on the night thinking it was this one . Edited November 15, 200618 yr by Bogue
November 15, 200618 yr People That's Why - p j proby - liberty 11569 refosoul This one is off the Enigma album.A slower beat ballad version of the 'Idle Few' song. I think it works & would make a nice ender.
