Claes Rosen has a habit of altering the pitch and tone of voices , but not 100% sure ... 

Got lots of play and covered many times , great tune. Check out Luther’s version 

Doesn't sound like Marvin to me.

Apart from the fact it doesn't sound like him to me, the vocals are really bland and I don't remember him ever recording anything as wishy washy as this.

Sounds a bit like a Godley & Creme arrangement to me, not my cup of tea at all.

Spot on - it could easily be Kevin Godley.

I don't dislike it (although I don't think I could hear it more than once or twice a year before losing my patience), but I fail to see how putting Marvin's voice through some kind of wringer in order to produce this would somehow be better than simply recording it with a fresh live vocal. A grave disservice to Marvin, and to any half-decent singer who's been done out of a chance to record. Makes me wanna cry.

It's pretty shocking. Why would they do that?

(a) to attract attention (more so than with Jim Bloggs, Sam Smith or Kevin Godley, for example)

(b) to get the kudos that goes with doing something "clever" with Marvin (or any similarly iconic artist)

As a recording I can take it or leave it. To associate it with Marvin's name is downright vandalism. Whether it's actually Marvin or not.

Don't think Marvin would give a shit personally,. But the house I danced to 25 years ago had far more bollix than this insipid, smooth fm,  fodder. Its not offensive, just bland, it's really in that, 'crazy world' groove, but it really lacks bite imho.

I once had a brief conversation in the 1990's in a West London boozer with Pete Watermelon and a bloke who was Kylie Minogue's manager about the correct placement of bass and percussion triplets in dance music in order to make the rhythm track groove properly.

Well it’s not heading anywhere near my house music top 10 but i’m Sure I’ve danced to far worse at times.

 

and plenty far better as well.

 

there are loads from that era that really haven’t stood the rest of time.

I don't know if you meant Pete or Kylie's manager but I've a lot of time for Pete personally. Knows his stuff and how to use it. I'd like to have seen him do more on the soul front but there was clearly money to be made - important if you've got an expensive train hobby.

Yeah sorry I meant Pete Waterman.

I was introduced to Pete and the manager of Kylie (whos name escapes me) by a mutual friend who worked on the Top Of The Pops telly program around the time when the Stock,Aitken & Waterman records were selling massively.

It was only a brief chat as I mentioned cause they were all on the way to some Italian restaurant in Soho..I did get invited along but I was on my way to meet a girl and couldn't cancel unfortunately.

It would have been cool to have chatted some more with him about music production as he came across as a pretty decent down to earth bloke in the admittedly short time I spent in his company.

To be honest I couldn't give a hoot if this is Marvin together with some odd AI tinkering, After all you can go on YouTube find the uploader Mastermind sounds and listen to a shed full of stuff with in the sweet ballad and group genre, all loosely based on similar existing backing tracks, with both ficticous and known artists.There is even a mash up of the Carol Dionne rarity ' I need you', scary times indeed and as someone mentioned before ' I'm glad I lived when I did'. Personally If I want to listen to ' If this would were mine ' then the first port of call would be the Sweet James Epps version.

I made the first version back in 2013. No AI involved. It’s Marvin’s voice, just pitched down a couple of semitones to fit the music.

Well if you're happy with it that's fine, AI or not, however if you listen to the Coffee version featuring Leon Bryant I would say it's all about delivery and passion of which that has in abundance, you can pitch Marvins voice however you want and I'm afraid it won't be for me.

...ahh ok thanks , but did you do the track first without any real concern / worry about the sample and then resolve as it started to get plays?/ took off or did the label cover those bases from the start... ( just interested, no axe to grind here thanks)...

Yes, but as it contained samples I couldn’t officially release it. Later I found the YouTube video with lots of plays, and in 2020 I started investing how to make an official release. I showed the video and used the streaming numbers and thousands of comments in my pitch to the label

New to me - just had a listen on Youtube and I think it's excellent

Kind of odd with MG's voice pitched down slightly - couldn't it have been quantised (or whatever the word is) at the correct pitch to fit that backing? Presumably not

The other thing I never understand is how can it be available on Spotify for example as Claes Rosen 'If this world were mine' with no credit at all to MG? Happens all the time with samples, why don't they have to credit the artists?

Anyway really enjoyed it, lovely late night tune - similar in feel to the Paris Green / MG 'Oh Yes' that got a lot of spins 4-5 years ago
