To soul music lovers everywhere I have the sad news that Dennis Brennan of the Philips group the Intentions and of Dennis T Brennan (web45s) passed away yesterday Wednesday 9th March 2022.

His daughter (Sarah) has just messaged me to tell me the unfortunate news and I am in shock myself still after Henry Atkinson told me he was ill only a couple of days ago.

Dennis, his brother & mates sang one of the best blue-eyed soul records ever in Jesse James' "don't forget that i live you" circa 1967.

He later started his own business selling mostly soul 45s, embracing the then new internet.

I was lucky to work with Dennis in the mid90s - mid00s designing and upkeeping his website. I even got to meet the guy in 2002 on my massive USA trip at his house on the outskirts of Harrisburg PA.

All I can say he was the perfect host and a decent man. I will miss him terribly.

My thanks to Sarah for replying at such a awful time and Henry Atkinson for telling me of Dennis' health issues.

I hope Dennis is somewhere with his peers and back singing sweet soul music.

Sarah, has told me the eBay web store will remain open for business and that reasonable offers on items will be accepted. Please follow the link:

I love when you guys pop in here and comment. It makes me feel like I'm still connected to my dad and his world. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

  • Sad news, was great to deal with and had a terrific sense of humour which he used to great effect on me when I was bidding on a copy of Choice Of Color on one of his auctions back in the mid 90s

Very sad to hear this news. I got my copy of "Don't forget that I love you" from Dennis through eBay maybe 10 years ago. You can imagine my surprise when he told me he was a member of the group and was on that sublime recording.

RIP Dennis Brennan.

Sad news, was great to deal with and had a terrific sense of humour which he used to great effect on me when I was bidding on a copy of Choice Of Color on one of his auctions back in the mid 90s

Auctions weren't as advanced back then and I had to ring to see if I had  won and he said I was unlucky this time and that some other guy has won it. He then said, I think he's also English, do you want his name, he may sell you it.

I said I didn't think he should be disclosing another persons name/details and he laughed and said no its fine, you know him well, his name is Steve Carter.... Gotcha!

RIP

Good one Steve

Really bummed out to hear this.

I've known Dennis for years from Ebay as well as various record shows in the Philly to Lancaster area.

Always had a smile on his face, good sense of humor, and willing to share recommendations and information.

RIP Dennis.

very very sad ,a total gentlemen ,whom i had the pleasure of buying from over the past 30 years.

Have only just seen, so very sorry to hear this. He was, as others have already said, a real gentleman and a lovely guy to deal with. Exchanged a number of emails with him talking records and of course his time with the Intentions. RIP Dennis

Dennis was a lovely man. Sold me many records over the years, including a gift, The Magnificent Men on Capitol 'Happy'.  Much respect and thanks to a true giant of a figure in the history of soul music 🙏 💙

just got this  great track rip dennis

I met Dennis in the mid to late 80s - he picked me and my mate up from the Greyhound and drove us back to his place (I think he had a little Cadillac, and was sputting chewing tobacco into a cup, which we found amusing, but I may be confusing him with someone else there).

What I do know is that I bought a load of stuff off him, but the thing I remember most was that he had various records I wanted and wouldn't sell them, even at double his asking price, because he'd reserved them for someone else.

It's so long ago I've forgotten what they were - I know Howard Guyton was one - but a deal was a deal and he stuck me it, which told me something about the guy.

From there we went to see Val Shively, which was another interesting experience.

Lol I don't think my dad ever chewed tobacco that I know of. He smoked in the 70s and quit not long after but I guess ya never know. Thanks for sharing some memories!
