Siberians went for a stupid sum - a mediocre sound that really should cost less than £100, not a figure just below what the Flirtations sold for. 

I am sure the Cause You're Mine was the 1972 Demand reissue (Stereo) 

I believe you're right- I remember seeing STEREO on the label.

Don't compare them two please. You not liking the Si-Berians is one thing, many really DO. Me being for one. Have them two. I couldn't live without my Flirtations 45 FWIW. Yet the Si-Berians is best for it's flip side 'this is the ending of our love' IMO. Crave, sigh and drool...

Now begging the ? to others who've seen the auction was it the big RICARDO logo font press or the smaller font one ? Bob Abrahamian wasn't clueless on what difference was hiding in the groove between them two presses... Thank you Bob for pointing it out ! RIP

Is was described as the 72 stereo press on the auction listing.  I was surprised it was considered worthy of auctioning.

Thanks for your perspective. I’ve had the Siberians for over 25 years. I found a load in Cincinnati but only took two as it was nothing special. Nobody was interested in the record when it was in my sales box.  A few years ago, I offered the spare copy to anybody who’d missed one on eBay - I think it sold for about £100. The recent deluge of Siberians links back to Cincinnati, quite possibly the stock I left behind.

The Flirtations is an absolute classic, and has been for over 40 years. The Siberians will never achieve such status but may please a few collectors.

Agreed, the loss of Bob A was a very sad one.

A classic case when it comes to "unknown' tunes, no ? I've always loved my finds through my 'crate diggins' expeditions no matter them being "northern" sounds or other soul genres. And while selling and/or trading I've always pushed like you describe "worthy" sounds yet not in the realm of 'Joe Public"'s target.

But never helding a grudge to those who had to await the 'big ticket' status to come back to me once the frenzy took off asking me 'do you still have it for sale'... To tell them NOPE - it's gone now ! Records collectors maybe. Music lovers or adventurers ? Me yes. Anyway which press of the Si-berians you had back then ?

The 'this is the ending' deep soul side is the one where the mix on the bigger font press matters most. The smaller font pressing has the lead singer mix in the whole music "mixture" where on the bigger font pressing the lead stands out upront. For a much greater dramatic and deeper effect.

 

To the surprise of most who still stick (wrongfully IMO) to the 'crying' side for some reason while ignoring the gem on the flip until once played out. A feeling of 'déjà vu' ? Mmh... Will it go even bigger once that side is played/called out ? Mind you to dance very slow or tight to. Not a "northern" record by a mile.

A flawless archive copy!

Even though King Size Taylor was the dominant "Merseybeat" vocal when he was with Tony Sheridan And The Beat Brothers, he surprisingly only had two solo singles.

This is King Size's 2nd UK R&B 45, 3 years after that juggernaut version of Ted Taylor's " Somebody's Always Tryin'" this 1967 Polydor rarity also frames Edward Taylor's beautifully rasping, scouse vocal. On this 45 he delivers not one but two great "made in Britain" Mod dancers.

Garnett Mimms was gathering an enthusiastic Brirtish fanbase, his pre-summer tour of the UK was in the pipeline. Polydor "R&B" orientated producer Fred Lloyd (Longboatmen, Linda Kendrick, The Carrols etc) presented Kingsize Taylor with the Garnet album track "Thinkin'". A Jerry Ragovoy and Chip Taylor New York composition for Kingsize to mold with his impressive vocal. It works so well, a great soul recording right on the money, aimed at influencing the MOD soul-wave that was sweeping the country, unfortunately like so many Polydor 45s on the mid-60's it got "lost" through lack of promotion and failed miserably.

Which was a waste of a great UK session, especially when the flipside was another fabulous Chip Taylor creation "Let Me Love You " with the Nicky Welsh orchestra summoning up honkin' horns, coated with exceptionally shrill girl-group choruses and swirling banks of strings. On this side King Size's sandpaper lined throat, sounded even more effective than usual.

Two great sides by a British artist that never broke through with his two killer singles but found a cult following through the 60's Mod club scene.

This March1967 45, in our experience even rarer than his so sought after, Decca release.

RARE and UK only.

Archive condition, library date 14/3/67 on the a-side 3 prong centre, Flawless vinyl, still housed in birth-sleeve.

Anyway, reason for asking I was quite surprised to see this auctioned as a Soul or R&B record. Both sides are plain pop IMO.

Marcia Hines "You Gotta Let Go" has gone up, last I saw one for was £250... or there about... Maybe of interest to you lot, but a Clara Ward - The Right Direction on Aussie Red Verve was sold on Discogs recently, at set price £250, I've see loads of Marcia Hines over the years, thats the second Aussie Clara Ward I've seen for sale in 20 years of collecting Aussie releases. 

Overall though, I think prices are holding, what do folks think?  those numbers although make me shudder to 3/4 years ago, for 2022 I dont see these particular 45 are rising as fast as they have, think money is hitting folks buying habbits, I think we will see a flatlining of prices in the next year or so, excepting the mega rare items of course, they will just keep going up, up and away 🙂
